When we first found this cafe, the food was excellent, the coffee was amazing and the service was perfect. Now, everytime we go back, it seems the standards have gone lower and the prices have gone higher. The food has started to take on that bland taste that definitely isn't worth the price that has been put to it. I normally have the EBLT on Turkish Pide, but now it seems as though it's something very bland that I could honestly cook better at home with a few extra seasonings added to it. The scrambled eggs on sourdough have gotten a bit more watery as well. I'm not sure if they've just gotten a new chef or the ingredients have changed to make what is being made cheaper to produce but it's not very impressive. The one thing that I definitely think is worth the money, although I did notice that the recipe has changed, is their muffins. The Blueberry Yogurt Muffin is delicious. Their lunch menu is quite good as well. The service is hit and miss. Some days they have too much staff on and you are waited on quite quickly and sometimes even asked twice for your order (which you think they would have someone just ordering for certain sections but it doesn't seem so). Then again, some days, you tend to wait for a while and it does end up that you get a bit antsy because you can see the staff chatting away but not doing much to assist. It's really a shame as well because the head people there seem quite nice and they do tend to greet, recognise you, and remember your orders.

Speaking of ambience, Café Sapore is bang in the middle of the shopping centre so the only…read moreatmosphere that you get is of busy shoppers and of course, a lot of window shopping from your seat. The café is pretty much full throughout the day but you are likely to find a place soon enough with the constant streaming in and out of people. Both the times, we were promptly approached by the staff and seated comfortably. The menu was bought over immediately which included both the meals and drinks. Look out for the specials board as it changes every day. There is also an in house bartender but he is only available at certain times of the day so check with the staff and then order the cocktails. But otherwise the drinks menu covers all the basics. There is a kids menu too with the standard fare but I am always happy to see one as it means spending less money and also lesser portions. There is a also a selection of sandwiches, pastries, cookies and baked good at the counter for light bites. Now since we went twice, I am going to break down the review as Day 1 and Day 2. Day 1: For drinks, it was the Peroni for my hubby and the Pinot Grigio La Maschera (Limestone Coast, SA) for myself. A refreshing white, not too strong and went well with the seafood dish I ordered. And that seafood dish was the risotto with an assortment of seafood, white wine, garlic, cherry tomatoes, chilli and extra virgin olive oil. I was really happy with the risotto; it had a real good flavour, not gluggy or starchy at all and that hint of chilli totally lifted the dish for me. My husband got the Open style souvlaki with both grilled lamb and chicken served with a Greek salad, lemon, tzatziki and pita bread. It was average; the chicken was cooked well but the lamb fell short of expectations. Good portions but just average. And from the kids menu, we ordered a plate of chicken nuggets and fries. A classic which can't go wrong with children; it was polished off in no time. Day 2: This time, the hubby ordered a chicken parma with fries and garden fresh salad. It was a really good parma, cooked well and lots of flavour from the tomato sauce and cheese. And good portions too. I ordered the special of the day - grilled snapper with a radish, green apple, witlof salad. I loved the salad; fresh, vibrant and zingy which went so beautifully with the fish. The snapper was cooked well but I would have preferred a bit more flavour to the fish. And we finished off the meal with a Nutella cupcake served with chocolate drizzle and fresh cream. Yumm! That's all a nutella cupcake needs. Overall, it was a good experience on both days. I would definitely step back in for a quick meal or coffee while I am there.

With both indoor and outdoor seating, this small restaurant welcomes people of all sorts and has Japanese beer on tap! Wooden chairs and tables with menus on wooden boards, Cafe Carpenter combines Japanese and Korean flavours and does it well! I have found a quiet hideaway near home!

Normally I am a bit skeptical about places with too many choices, but at this place they do not disappoint. If you are looking for a friendly neighborhood restaurant and drinking place (Like an Asian Fushion Cheers?), but maybe are unsure of what you want, but just know that you want good food, then Cafe Carpenter is the place for you. It is not easy to find a place with a classically trained chef from Japan and someone who also actually lived and breathed the Korean street food scene. Food wise, from the LA Ribs, to the Donkatsu, and Takoyaki everything is excellent and authentic. Wide selection of alcoholic drinks, coffee, as well as desserts. The pricing is also very reasonable for comparable quality. While the quality, variety and service were all excellent, the one thing that stood out most for me was the friendliness and warmth of the owners and staff. I highly recommend.

You dream about a place where you can go and sit and enjoy a coffee quietly or have a chat with a friend and your child is entertained. You're in luck! This place is the place to go (there's also a location in South Melbourne) if you're in the situation similar to mine. The quote from the website states,"CheekyChinos is a sanctuary for parents providing fresh, healthy food and exceptional coffee in an environment designed specifically for young families. An Australian first, CheekyChinos offers a supervised play area with equipment designed by a Psychologist to be developmentally beneficial for children up to 5 years." I have to admit, it was a sanctuary for me today. I was able to place my lovely, overactive 2 year old in the supervised play for 30 minutes at the very low price of $10 (seeming low because some days I'd pay $100 just to get a nice quiet cup of coffee) and was also able to enjoy a nice warm latte with a lovely brownie. In all honesty though, the coffee is about average coffee, nothing special, but the thrill of being able to sit quietly and enjoy it makes up for the quality. The brownie however hit the spot and was even better because I didn't have grubby little hands trying to take it from me! One of the stipulations of play for the children is that you are not allowed to leave the cafe. So unfortunately, you cannot just stroll off and go shopping but they do send you an SMS letting you know when your childs playtime is almost up and then when you need to retrieve your child. The staff in the supervised area is amazing and you can tell they definitely enjoy their jobs playing with children all day. I can see many future trips in my future to this place.
