Schaake's covers you for all of the above, just outside of Lawrence. Some other area pumpkin patches and farms offer pumpkin "picking" by simply setting up a ton of pumpkins for you to pick from a pile which is essentially the same as a grocery store. Schaake's is great because you can actually traipse through the fields, step over the vines and pluck your own pumpkins straight from the farm. In non-Covid times, they have a tractor ride to take you out and it'll pick you up so you don't have to haul them back. Covid times, they've added wheelbarrows up front so you can haul them easily. There are other little fun things here like a pumpkin slingshot, a chicken coop, concessions with cider & kettle corn, hay bale maze, cows, and an old school playground area. If you like the peaceful openness of rural Kansas, this farm will certainly deliver on that, even though it's very close to Lawrence. If it's one of those perfect weekends in October, know that it's going to be very busy, but it's always fun no matter how packed it gets. It's worth the trip over from KC as well as we haven't found a better pumpkin patch anywhere around.

We have enjoyed their produce at the the farmers market, so getting to the source is next-level. If you're there for strawberries, then just know that the patch is wayyyyyy in the back. You can hitch a ride on one of the tractor-pulled carts or hoof it yourself, just through the play areas and up the gentle slope. Berries are poppin' in May, so getcha a box and get to hunting! Hot tip: the best berries seem to be in the middle. A flat box runs you $0.75 and the berry price is a bit over $5/lb. If you just can't stop picking, then you'll fill a flat quickly and you're rewarded with maybe $40 worth of strawberry goodness. These berries are so worth it! Clean, sweet, and just ripe for the picking! Gieringers does other berries (blackberries, blueberries, etc.) but those are best picked well into the summer. The service is awesome, whether it's help with parking or a lift to & from the berry patch, the staff is always helpful and easy to find. Great enterprise and great fun!

The only problem, there was no emphasis on the Unicorn and Dinosaur event being WEEKENDS ONLY! I reviewed the website (inadvertently) going between the Pumpkin Patch site and the vineyard site until my eyes darn near crossed to ensure it would be a good ideal for my autistic niece. I saw the dates and hours, nothing that said "WEEKENDS ONLY." Imagine the hurt my niece felt after driving 45 minutes to a closed park, thinking I picked a low traffic day. I can't take her on a different day because she was visiting from California. I paid $64 online for tickets. The website didn't have a phone number listed to call for help. I could only email and it's going on 48 hours. I'm hoping they are going to respond soon. I've been to the venue in the past for the adult Easter egg hunt and was looking forward to a fun afternoon. I very much encourage you guys to revamp your website so it's more user-friendly, intuitive and gives information in a way that can be easily reviewed. Had I saw "WEEKENDS ONLY" listed I wouldn't have booked it OR if the ticket sales specified a date to purchase tickets for, limiting options for only days that are available, I wouldn't have purchased. I came here on a hot summer day to enjoy the rows upon rows of bright yellow sunflowers amongst a beautiful blue sky. The fields may be small, but they are big enough for there to be plenty of flowers and to look yellow from overhead. I had a very relaxing time walking through the sunflower field, taking pictures, and enjoying nature. The farm is free to visit. Strawberries are sold by the pound, and sunflowers are a suggested donation of $1 per cut flower. There were also fresh-off-the-vine watermelons and cantaloupes for sale at $5 each when I visited. Photography is welcomed though a donation is strongly encouraged for each shoot. Overall, Berry Hill Upick Farm is a lovely little farm in Topeka, Kansas.

Jay the owner is a great guy and really cares about the bride and groom and all of the guest having an amazing experience. For ceremonies, they have this hollow that does an wonderful job of keeping the wind out and it sounds spectacular if you have a band setup to play music like at my friend's wedding. The barn has a great atmosphere and it's perfect for a country or fall themed wedding. I've been here both in the spring and the fall, and you gotta get married here in the fall, the surrounding country side is stunning that time of year. It's gorgeous in the spring too, I just love the autumn colors more.

If you're looking for really unique pumpkins or just to have a fun picking experience, I'd hands down say this place! They also offer tractor rides to and from the back of the fields and wheelbarrows which is super nice !
