For the skimmers: 1. her prices are shockingly reasonable 2. her assessments/fittings are super sharp and fast. 3. she's been doing this work for a very long time (I've known of her for at least 15 years and she was a bit of a guru when I met her. Very experienced. Seriously, Ninel is as good as it gets. I first encountered her in roughly 2002 when I found a vintage cocktail dress that needed MAJOR reconstruction to fit me. I couldn't resist the Thrift store budget price of $1.00. I brought it to Ninel and she made it fit, like magic. I say "like magic" because it is not magic but ather the kind of skill that years in the business will earn you. She just makes it seem like magic. I've also brought her several small projects like pants hemming and simple darting. Recently, I brought her my dream wedding dress. I purchased it in the only size the store had left... a full size too small. I had intended to do major fitness to get into it (pause for laughter) but ended up needing major reconstruction (on the dress, not my body). The dress needed major deconstruction and reconstruction; she purchased and matched the fabric for the under-slips. She literally had to take the thing apart and put it back together. We're talking a DELICATE lace top layer with tons of odd angles and sequins; she pulled it off and now I can pull off the dress I could not turn away from even though it was WAY too small. I am eternally grateful that I know of a talented person who can work "magic" with fabric. I send everyone that asks about "a good tailor" to Ninel. read more

Well done and timely alterations on my mother-of-the-groom gown. The fit now is perfect. What more could you ask for?!

Ninel is so talented and a pleasure to work with. I wouldn't go anywhere else. She did an amazing job on my daughter's wedding dress alterations as well as many items I have brought to be altered this past year. Thank you! read more

I had heard rave reviews about Ninel. I was surprised to be greeted by a gentleman. I'm not sure if she still works there. He was very kind but hesitant to touch me or pin anything. I would go to him for simple tailoring but not for bridal alterations. read more

Kenny's Tailoring - Picture does not do the dress justice. The adjustments needed took skill as the pattern on the lace and scalloped bottom took expertise !! - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Newington, Connecticut

I had Ninel alter a Lela Rose wedding gown that retailed for over $5,000 and she did an amazing job. This dress needed to have a LOT of work done - the entire bustle was moved (about 20 ties total!), shoulders adjusted (two layers), hemming of the whole dress, and slimming through the bust, waist, hips, all while maintaining the original intricate design of the dress. Ninel not only did a beautiful job, she exceeded my expectations. She was able to get my dress tailored for my wedding in about a month, which is very short notice for wedding dress alterations. She's insanely knowledgable about how alterations effect how a dress moves, how the fabric should lay, etc. She even explained to me the best way to stand in the dress, how to carry the hem so I don't wrinkle the silk, and personally called a cleaners for me regarding steaming my dress. Appointments were always on time and she gave me her full attention. She always made sure to ask me about my thoughts regarding every detail of my dress alteration and I never felt rushed. I spent around $300 on alterations for my dress, which was well worth it - Ninel essentially took my dress apart and put it back together! If you have a high end wedding dress, Ninel is the perfect person to to trust with your alterations. Thanks again! read more

I brought my Monique Lhuillier wedding dress to Ninel after finding her on Yelp. She did a wonderful job and my dress ended up looking and fitting even better than I expected! I was so happy with her work and her prices were reasonable compared to what I have heard from other brides. (My alterations cost around $250). My only suggestion to her would be to make her dressing room area neater with surround view mirrors like you see at bridal shops. Thank you Ninel!! read more

Kenny's Tailoring - Dressing room a little cluttered- but the dress came out beautifully!! - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Newington, Connecticut

I brought a fancier dress here (Laundry by Shelli Segal) to get hemmed and Ninel did a fantastic job. I thought prices were pretty reasonable, and the turnaround time was fast. I was worried about the front of the dress showing a little too much cleavage and she showed me how to fix that problem with a well-placed safety pin. She definitely knows her dresses, and if I lived closer I'd consider having her custom-make dresses for me, too! She was very professional. I'm definitely going back. read more

I had my wedding dress altered by Ninel and I couldn't be more pleased with my experience. I brought my wedding dress in VERY last minute and Ninel was able to make all my alterations within about a month. She is so talented and has such an eye for detail. Prices were affordable and she was always accommodating when it came to appointments! read more

I took my two wedding dresses to Ninel's to be altered after finding her on Yelp. She did a great job on both of my dresses. I cut and hemmed one of them and then tightened and bustled the other. I was very happy with her work and her prices were fair and reasonable. The dresses fit great!! I would recommend her to other brides or people looking for tailors or alterations. I agree with another reviewer for Ninel's to get more mirrors which will allow the customer to view from different angles. But overall it was a great experience!! Thank you!! read more

Ninel altered my Anne Barge wedding dress that I bought as a sample and she did a perfect job. She listened to everything I wanted and advised me on best options but wasn't pushy or rushing. I cannot recommend enough. Thank you! read more

Kenny's Tailoring - Wedding dress alterations were perfect! - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Newington, Connecticut

I went in to have my wedding dress altered about six weeks ago. I scheduled my final fitting the same day I was there and I was assured it would be ready by the time I returned. I showed up for my final fitting and when I put on the dress I realized he had not worked on it at all since I had left it there six weeks ago and I became very anxious. The dress was not hemmed, the straps were not adjusted, it was supposed to be taken in a little and it was still very big on me, the bustle had also not been added. When I asked what he had done to the dress since my first fitting, he tried to turn it back on me and say this was my first fitting and I had never come here before with the dress (even though I didn't walk in with the dress and it was sitting in the changing room when I came in). When I showed him the receipt he had given me listing the work he was going to do, the measurements he had taken, and the cost, he changed his tune and said he was going to do all the work that same day. I was in complete shock my wedding is less than a month away and the dress still needed a ton of work. I ended up leaving and taking the dress elsewhere since I couldn't trust that he would actually get the dress done in time. Brides please be wary of taking your dress here. I don't ever write reviews but I am genuinely worried this man does not know what he is doing and more brides will be scrambling to get their dress altered in time like I did! read more

Ninel did an amazing job on my very complicated dress! Mariella's ordered me a HUGE size wedding dress. Ninel spent hours working on it. My dress had a ton of beading down the whole thing. My wedding dress fit perfectly throughout the whole night and didn't fall down once. I was amazed at how thorough she was with her work and the pride she took into making my dress beautiful on me. She is by far the best in the area! read more

I had a great experience with Ninel! I had a prom dress that I needed heavily altered/ shortened within just under a week. She fit me in very fast, and was able to finish the dress for me in time. The appointment was quick and efficient, and she made sure I was happy with the finished product. Overall, a wonderful experience!! I would recommend this dress shop to anyone looking for a good alteration for a fair price, and great customer service. On top of that, Ninel is very personable and professional. Thanks Ninel!! read more

I have been going to Ninel for over ten years. There is no other person like her in the area. Because her talent is well sought out and she is so busy, I brought a shirt to a family member to have them alter. Needless to say, I had to bring it it Ninel to still alter. She is so good and can do things with fabric that I have learned I can't trust anyone else to do. read more

I went to Ninel's dress shop for wedding dress alterations about two months before my wedding. Ninel gave me a very reasonable price and her work was flawless. She was extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of dress constructions, explaining exactly why she was making each alteration. She hemmed and bustled my dress which didn't have a traditional hemline. She made sure she reinforced three buttons for the bustle in case of emergencies (we didn't end up needing the second two because the first held just fine)! Ninel gave me a very reasonable price and worked within my limited timeline. She also pressed my veil and dress. She has many of her handmade creations around the shop as well - she does beautiful work! I will definitely bring future dresses here for alterations. read more

Normally I'm suspicious of a full five-star rating on Yelp, but I had both a lovely and stress-free experience at Ninel's shop for my wedding dress alterations. I would recommend and trust her with any of my future alterations that need to be done and plan on returning in the fall with some other items. Because of my bare bones budget for my wedding dress, it was actually purchased from an online consignment store and so already had the bustle I wanted. Instead, the work I needed from her was building on existing alterations. I ended up paying about $156 including tax, which ended up including the hemming as well as adjusting the bustle. Ninel did a wonderful job! And I felt like the cost was fair, given that my dress has an overlay with lace and beading, which meant it wasn't a simple hemming job and the bustle was two layers. However, the original price she quoted was slightly under that and she tacked on a little extra because the bustle was more elaborate than she'd expected. Wouldn't have been an issue if she'd mentioned it upfront, but I would have liked to see better communication about the price increase. In total, I had four fittings - but you should probably be able to get your wedding dress done in three. For one of them, there was a bit of an incident where I had moved recently and couldn't find the shoes I was supposed to wear with my dress, so I had to reschedule last-minute. On the third fitting, Ninel had a mixup with updating her notes and hadn't made any alterations since the last time, but was very apologetic about the issue. Because she didn't charge me extra for the previous late reschedule, I called it even. I found it incredibly helpful that she walked me through how to bustle my dress and had me try it for myself, as I would have ended up following a tutorial on YouTube and making lots of mistakes. She also was able to make a great recommendation for a wedding dress cleaner that I will be using. To echo another Yelper, my constructive suggestions would be for her to invest some money into her shop and to update her system. The room where I tried on my dress for her only had one full-length mirror, and I would have liked to see the three-panel type that's typical of wedding dress boutiques so you can see from different angles without turning. The same fitting room I was in is also used for storage of dresses and other items that still need tailoring, so it felt more cluttered than it needed to be. She is also the sole employee of her shop, which means she greets people, handles the fitting, does the sewing, answers the phone, etc. With that expectation, you're not going to get the same kind of customer-oriented service that you would at a fancier boutique, but you're also paying a much more reasonable price at Ninel's. Obviously the ambiance is a much less important issue than the quality of Ninel's work, so in general this is more of an area of growth potential that I see. Note that early to mid-May is prom season, so she's typically very busy. Would highly recommend to steer clear, especially if your tailoring isn't time-sensitive. I will be coming back with a wool coat for her to tailor once the weather gets cooler! 4.5 stars read more

Ninel did a beautiful job on alterations for a bridesmaids dress that I brought in. She is wonderful and it was overall a lovely experience! I wasn't quite sure what alterations were needed, I just knew it was too big for me in the bust, but she was able to figure it out for me quickly- the entire fitting appointment took less than 20 minutes. I also thought her prices were very fair ($20 to shorten some very thin/delicate straps and $22 to add bra cups to the dress). The dress was ready for me to pick up in less than two weeks, and scheduling my fitting appointment was so easy. I have already suggested her to a friend who is looking for alterations and I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for beautiful, reasonably priced work! I will definitely return for future alterations. read more

I could not be more happy with how my dress came out after being altered by Ninel. She is a very personable and kind woman who has an amazing talent. I had cups added to my wedding dress, a bustle, and alteration in the length. Ninel was able to complete the work in a timely fashion and for a very reasonable price. My older sister paid more in alterations at a dress shop then she did for her dress!! My alterations were under $200, and I feel this is fair for the great work done. Wonderful experience overall. Ninel even gave suggestions and altered the dress when my shoes kept sticking to the lace material of the dress. Awesome and quaint place!!! read more

Ninel altered my consignment wedding dress and she did such an amazing job. She is so professional and so experienced and knew exactly what to do the second I put my dress on. Being only 4'11", I was concerned with how I was going to make this big dress fit my little body, but Ninel worked her magic. Each fitting was super fast, Ninel working efficiently each time to make sure that everything was perfect and done in time for pick up the week of the wedding. At the final fitting, there were a few little things that needed touching up (i had lost a little bit of weight between fittings) and she was able to get these little spots done within 30 minutes so I could still take the dress home that day. She was very attentive to what I wanted while being very vocal and honest about how to work with the material and style of my dress to make it work. She was so helpful when my mom came to the last couple of fittings to help show her how to bustle the dress after she added on the hooks. My wedding dress fit perfectly! Ninel was so professional, kind, and accommodating and her prices are so reasonable! I will definitely be going back whenever I need anything done and would recommend her to anyone! read more

Ninel has worked magic on my clothes for years. She does a beautiful job and her prices are more than reasonable. One springtime several years ago, she designed a wedding dress for me that was breath-takingly beautiful. Simple, elegant ...so much so that even now, years later, I cannot bear to part with it even though the marriage didn't survive. I am hoping now to return the dress to her and see if she can show it in her shop and perhaps some other wedding will be graced with her vision. Cheryl B read more

Ninel did a fantastic job altering a complicated bridesmaid dress! I ordered the dress before finding out I was pregnant and recently needed the size 4 floor-length gown altered to fit my 6-month pregnant self. This review is looooong overdue. Ninel has literally worked miracles on multiple occasions for me. First, my wedding dress. I bought the dress for a great price but it needed a lot of work. Ninel was a perfectionist and did not rest until it laid perfectly in every place. I felt like she took the time and put in the effort that most people would just not do. And it showed - I got so many compliments that my dress "fit perfectly" and everything stayed in place for the entire day. She even mended my mother's veil, which I wanted to wear and was told by other tailors that it was beyond fixable. She had the dress and veil ready on time, didn't rush the fittings, and had expert advice on how to press it before the big day. I've brought other dresses to her, which she has handled with ease, but the latest miracle was when she was able to make a handmade sari, designed with my pre-pregnancy measurements, fit perfectly at 7 months pregnant. She strengthened and let out the delicate silk top, which actually broke on some of the other bridesmaids. Her prices are very reasonable, she works hard to fit people in, and she is just so knowledgeable. Highly recommend!!! read more

Ninel is such a lovely person. Her work is exceptional. I'm so happy with all the pillows and rugs that she finished for me.

I have gotten a few pairs of dressy pants and jeans hemmed here, as I am fun sized (aka short). Ninel did a nice job. She has you try on the clothes and pins them to your desired length in front of a wall mirror, giving suggestions for those... with less fashion knowledge. I recently dropped off a (will be cute) dress after she hems away an ugly ruffle bottom. I'm not familiar with seamstress pricing, but it's $12 to hem pants and takes about 1.5-2 weeks to do so. She does NOT accept credit cards, so bring cash! read more

I found Ninel's dress shop after searching on Yelp for wedding dress alterations. She made an appointment for my dress fitting very quickly and once I tried on the dress, she had recommended minor alterations which included making a bustle for the dress. She does fantastic work and was very thorough in explaining the changes she had made assuring that I was happy with the fit. At my final dress fitting, she even took the time to teach my friend how to bustle my dress and let her practice a couple of times. The dress came out beautifully and the service was exceptional. She is also VERY reasonably priced for wedding alterations as I had done some research prior to calling her shop. I highly recommend her for wedding dress alterations and will be sure to return to her shop for any additional clothing repairs/alterations in the future. Thank you Ninel!! read more
