I discovered this establishment many a years ago back when Connie was still there. I loved them then and still love them now. I brought my niece in to get fitted for a flower girl dress that I bought several sizes too big (it was such a good deal, I couldn't pass it up). The woman I spoke with (new owner I assume) was very honest and open about what would need to be done. Absolutely no surprises. I knew exactly what to expect when I went to pick it up and she was spot on. It was a difficult dress to work with, and it was explained to me in depth before I left it with them. I was not pressured to move forward with the alterations once the fitting was over and I appreciated that. I did however move forward with getting the alterations feeling very confident after the explanation I received. When I picked it up the dress wasn't perfect, but looked exactly how it was explained to me it would look. My point in this review is 1) Service is exceptional 2) you are told exactly what to expect even if not perfect so you can make a truly informed decision 3) prices are reasonable 4) quick turnaround I highly recommend this tailor. Short folks like me can never find a perfect pair of pants, but sometimes you just can't put up with it. Thankfully Connie's has done great work on casual garments like work clothes (seriously, sewing machine witchcraft here!) and formalwear. My bridal attendant gown was perfect after they got their hands on it, and basic khakis look perfect after a trip to Connie's. My overalls looked tailor made after a trip to Connie's...well, they are now! There are no Sunday or Monday hours, and you need to bring cash, but Connie's does great work in a timely, fairly-priced manner. Being in Berlin, this is an easy to reach spot right off 9, and not far from 84 or 91. read more

They did a great job hemming a dress for me. It was two layers one crinoline and one chiffon. Price was around $70 but it was a complicated job with multiple layers and they expedited it. While silver threads and golden needles cannot mend a broken heart, they can mend your torn garments if brought to Connie's. I hope this won't ruin anyone's day, but Connie is gone, long gone, gone like 7-8 years, possibly gone to that fairy tale land where the Emperor has new clothes that don't require alterations. The new owner has not skipped a stitch so save nine possibly even 10 by bringing them in for repair ASAP. Most recently I purchased a pair of jeans requiring hemming so I dropped them off on Tuesday and found them hanging around waiting for me on Friday. I've only visited Connie's once for the hem to be let out on two pairs of pants, but they were very friendly and did quality work. I brought my pants in on a Friday and they were ready on Wednesday, so not as fast as some other places, but I prefer to support a small business in town. I was in bridesmaid in a wedding earlier this month. The dress I wore was a long, strapless chiffon gown from David's Bridal. Since I am only 5' 3'' tall, I needed the gown to be shortened. Being the procrastinator I am, I brought the dress to Connie's two weeks before the wedding. Luckily, Connie and her team were able to do the $45.00 shortening job within a week. left a dress to be altered. the woman who pinned the dress could not tell me how much the alterations would be as the owner had stepped out. when my husband picked up the dress it was $45, but when I tried the dress on at home only some of the alterations had been completed. there were still pins left on the sleeves and the lining of the dress was hanging down from below the hem. Also, I had asked the slip to be sewn so that my knee was not visible. My knee was still visible. when I returned w/the dress to have them complete what hadn't been done, I got an attitude and was spoken to harshly. I will not go there again! read more

Connie is so lovely! I was recommended to her by a friend to have a bridesmaid dress altered. The place I had previously gone to wanted to charge me $150 for alterations, and some of the other bridesmaids told me that was pretty high and to try Connie's because that's where their dresses were. Connie completed my alterations for $70 and had it done a lot quicker than the other place was going to. My dress came out beautiful & she was definitely worth the drive. read more

I brought in a bridesmaid dress that was too small for me in the shoulders and too big around the waist...I had pretty much given up hope on this dress...but they were able to make it fit great! I also brought in a dress to have hemmed, but I wanted to keep the original pattern on the hem. Connie did a beautiful job of maintaining the original hem I wanted! I had a tailoring emergency and Connie's saved me! I flew into town for my friend's Father's funeral. While at the airport I ripped the seems in my suit pants. I texted my wife to look for a tailor. I arrived in Hartford at 730 pm Thursday. My wife said that Tao at Connie's could help me if I dropped it off at 8am I would have it in time. I arrived at 8am. The sign said they open at 9am but the door was open. I received a very warm greeting. The tear was complicated and involved multiple seams. They told me to come back at 930 and it would be ready. I came back. It looked brand new!!! They did a fantastic job and only charged me $15. I gave them a $20. I would highly recommend them to anyone. They were friendly, professional and efficient. I just got my Wedding dress altered here and omg she did an amazing job!!! My dress fit me perfectly, she made a beautiful train and put buttons on my dress so that I could clip the train to my dress after the ceremony. They are the BEST. I had three bridesmaids dresses I needed tailored this year, and they did all of them flawlessly. One dress I had originally gotten tailored right at the store I bought it from, but the store did such an awful job, I brought it to Connie's anyways. She was able to squeeze me in within a really tight timeframe and worked some sort of magic to fix the dress and make it absolutely perfect. I had my wedding dress done here. They did a beautiful job, the bustle they did on the dress looked amazing - they actually took some of the fabric that they cut when they hemmed it to cover small buttons for the bustle hooks. Very professional work. Also talked me out of an unnecessary alteration, which I appreciated. I believe it cost about $250 for hemming, bustle, and cups - which is pretty much the going rate (or at least it was when I got it done, over a year ago). Highly recommend this shop. read more
