I CAN'T GET KEN TO TAKE MY MONEY! Had a problem with a mower running too fast, and reached out to Ken based on his exemplary Yelp reviews. He engaged quickly, set up a time to come out to my house, spent time diagnosing the mower, and showed me the part that was broken. He didn't have the replacement on the truck and I'd told him I was comfortable replacing it myself, so we agreed for him to come back out and adjust it after I replaced the rocker arm. On the second trip, Ken worked on the mower for a while to keep it from running too fast and pointed out a couple things I'd done wrong when I rebuilt the engine. Turns out I was going to need to rebuild the motor again to fix the internal part that wasn't working right. I tried to pay him for the 2 trips and he said he couldn't accept payment since he didn't get it to a full running condition. I have now rebuilt it, gotten it running again, and reached out to Ken to adjust it. He gave me detailed instructions over e-mail to make the adjustments myself since he knows I'm handy, and has declined my 3rd attempt to pay him for his services...again since he says he didn't leave the mower fully functional. You don't see this level of integrity, honesty, and consideration out of many people these days. If Ken won't let me pay him, the most I can do is give him a 5* rating anywhere I can. I told him exactly what my bf said about our weedeater: -missing the rubber thingie that primes the gas -also needs a few of those little rubber gas tubes cause they're broken/old I apologized and hoped that meant something to him, since I hadn't (and haven't..) the slighest. I have a 10 or 12 year old John Deere L-108 Riding Lawn tractor, and had had it parked for a month or so. I started it up a day or so before New Year's Day, and when I did, it created a HORRIBLE cloud of whitish smoke. I turned to Yelp, after having less than satisfactory service with the authorized dealer, a couple towns north of Austin. Due to the holidays, Ken's website posted that he was on vacation for the first week of the new year, but had a service request form to fill out, so I did, and then had to be patient until he resumed his work schedule. He contacted me and was able to get me in on Wednesday of his first day back to work. He phoned when he was on his way, and arrived precisely in a half an hour, as he'd estimated his arrival. After his arrival, drawing a big white trailer, he came to the door and we went and looked at the mower together. After checking the oil, it was apparent to him that I had cause the problem, by adding just a little TOO much oil to the crankcase. As he explained, this, in turn, caused the excess oil to work it's way into the carburetor, which--he predicted accurately, was the problem. He concluded that the oil looked thin, and the likely cause was that gas had gotten into the crank case as well. I could not recall the last time I had the oil changed in it, so using a vacuum pump, he sucked out all of the oil, replaced the filter and then refilled the oil--but this time, with the CORRECT volume. Once he had diagnosed the problem he said he could repair it where it was parked in the back yard. Fortunately, his trailer is a shop on wheels, and he had ALL of the parts on board that he needed. I had some unopened bottles JD mower oil on hand, and he was fine with using them, which saved me a little money, and he even had the proper oil filter with him, saving a trip to a parts store. Even more amazing, he also had the correct carburetor kit, and rebuilt it in his rolling workshop. As we visited, he said that he'd been doing small engine repair since he was in high school, and so he has DECADES of experience working on mowers. Once he got the carb rebuilt and the oil & filter changed, he cranked it up, and he said it'd likely blow out a little smoke until the oil had cleared out of the fuel line--maybe a few minutes. But as soon has he cranked it, it fired up, blew out a single puff of smoke, and then ran like a kitten. He also cleaned the spark plug while he was at it. As we spoke, he explained to me some of the physical properties of motor oil, how lubrication actually works due to the chemistry of the oil, and also taught me that the ethanol now used in gasoline, often tends to break down some of the carburetor seals, and other materials that it contacts. He also recommended several products for helping maintain the fuel system, some additives, and even taught me that now you can even buy pre-mixed oil and gas for 2 stroke engines, so you don't have to bother mixing the two ingredients any more, and hope that you got the ratios right. He could not have been more courteous, more informative, or possessed a greater breadth of knowledge, skills and abilities as far as working on small gas engines. He was amazing. And from start to finish, he had all of this work done in 90 minutes. Had I tried to learn how to do the things he did--even if I had a general idea of how to do them, it still would have taken me DAYS to accomplish half of what he did in that hour and a half. He is a true master of his art. If there were a way to give him an even better rating than I have, I would do it. I will use him again. Finally, since he has an encyclopedic knowledge of small gas engines, I asked him about whether he might be able to take a look at a nearly-50 year old boat motor that I had inherited from my father. But, he explained, he doesn't work on either boat motors, or ATVs, not because he couldn't, but rather, engines of those sorts require entirely different sets of service parts, and it would be impractical for him to attempt to stock the inventory of them that one would need to work on those categories of engines. All in all, he was priced fairly, and delivered some of the finest customer service I've ever received in more than a quarter of a century of living in Austin. Just had Ken come to my house to fix a 7-8 year old John Deer riding mower. I have used Ken twice. He can usually get out to you very quickly so usually the next day, so you can type up a service request online even at night. I submitted a request at 7pm and got an email reply by 9pm saying he could go by the next day. You can bring stuff to him I think but his business specialty is that he can come to you. There is a minimum charge for him coming out but that's expected. You can leave your mower outside so he can service even if you are not home. He called to give me an estimate and got right on it. He emailed me the invoice and I paid using Paypal. I totally recommend Ken. read more

My 14 year old Toro Lawnmower lost its ability to move itself. I could still mow, but had to push the mower. I checked with some repair shops and it was clear that if I took it in, I would loose use of the mower for weeks. Ken came to my house and serviced my lawnmower today (June 26) in Georgetown. I am 150% satisfied with his service and pricing. A regular service of my Honda 21' self-propelled mower would usually cost me $150-$200 at my normal "in-the-store" lawnmower service company in Georgetown. I would have to haul my mower to their store...without any guarantee of when I would get it back. Seems like it always took 10-14 days. Not so with Ken's mobile service. We exchanged emails and he told me when he could come to my house to service it. I had use of it until that day (which was great). On Mothers Day, my son hit a throwing horseshoe with my new lawn mower. Bad day as yard was already high. Last week called Ken, he ordered new crankshaft part and came today. I asked Ken over email for a rough estimate to fix my trimmer. It's not a high end model so I knew the repair cost might be close enough to replacement not to bother and wanted a ballpark figure. Not only did he advise me to take it into the shop instead of using his service, as it would likely be better for me in this particular case, he gave me a tip on something to look for, which ended up resolving the problem anyway without even having to go to a shop. If you need a mower repaired, Ken's Mobile Services is a good call. I would have had to scramble to get the riding mower hauled to a shop, so I liked the idea of mobile service. Ken was really booked, so I had a wait a few days, but he showed up on the scheduled day, and even gave me a 30 min "I'm on the way call." He diagnosed the problem (bad starter) and got the part ordered. He returned a few days later to complete the repair and then did a full service (blades sharpened, oil change, tune up, new filters, lube etc...the works.) You can tell Ken knows all kinds of mowers inside and out. You can tell a lot about a mechanic by the way he uses, organizes and take's care of his tools. Ken has got it down to a science. I highly recommend Ken's service, not only does he make the scheduling process very easy he truly knows his business. Adding that he comes to you and you don't have to be home for him to do his work is an additional huge benefit. Not having to load a dirty mower into the car to seek service was a huge plus. This may have been the best person I have ever had to my home to do anything. We got our appointment set up and Ken showed up on time and ready to go to work. He carries everything he needs in a trailer to do the work including a computer and printer to do the invoice. My Honda lawn mower was in bad shape. Emailed with a request to service my gas lawn mower. I bought it almost 10 years ago at Sears and I have never had it tuned up and it wouldn't start anymore. I made an appointment with Ken and he was able to make it out in a couple weeks. I wasn't home when he came by so I left it out for him. He tuned it up and left the old parts in a plastic bag.
