The front desk staff and the hygienists are lovely. But Dr Kerber should not be working with children. I suspect she works with children because adults would never put up with her rude abrupt forceful demeanor. But somehow parents accept this behavior towards their children?! I know multiple parents that have experienced what i would call ABUSE from dr kerber. She asks parents to hold their children down, she doesn't explain anything that's about to happen she just forcefully does her work without even a pause for a crying child begging for her to stop. Can you imagine as an adult having an experience like that? And i am talking about 3 year olds going to their FIRST dental visit, a general wellness visit! I can't believe this woman is still in business. It just shows how little respect society has for children as actual people. If you want to groom your child to be assaulted, definitely take them here and tell then "it's ok" for the dentist to treat them this way. If you want your child to understand what informed consent looks like, and enjoy going to the dentist, then go someplace else. Forest ortho and pediatric dentistry in lake forest is our choice. They do not return call or answer the phone. Appointments are only during morning (school hours) because the "children are more behaved". Also, the lady at the front desk is always so miserable and rude. Not a pleasant place for adults let alone children. read more

Two horrible experiences in a row at Kerber smiles. This is the second time my daughter has had to go in to get a tooth fixed and they mutilated her lip, this time it was even worse then last time. Her mouth was bleeding for 3+ hours after they gave her back to me. The next day, her whole left side of her face was swollen and uncomfortable. Someone needed to give me answers so I went in the following day to discuss the matter with Dr. Kerber. She was very dismissive and aggressive, both physically and verbally. Without asking or warning us she grabbed my child's arm and started trying to us my daughters hand to hold her lip down while Dr. Kerbers other hand was firmly trying to hold my daughters head still. She then proceeded to tell me that she has been in dentistry for over 20 years and my daughters wound was clearly due to her biting her lip, which it was not. The wound extends further down into her gums and cheek. I have had a similar wound before and it was due to misplaced dental devices and carelessness. This is unacceptable. How on earth can a place like this claim to specialize in children when this is how they treat their patients and families. Completely disgusted and will never allow my children to step foot in their office again. Save your children from the pain and avoid any ptsd- do not bring your children here. read more

It is nice to see I am not the first poor review for Kerber. I took my children in for regular cleanings 6/19/19. While my oldest was still in back, someone from the office in a dark shirt and neutral color pants sat down on a waiting area couch next to me with paperwork and a pen, telling me that my oldest needed sealants, but not to worry because "the insurance covers everything". The paperwork she held and I signed had a zero balance due. I signed the zero balance due paperwork. Fast forward to October 2019, I received a voice message from Kerber's office saying I had a $89 balance overdue. I called back to say it must have been a mistake because someone sat down with me and told me the day of service that everything was covered by insurance and, I had never been mailed or called about a bill in the 4 months since our appointment. The mood of the conversation took a sharp turn as the Kerber staff member replied in a nasty tone: "No one would have ever told you that." I tried to explain in detail what happened that day, but I was cut off repeatedly. I said good bye and cancelled all scheduled routine exams we had booked. What actually occurred is that Kerber never looked up my son's age, they just assumed he was under 12 years old by his appearance. I found this out later when I called my benefits provider. Sealants are covered only through 12 years old. A reputable business would have looked into this. Kerber must have discovered their mistake after insurance processed, and rather than call me and explain, they made a rude phone call about a non-existent bill based on their mistake. While the office is clean, and the staff and the dentist have been nice overall, I am leaving because they are super expensive. I have insurance and yet I have to pay out of pocket for cleanings. This last visit was the straw that broke the camel's back. It is $177 for a check-up/cleaning - I still had to pay 22 out of pocket and cleanings are supposed to be included - insurance says this is because this dentist charges over usual and customary and is more expensive than the other dentists in the area. FYI - this is more than either my dentist or my husband's dentist charge and we use a dentist close to our jobs - we both work in rich-people-ville, so these prices seem especially unjust to me. I was told my daughter needed a sealant on one tooth and a filling on another back tooth. I went online to compare prices for a cavity filling (1; back tooth) - average costs are $125 - $185. Kerber charges - $195. Sealant averages are $35 to $60. Kerber charges $60. Also, if you need anything done like sealants or cavity fillings, you have to pay 1/2 up front just to schedule it. I have a flex card, so I guess it's not a big deal, but I found this annoying when I tried to schedule an appointment over the phone. read more

I will give this company 5 stars for how they are with kids, my 2 year old loves going to the dentist because of them. They are great with the kids and get them to sit down and get their teeth cleaned in a fun and exciting environment. My daughter can't wait to return to the dentist because if them. The 3 star is for the billing service, they don't verify what is covered under your insurance policy. If your child needs any kind of procedure done they make you pay for it up front, doesn't send pre treatment estimate to the insurance company, when almost every other children's dentist does, and they send the bill to the insurance company and a lot of the time it's not a covered service and you don't get your refund back. I am not sure what kind if provider doesn't help their patients out by verifying benefits and what is covered under the policy. I understand it is the patients responsibility to figure out what is covered and what is not covered, but it is courtesy that provider do this on the patients behalf to reduce unnecessary out if pocket costs. From now on I will only use Dr. Kerber for standard cleaning services but if any thing needs to be done beyond that I will take my children else where, that will actually submit a pre treatment estimate to the insurance company and I won't have to pay thousands of dollars out if my pocket up front and hope they documented well enough to get it covered by the insurance company. read more

My daughter is very shy and reserved. We took her to Kerber Smiles for a filling to try and make her dentist experience better that what I had as a child. Kerber Smiles exceeded all expectations, the was amazing they made my daughter feel relaxed and very comfortable. Highly recommend Kerber to any parents!!! read more

Can I give zero stars? This place is horrible! I had went to see Dr Kerber for my 6 month old daughters Lip tie and to check if she had a possible tongue tie. We saw the dr and everything went ok she was a little fast with us didn't say goodbye, she just got up and walked out. She informed me of my daughters lip tie, but said she had no tongue tie. We set the appointment up with the nurse and I asked how the whole procedure was done and mentioned myself or my husband would like to be present, I was extremely nervous for baby as any parent would be if their 6 month old would be getting a procedure done via laser. Her nurse said we couldn't be in the room but we could watch from behind the glass. I didn't really want to watch from behind a window but I agreed anyway. Right before we were leaving her nurse came and grabbed me and said Dr Kerber wanted to see me really fast. So I went to her office and 15 minutes latter Dr Kerber came in and shut the door and said "My nurse said you had questions" and I said oh no we got everything taken care of and the appointment is made. Then she said well the nurse said you wanted to be in the room with your daughter and THATS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! In such a mean and rude tone of voice. I said ok well your nurse said we could watch from the glass and that's ok with us and she said in a angry rude tone "ABSOLUTELY NOT! NO, NOPE, NO WAY THERES JUST NO WAY YOUR GOING BACK THERE NO NOPE SORRY NOT HAPPENING" And I said well this appointment isn't happening and got up and walked out. She was stuttering while yelling at me and SO offended I wanted to be there for my baby. I don't know who just hands over there 6 month old to strangers while they take them in the back room to have a laser procedure done without being present. Maybe that's ok with some parents but with me it's not. What is she trying to hide that she would be so freaked out about us being present with our child? And what kind of person talks to her patients like that. We ended up seeing a wonderful dr who informed us that our daughter in fact DID have a tongue tie unlike what Dr Kerber said. We got the procedure done for our daughter at a different location and both myself and husband got to be in the room, I even got to hold her while it was being done and I honestly couldn't have imagined not being with my baby as this procedure was being preformed. Stay away from Dr Kerber, who knows what she does to your children back there. read more

Dr. Kerber is amazingly gentle, and patient. My son has severe special needs, and she took her time with him, and treated him better than any dentist we have been to. She came up with long-term goals, and solutions for problems my son was having. read more
