This leaves the patient to pick up the balance of what the insurance won't cover. Now that my husband and I are retired and will be living on a fixed income, we thought it best to switch to a "provider' dentist who accepts the payment the insurance company allows. As I said, love the practice, but can no longer afford to pay for services that are fully covered somewhere else. I give the Rawlinsons four stars for this reason.

But if you pay for dental insurance, there's no excuse. So, I make an effort to visit the dentist regularly to avoid future complications. As I mentioned, I hate taking time to go to the dentist. But, every time I've visited, it's been quick in-and-out. Their hours are convenient (yay for later appointments to fit my teacher schedule!) Dr. Renaud is incredibly professional yet kind. All staff, from receptionists to dental hygienists, have been helpful, efficient, and super friendly. Their office is clean and cozy. Two weeks went by, and silly me did not call to confirm/double check with them because I figured I was physically there and filled out all of my information. Additionally, there was no phone call from them either to confirm. I bet you can guess what happened next. I arrived to find that I was not on the schedule. They tried to offer me another appointment for September - a whole three months away. I just told them to forget it I will go somewhere else. My son came out of his appointment for the final portion and said I don't think the guy knew what he was doing at all. Prior to the last procedure both my wife and myself spoke with the office to ensure that we would not need any adjustment to his retainer after the procedure, while we waited for the next steps. Both people we spoke with assured us he would be fine. We were NOT fine. His retainer DID NOT fit and we were basically told "too bad". My son is a teenager and they essentially told us he was fine to be missing two front teeth for over a month. He spent his entire school vacation in his room until we were able to contact his orthodontist to fix his retainer. If they had told us the truth from the onset we would have had the retainer fixed that same day. After all that, we decided NOT to use the office they recommended for his teeth, and we were shocked (well not really) that the East Bay put in healing caps that were too small AND one of the implants was crooked! Thankfully the office we used took care of both issues. But when they called East Bay they were also shocked at how rude the lady on the phone was. Stay AWAY from this place!!! Not recommended at all.

After having been to a true Frankenstein dentist, Dr. Cardenas has been a breeze. The office staff are all very lovely and the dentist's demeanor is always pleasant. I have somewhat fragile teeth so I have had several fillings done by him and he always calms my fears of the worst. Never patronizing, just reassuring. He takes the time to figure out the best solution and filling type before starting but I will note that I do find myself having to ask him what he will be doing. But no matter how many questions I ask, even when I've asked him why he'll be doing something one way and not another, he always answers the questions satisfactorily. All I know is that I've always had a bit of fear of the dentist but I have never felt pain or discomfort during a visit with him. My husband and I have both been seeing Dr. Cardenas for a few years now and I find their prices to be exactly comparable to other dentists and their office hours are very accommodating with evening and Saturday appointment times.
