I had the most amazing experience going to Meryem for my wedding gown alterations. I bought my dress off the rack only 2 months before my wedding, and I went to see Meryem to shorten the straps, tighten the top, and add a bustle. Less than a month before the wedding, I decided I'd really like sleeves. Meryem told me if I bring her the fabric, she will make them for me. I brought in the fabric and an inspiration picture and I am absolutely amazed with the results. Not only did my dress fit perfectly, it was a one of a kind piece of art. Even better than the inspiration picture. Meryem is so talented, and very considerate of making sure it's done with extra time to spare before the event. Outrages prices! no clear communication! She won't tell you an estimate until she fits you. She will tell you at the counter the price and if you don't agree she will charge you a 25$ fitting fee where there is no sign in the store that says that. She will just argue with you. I had the most amazing experience getting my wedding ballgown altered at Tata's Distinctive Tailoring. I originally bought my dress from David's Bridal and realized it was way too big, and needed to be tailored. I called in and made an appointment right away. Service is always friendly and professional. She made me feel comfortable and confident in my wedding dress throughout all of the necessary fittings. My gown had intricate beading, and due to the nature of the alternations, she had to remove each of the hundreds of beads by hand, take in the material, and re-sew the beading back by hand. To say she is talented is an understatement. I would trust Tata's Distinctive Tailoring with any tailoring need, from something as simple as hemming to something as important as your wedding dress! Her prices were reasonable and she completed my dress far in advance to my deadline for the wedding. This place is great. I was looking for a tailor to shorten the length of a gown I wanted to wear for an upcoming formal. I found Tata's on yelp and decided to give it a try. Service was prompt when I came in. I was able to put on my dress and all the measurements for alteration were quickly, but diligently finished in a reasonable time. I was told that my dress would be ready about 5 days later. I called ahead of time to see if it would be okay if I came a few days later than than that and she was very accommodating to my needs. The service was great. It is a little pricier, but if it's an important dress/suit or event then you don't want to take your chances cutting corners to save a few bucks. Overall, I am very happy with my experience here. I had previously tried going to a place in west Hartford where I was all but pushed out after being refused because I wanted a dress tailored in a weeks time during "prom season." I will be returning here for all of my tailoring needs. read more

I don't write reviews for Yelp often, honestly I primarily use Urban Spoon. However, when it's outside of the realm of food, I come here. I had just bought a pair of stylish bandana-pattern shorts only to come home and realize that there was a stupid flair-ish thing circling the bottom of both pant legs, and to make it even worse, they fell a little below the knee. A friend of mine who lives in Avon reccomended Tata's Distinctive Tailoring. Walking in, I knew I had made the right choice. A huge smile from every employee greeted me. When I went to give the tailor the shorts, I realized I didn't measure how much I wanted taken off! No matter though, I held them up to my legs and she happily marked where they'd be cut off. Just one day later I went back and got my shorts. A perfect length, and no more of the stupid looking flair seam on the bottom. I have since gone back to have a suit tailored and could not be more pleased with the results. They really know what they are doing. And to top it all off? Very fair prices. So there ya have it folks- Great tailoring, great staff, great prices. It doesn't get much better! read more

I've used Tatas a few times now, she's done several big pieces, such as coats, and every single item has been done to perfection. I found her to be reasonably priced, I tried taking a coat somewhere nearby and was shocked at how much they wanted. Not only am I leaving my garment in good hands, but I get it back within a week or less. She always has a smile on her face, and is a lovely person to talk with.
