My Mother, Brother and I toured the Assisted Living at Kennybrook Village for my Mother. When we first arrived, we were immediately impressed by the entryway, and the cozy fireplace in the lobby. The staff were so friendly and upbeat. Our tour guide was nice, knowledgeable and patient with us. They even had a wheelchair available, as my Mother didn't know if she could walk the entire tour.
We were first shown the model unit so we could envision it furnished. We then went to the unit that was available. It had a cute kitchenette, a decent sized living room (big enough for a couch, chair, tv, end table), a very large bedroom, walk-in closet, and bathroom. (My mom was very impressed with the bedroom and bathroom.) We visited the dining area which offers 2 meal choices each meal plus a 3rd option that is always available. The food is cooked on-site. They also have several smaller areas around the building on each floor for chatting, puzzles, reading, etc. They have a community room for crafts, exercises, games. And they have a private dining area you can reserve for a family gathering. They also have a beauty salon, fitness room, and a coffee shop with cookies!! And, if prescribed, they have a physical therapy room on site that is covered by insurance. They offer free transportation within a 15 mile radius and often go on off-site adventures, as well. They also provide weekly housekeeping (vacuuming, dusting, laundry, bed makng,) and will assist with ANYTHING the resident needs, whether it is medically related or not. The atmosphere is very welcoming and homey.
Prior to going, my Mom was not entirely sold on moving to a retirement community, however, I believe half way through the tour, she was ready to sign up! And actually has put in her application. We are looking forward to spending more time and getting to know everyone better. read more
