Not the greatest of stations ever. The main thing that is wrong with this station is it's location and reaching it by walking from the center of the city. It is not all that easy and I was even walking while looking at the GPS on my phone. I ended up in a parking lot and had to walk up some steps to cross a bridge and then get to the station. I don't mind walking at all, but I would say that this is not easy or convenient to the city. There was however a parking lot, so good if you are driving I suppose.
Once in the station, there was a small coffee shop and small SPAR (grocery store). They also had a good number of ticket machines since I guess it is not possible in Ireland to print your ticket from home. Used the machine without an issue.
Then I walked to the platform where my train was supposed to leave from and I saw you had to get in line to wait for the the gate to be opened to go onto the platform! WTF? The guy checked your ticket before you even were allowed on the platform (they never checked in the train).
I don't know, maybe train travel is different in Ireland than continental Europe. The station was not bad, but not what I was expecting for one of the largest cities in the country. read more
