Years ago, this place used to be what was then, my favourite Greek restaurant in Melbourne, called Dips. Now it's replaced with That Greek Tavern, and I thought I'd give it a try and see what it's like there now as a whole new place. The aesthetics are the same for the most part, though freshened up a lot, and nice and clean. It's inviting and the staff greet you warmly and take you to your table promptly.
The menu is fairly extensive for entrees, with the mains a little bit more limited. A lot of meat platters and the usual fare. Prices seem a bit steep, but when you see the food come out, you know you're getting value.
I had the Whitebait for my entree and they were really good. There are heaps, so you could easily share them. I shared the chicken platter for main, and I have never, ever had chicken so succulent before. It was sooooo good, that there was not a shred caught between my teeth anywhere (I had no other use for my straw like I usually do elsewhere, lol). It was so moist and tender and cooked perfectly in a beautiful marinade. The others had lamb and said it was perfect and not in the least fatty. We shared a bowl of chips for the table (four of us) and it was ample.
The service was friendly, and the food came out fast. The music gave the night a nice atmosphere and yes, there's value for money. Would I come back again and recommend it to people? You bet. It'd be good for mid size groups of people or even for parties of two-four. Parking is easy and if you love Greek food, I'm sure you'll love it here too! read more
