However, I do want to comment on the fact that the sticker they used to identify my shoes was very difficult to remove, and left behind some residue that is impossible to get off. One of the very few shoe repairs left in the city. I used to go the one on Union by Gelatiamo and they weren't as good. I've been coming to Broadway Shoe Repair for years and had some nice Portuguese hand made boots re-soled. This was a time when Edie's shoes was open and Encanto Barcelona. This was also a time before the influx of fast fashion and really badly made shoes that are facsimiles of Too Boot New York oxfords and Chelsea boots. I love going to Crossroads and I found a near mint Danner boot Chelsea. It was nice and clean and also pretty chunky. Similar to a Birkenstock style dress shoe. The sole was a little worn and I got some taps on the back put on. I also got a couple other shoes re-soled. The customer service and advice from the staff is outstanding. To be able to understand your shoes, the lifespan of your shoes, and the wear on them is key. Also, to be able to figure out if you're going to toss your shoes after 2 years or give them new life by adding a new insole or going to a podiatrist to get a custom made one. I grew up during a time when shoes were valued like gold. Many working class people in Italy had their shoes made by a cobbler who was consorted a master artist. This shoe not only formed to your foot but it was your only shoe. There weren't 20 pairs of shoes to choose from. Times have changed and the cobbler business is disappearing. I'm so happy this place exists. The pride and legacy of the family owned business is a testament. Lastly, as people review my reviews, I play up the nostalgia factor. I enjoy the smell of the polish, hearing the sounds of the machines, and seeing the final product. If I could encapsulate all this in a smell like a candle I would. It's like the grease monkey smell. Prices are reasonable and higher than 2010 of course like anything else. Service is quick and exceptional. One thing I will share is that even when more shoe repairs were open l, this is still the best. The u village old marine is grumpy, and changed his prices whenever I saw him. They charged me $145 for NOT FIXING MY BOOTS. They not only didn't repair my boots...they REMOVED the velcro closure without telling me, nor my consent. He said "David forgot to put the Velcro closures back on". Never apologized for the terrible service. They literally made my boots USELESS. The zips they installed DID NOT WORK. They literally gave me boots with a broken zipper pull & zips that will not zip! They said "we don't do refunds". It's ALMOST COMICAL! They REFUSED to give me my money back. They ruined my designer shoes. They do not pay attention to details here. What happen was I bought a new pair of Gucci loafers 2 years ago. I used Kiwi Saddle Soap to clean them after wearing them only 4 times and I rubbed off a quarter sized patch of paint! I took them to Broadway shoe repair to get the color put back on. They tried to match the paint but couldn't and basically repainted the entire shoe a dusty white matte color instead of the ivory bone color that the shoes came in. When I got the shoes back they didn't look the same but I wasn't quite sure. I didn't even want to wear them anymore because something felt off and they sat in my closet for over a year. Recently I found these shoes in the box and the bad paint has now started to rub off. The original color came through and yup, it wasn't my imagination. That's why now I am just writing this review 1.5 years later because I felt embarrassed and just wanted to forget this mistake. The Guccis were $800 and I paid $32 to get them repainted! The repainting wasn't too expensive at the time (probably more now due to inflation) but they ruined the shoes more and now I have to pay more to fix the mistake. In addition, I took a pair of $200 Coach boots to be repaired at the same visit because the rivets on the strap to the faux buckle broke. I told them to just sew the strap back on. They ended up over sewing the tip of the buckle to the rest of the strap. The buckle tip is supposed to be loose like when thread through a buckle, not completely sewn on! The two shoes have to match, too but they missed that part. I had them take the stitching out and you can now see holes where they over stitched. It's not noticeable but these shoes were not cheap either for them to put random holes in! If it were in another spot I would have been pissed. Don't come here. They don't pay attention to detail and will ruin your designer goods. Recently I went to Old Style Shoe Shine downtown. They are much more expensive but did a much better job on my shoes. I will now have to take my Guccis there to get them properly restored with the right color paint. read more

I brought in a pile of shoes, leather jackets and a leather backpack that needed a strap sewn back on so they had ample opportunity to show their skills. Unfortunately, nothing was impressive. They sewed through the lining of the backpack which was careless and lazy (and something I could have done). They resoled some shoes with Goodyear tire rubber, so that was weird new branding and several of the soles split from the shoes within a few months. No craftsmanship. I could have just glued my shoes back together with the same result and saved myself a few hundred bucks. read more

I dropped off 2 pairs of nude patent leather heels: add a non slip grip to the sole and repair the heel/scruffs on the other. The gentleman was pleasant and advised the nail polish color he had was slightly off from the actual color of my shoes. I said it was fine and to repair as best as he could. The girl working always has a condescending look on her face and often times I dread going in knowing I have to interact with her. Anyhow, they take my payment of $62.65 and 3 days(by choice) later I go in to pick it up. The same girl with condescending look stands there. I said HI first with a smile, hoping she would do the same but that didn't seem to change her demeanor. She hands me my bag.. I pulled out both pairs to check and seriously thought WTF to myself. The heels I wanted repaired still looked the same- the only change was a dab of nail polish on the scruff. I asked if that was really the best they could do and she informed me they couldn't repair on patent leather!?! She even had the nerve to tell me that I had a miscommunication with the gentleman. I said no, the only thing he mentioned was the discrepancy on color, not that he couldn't repair patent leather. I just took my shoes and left. I will not be returning back and they can keep my money to hopefully buy a new attitude for the girl and invest into learning how to repair on patent leather. I've gone to them for everything from an old trucker's wallet to be retained and reconditioned and have links to the chain taken out, to have new soles on my shoes several times. Wife's heels on her sandals were worn but the rest of the sole was in good condition and we called around for estimates and ended up going here as we were in the area. We brought in the sandals and told them the heels were worn and how much to resole them and they gave us a price to resole the sandals and it was about the same as other places and it wasn't cheap. We were thinking do we buy a new pair or is it worth to resole them because the sandals were in great condition still. Well we said we'll think about it and then they told us they can just repair the heel portion only and gave us a price for that and it was way more reasonable than to resole them and we went ahead with it. I had a pair of E width boots, they helped me to narrow the heel with a leather back (see photos). Not a lot of places know how to do this. I'm impressed with the craftsmanship, and they were nice to work with. When I showed up the boots where not ready when I expected, however they turned them around in 30 minutes while I grabbed dinner near by. They also shined and buffed my boots before I put them on.
