I had high hopes after learning there was new ownership. The last owner was terrible. Unfortunately, I did not have a great experience. I needed the sole of one of my boots glued back together after coming apart. Pros: It was done when they told me it would be done. They were friendly. The sole was in fact repaired. Cons: there is glue all around the bottom of the boot around the sole (see photos). This is why I am giving only two stars. I looked at it when I picked it up but I didn't have my glasses on and didn't see it until I got home. I'm so very disappointed. Sloppy work. read more

I came with 2 pairs of specially made shoes. The first are homemade converse with the cloth pulling away from the sole. The second pair are woven leather with embedded leather straps on the heals. Both pairs required good Cobbler knowledge with high quality tools and glue. They were repaired with extra support and succeeded my expectations. All the old reviews are not current! I brought my husbands old, torn up boots in. They had a hole in the heel and were in not great condition. I took them in and James (I believe) told me that he needed to order a part for them but that he would get back to me if he found out he couldn't get the part in. I took them in on Friday, day before Thanksgiving, and he called me the following Tuesday telling me they were already ready! I was shocked at how timely the repair was and when I went to get them they were perfect and washed and shined! The price was way lower than I was expecting as well. I even asked him if it was correct. I also had my two young kids in the shop with me for drop off and pick up and he was so friendly with them and didn't get annoyed like a lot of people do with young kids. He gave great customer service as well as great service to these old boots. 10/10 would go again. read more

I had no idea that there was a Shoe repair in downtown Kent and was pleasantly surprised to not only find the Kent Cobbler but very pleased with the service (new management) and very nice owner. Very rude and hostile, unsure if the owner was have a bad day but very rude. Inquired about services and was essentially told through his body language and comments that he was not interested. Looking for a great little in the neighborhood shoe repair. Look no further. This little vintage shop remind you of a old town vibe. Smells like real leather. Aaaahhhaa but it is... its not like that shoe shop that you go into and feel like you went in the bank door and the leather smells like shellac. Baby bubba you found the right place. The genteel man behind the counter not only listens but he makes sure it's done right. Street parking maybe a little tricky but you won't mind parking a few doors down and walking over. This is bad business. The old man is bad attitude, He makes us keep coming back for our shoe repair that has been there since July till September. I complain and he gets nasty. Worst arrogance and doing business with no word of honor, makes you keep coming back for your shoes and tells you come back tomorrow but still not done, no sense of good business and respect for customer. We thought old man we help him, but he is no good at all, like a scam, you consume your time, mileage, gas and no respect for your time and effort No one word. Dropped my wife's boots off to have the heels replaced. The fellow here explained the prices, and I agreed to the listed cost. He also explained to me that the last people to replace the heels on these boots used the wrong type. (They used Dress boot heels, rather than the appropriate ones with more texture to them.) He was pleasant and to the point. Minus one star because the boots weren't ready on the agreed upon date. (Apparently they had a lot of work appear suddenly around the same time and there was a backlog.) All in all a positive experience. Especially because their prices and work are so much better than the other places I've been to for this type of work. read more

People do not love this place on Yelp, or anywhere else for that matter. Bad on me for even trying to use this place. My first effort to patronize this establishment brought me to its front door during published "open" hours, with the door locked and the windows shuttered, and no answer or answering machine reachable by the posted phone number. Visit two yielded a polite man insistent on providing more work than I needed or wanted. After a bit of haggling we landed on an appropriate amount of work and price, paid in cash up front, and a scheduled pick up time a week later. Visit three, arrival as scheduled yielded an insistence the boots were not ready, they had only just been started, "they're a big job". Not. All I wanted was one sole restuck to the boot. A new pick up date and time was established for five days later. Visit four. Here I am, at the set date and time, and the door is locked, the shades drawn, and no answer or machine reachable at the published number. At least I am joined in the cold gloom and rain by another two patrons, one of whom happily assured me, "its a coin toss whether the boots will be ready today, or not". He claimed prior experience. Surely there must be a cobbler somewhere that can restick soles for reasonable prices, in a reasonably reliable and reachable time frame. Unfortunately, it is not here. read more

I would give this place 1 star except the work he (finally) did seems to be good quality. This is the second time I came here - first time was for a simple elastic repair on some sandals over a year ago, which was done fine. I came in on a Monday with my husband's dress shoes that needed the heels replaced. The man said no problem, he'll have them ready the following Monday. I come in the following Monday during posted business hours and there was a handwritten note saying he is closed for a family meeting. Not wanting to make another trip to find out the shop wasn't open, I call the next day during posted business hours, and after several tries with it going to a recording with no opportunity to leave a message, he finally answers and says he is off site in the mornings and that's why he didn't answer the phone (so why do you say you're open???). He says he is "really busy" and hasn't finished the shoes yet. He says they will be ready Thursday afternoon. I told him this was inconvenient as I'm due to go into labor any time and that's why I counted on the shoes being ready when he originally committed (this is a Christmas gift for my husband). I sent my mom to pick the shoes up when he advised (as I was now home with a newborn) and he said they still weren't ready!! He said they would be ready in a few more days as he's been out with asthma. He could have called to let us know this. I gave him my number on day one. He told my mom the shoes would be ready the following Thursday after 2:30pm. Just as I was heading there at that time, I get a phone call from him that he has to close the shop early (something about a class) so I'll need to come the next day. Unbelievable! I show up the next day 10 minutes after the posted opening time and see the closed sign with no one there. Another man is also walking up to the shop with his claim ticket. There is a note taped to the door from a woman who is also very upset as she hasn't been able to pick up her boots. I call the cell number the owner called me from the previous day and ask when he is going to open the shop, as I'm waiting. He says 5-10 minutes. I wait and he shows up and proceeds to bring the note inside and read it for a minute before addressing myself or the other gentleman who are standing right in front of him. I don't normally write scathing reviews but the customer service and level of professionalism here are the worst I've ever encountered. A little proactive communication would have gone a long way. As a side note, the shoe repair cost about $70 for sole replacement and payment was required up front and requested in cash. read more

The senior man attending tells he only receives cash. Also he forces you to pay polishing of your shoes even if you only want one shoe to get glued. He forced me to pay him the polishing even though I said no. He said, with my money in his hand: "Don't worry. I'm charging you the polishing at $5.00 because normal price is $10.00" and gave me back the money change he wanted. This man is abusive regarding the money of the customers. read more

I read all the great reviews and needed two pairs of work shoes fixed up, so I thought I'd give this place a try. Needless to say, my shoes look amazing. One pair just needed the heels capped, but my other pair needed a new sole and the toes to be resown in. Total came to $70, but well worth it. I've got 2 brand new pairs of shoes again. read more

Comes in with a pair of Salvatore Ferragamo to restitch using the original one that came loose. The guys there look at it and make a decision that I should replace the thread with his own thread (cotton one). I told him that NO I just want to use the original one and he kept convince me to used his. Suddenly, his tone changed 180 degree and start having attitude He start raise his voice and saying that I've been doing this for 20 yrs and I have 10 pairs of this Salvatore Ferragamo. I have been holding onto several pairs of boots for years in hopes that one day I'd get the heels repaired. I couldn't bear the thought of throwing away a good pair of leather boots but having never repaired shoes before, I was shocked to hear the quotes from the local shops near my house. I received quotes between 80-100 each, which was close to their original cost, which made me just throw them back in the closet. Since I work in kent, I decided to get a quote from Kent Shoe Repair, a little shop downtown that I've walked past for years. No frills, maybe a couple of shoe laces on a table that were for sale, no storefront, one employee, with repair studio in back. Maybe it's the no frills, low overhead, straight to the point business model that makes his prices affordable but I was literally quoted 1/4 of the prices the other shops gave me. And the turnaround time for one pair was 3 days! I gave him one pair to try but I has another 2 pairs that I was gonna drop off if I liked how my combat boots turned out. Well, needless to say, I dropped off the other 2 pairs, which both had high dancing heels to repair and 1 of those pairs also needed to have several embellishments fixed. I was expecting a higher price for them, considering the increased complicity but it wasn't nearly as much as I expected. I will update the review to include the service I receive when I pick them up next week but so far I'm really happy! I saw that he had about 10 pairs waiting for pickup so it seems as if there's a definite clientele. I can't wait to go through the rest of my shoes at home and see what else I can get fixed! I've had a very expensive pair of Bruno Magli suede boots repaired here. The heels were replaced perfectly and inexpensively. More recently I've had a Marc Jacobs purse fixed here and again I was impressed. I regret I don't know the man's (owner's) name but he is very nice, hardworking and fair. For the people who complained about him closing shop early on a Friday- that's understandable. Who hasn't left work early? I called him an hour before his scheduled closing time and he told me he was closing early but would stay there until I came to pick up my bag. He waited 20 minutes for me. He's reasonable and helpful. Highly recommend! read more

Not ready on the day promised, asked if I could return in 20 minutes, he had them 5 days already, just to glue some felt back that was coming loose around the heel. Two days later go back and the store is closed before 5 o'clock. Next day return still closed with note saying he is sick, I'm thinking I will never see my shoes again. read more

Stopped to get my Keen sandals repaired on a Monday, parking in the area was very difficult. They needed to be sewn on the sides, the stitching had come loose. Had to pay upfront which was $30....which I thought at the time was very high. Was told they would be done by Saturday. Returned Saturday and they had not been done...he apologized and gave some lame excuse.....BUT, he could have them ready in 30 minutes My quick calculations determined $60/hour for shoe repair. read more

EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED! The hours they have posted on yelp are wrong. I left work early on Monday to try to get there by 6pm. When I got there the hours on the door say they close at 5pm. If you want great service, get to Kent Shoe Repair. I recently took my ice skates to them to be stretched. It was a tough job because the toes of my boots are like steel toed boots. The staff there went WAY out of their way to help me. I recommend them highly and they will my one source for all things shoe related. Thanks so much. Kent Shoe Repair did a PERFECT job gluing the edge of a sole back onto my shoe. These weren't a cheap pair of shoes and after a bit of wear, the sole began to separate from the shoe on one side of one shoe. These are one of my most comfortable work shoes, so I was more than pleased the shoe could be repaired, and so reasonably. The gentleman was polite and the shoes look like no repair was made. Paul is excellent at his craft. Repaired one heel entirely and resoled both of my blue suede Diane Von Furstenberg. Cost me right around $60 and totally worth it. He even updated the sole to Vibram rubber and added tongue padding so they fit MUCH better than they did before. I am so pleased, I just dropped off two pairs of boots for repair. read more

I brought in my golf shoes for repairs to the toe portion of the sole because the glue came undone. They take cash only upfront, but their prices were reasonable. I picked up my shoe the next day. They looked great! I would go back again. read more

Great little shoe repair shop! I had a pair of fingerless driving gloves where the Velcro closure on one had come unstitched soon after I bought them. He stitched it up very quickly while I waited, and charged very little. I've been using the driving gloves every day for a couple months and they still look good and work like they should. read more
