WARNING: Do not shop here! Owner, John Hamlin and his staff…read moreLori, mislead, lie, cheat and overcharge! Not to mention they are utterly incompetent, inappropriate and lack any knowledge in kitchens or baths. We had so many problems and so many things went wrong, that it is hard to list everything in one post. We had to order and re-order the the bathroom hardware three times. Because, they didn't know what worked in California or not. After that, they did know what values covers matched what values. And, of course after the third time it was still wrong and we had already installed the valve, so we had to compromise and take the value cover we didn't intend on. During all this chaos, Lori lost track of all the parts we had to return and exchange due to her own incompetence and accused us of taking and not returning the parts. Parts that she could not find! Wow, really! Turns out they had them the entire time! She never apologize, coward! We also ordered wall cabinets and a bathroom vanity, from John. Like other customers reviews, we too did not get the correct cabinets for the space intended, as we were told. Our contractor had to take the time to correct cabinets for the kitchen and correct them to work in the bathroom, which was more money I had to pay! He even ordered the wrong sink, twice! Finally, the counter top vendor came and told us the sink was wrong and he could get the correct sink size(sink number 3), and cheaper than John could. The counter top guy was correct. And when confronted, the Owner; John's Hamlin's response was a shoulder shrug and a lame fake smile. Then, he mentioned the counter top vendor has done this many times, and John felt he had sinks to unload. Either way, it is not good. It makes John look week by letting a vendor over power him and his business or he looks incomplete that the vendor has to bail him out and he makes so many mistakes with sinks. If that wasn't enough, they overcharged us on parts, they changed us for things we did not have or use and they had things we paid for listed twice at two different prices! As an example, they changed us $442.46 for a faucet, which they said the gave us the "maximum discount"on! Turns out you can buy the same thing at Ferguson's, Home Depot or Amazon for as little as $379.90. When we went to dispute the final amount due, it took them an hour and twenty five minutes to comprehend and explain their own bill they submitted to us. And, they finally had to reduce the amount due from $958,75 to $588.54 because it was staring them in the face they were wrong! John clams to have over 34 years of experience, in what? If it is in Kitchens and baths, he must have been sleeping those 34 years. He and his business are a complete disaster.

From our first interaction - Jared was "people first". He cared about our family's needs, spent a great deal of time evaluating our complex options - and was the first to state when he felt something was beyond his scope, expertise, or bandwidth (spoiler alert: nothing is :) Though the entire process , Jared maintained his professional demeanor as our strategy shifted through various curveballs: changing market conditions, rebuilding vs selling, and working through various needs of our insurance provider. He also employs top-notch technology. As work commenced, I was able to stay on top of the day's activities through a digital log - complete with pictures, reports, and project details. The entire time I felt so "connected" to the build, and his team always delivered when they said they would. Finally, it always felt that Jared considers a long term view for his clients, I never felt pushed in any direction. He considers your success to be his success. Please consider Jared to your interview panel, he'll deservedly earn your business.

The project was primarily an owner build, so between that and the pandemic it ended up being a multi-year project.  Over the course of planning and building we worked very closely with Cyndi - not only on the designs for our kitchen and bathrooms but for general design help throughout the house. Cyndi was absolutely wonderful to work with throughout the whole process. Not only was she incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and helpful - she had an inordinate amount of patience (and tact!) in helping us navigate through the thousands of decisions that had to be made. She was adept at creating a cohesive design out of our rather ad hoc lists of likes and dislikes, and did so without imposing her own personal preferences or style. My husband and I also both appreciated that she was very pragmatic - she understood that we weren't interested in building a mansion and was very good about pointing out the areas where it made sense to spend and where it didn't. Her knowledge and contacts in the business were invaluable, both in terms of the quality of the workmanship we ended up with as well as access to resources that we would not have been able to find on our own. When it came time to order all our cabinets and countertops she handled every last detail, and made sure that what we ultimately received exactly matched her specifications. I was originally hesitant to hire a designer, both because of the additional cost and also because my husband and I are both fairly practical and were more interested in function over form. We have no regrets - engaging Cyndi to help us with the project was money that was very well spent. Not only did it prevent expensive mistakes, but we love the results. After living in the house for over a year I can honestly say that there isn't anything that she helped design that I would do differently if given the chance. Our living room is not what is in style today, but it is more of an "Old English" style. Not easy to find someone who would help with just one small thing. I have a chair I liked, I looked to see where their chairs were sold, and called and asked for a recommendation. Luckily they gave me Jeff's name. I was apologetic for such a small job, but he happily accepted the challenge. He found several fabrics, and we quickly picked out a green plaid one. But since he was at our house, you know how this goes......I mentioned that I hated my dining room table. Jeff suggested that we get a table that would blend with our antique buffet. Expensive, so I dragged my feet. When the chair arrived, Jeff and I spoke again. I told him that the one thing that I regretted was not getting the table. He said as with everything else, prices were going up, and I might consider doing it sooner rather than later. Jeff came out once again to look at the finishes, so that we could pick a finish that blended best with what we already have. When the table arrived, we told Jeff that our shower was leaking and it was time to update......you can see where this is going. Not only did Jeff meet us twice at tile stores, but he found someone who would replace our shower for us. (Previously we had called about 6 different people, and no one would come out, they just wanted us to send pictures, and then we never heard from them again.) I haven't even mentioned the living room pillows for my couch that brighten up the room.....Jeff is a pleasure and easy to work with. He understood what I was looking for and was a great cheerleader when I got rid of my old clunky dining room set! And let's face it, I'm still thinking about the quail lamp that he showed me....we are very happy with everything that Jeff helped us with. Our house looks refreshed, and more updated.

I went in there with my own design for my bathroom in hand, and asked for help putting the project together. Maybe refining or adding to my design. Maybe advice on appropriate materials and fixtures. This "designer" was so useless that I ended up obtaining most of the materials myself, not from SCKB. Furthermore, he simply copied my design -- with zero changes -- and called it his. When the project was finished, this guy saved photos of the room and, I later found out, used them in his portfolio of completed designs. A room that I designed. This would be little more than an annoyance and maybe a funny story if it were not for the fact that in the middle of this process he demanded I write him a check -- made out to him, not his employer -- for a "consultation fee." I didn't know it at the time, but this was nothing but a shakedown. Theft. There was no consultation fee for his "services" (at least this was true at that time). The income for SCKB's "designers" came at that time from from commission on selling materials and fixtures and, I assume, a percentage of the contractor's fee (at that time they referred clients to independent builders, but it appears from their website that they may employ their own builders now). After I found out I'd been had, I contacted the owners of SCK&B and told them the whole story, and was blown off without any explanation. And here is the kicker: the guy was still working at SCK&B as recently as two years ago. So they kept him on even knowing that he did this. This was my experience with SCK&B. Your mileage may vary. Needless to say, I don't recommend this business.

The entire process was super professional from beginning to end. The communication was top notch and every sub that came through was kind, polite, and did the job very well. It is rare to go through such a large remodel and to not have issues pop up....but we didn't have ONE. They showed up when they said they would, they got in touch with us immediately with any issues or questions, and things were resolved on the spot. Our designer, Cody, was fabulous. She "got" my vision from the very beginning. When she did her presentation to show us the colors and design she had come up with, it was as if she saw into my head....she's amazing. She nailed it. Our project manager, Brian, was fantastic...we don't have one complaint. And bonus...they told us approximately five months to do the remodel from beginning to end...and they finished two days before the five month mark. Unheard of in this industry. We will never use another builder, it will always be SCGB for us. We are absolutely thrilled with our remodel, and the quality of work....I cannot sing their praises highly enough.
