He seemed to know his job really well and was extremely informative when taking notice of something good, bad, or "just as is for what it is." He invited me to follow him the whole length of the way. I was expecting a lot of silence, or a "don't distract me" attitude but he kept on chatting away telling me what he was looking for, what he found, or what was still inconclusive. We were pretty sure the house never had oil heat, and we were planning to pass on the tank sweep. But he suggested we get one anyway just based on the furnace switch plate having the words "Oil Burner" on it. He said, "The person who installed the furnace may just have used the wrong switch plate, but at the same time they may have recycled the switch plate when converting to gas." He kept on suggesting to do a tank sweep based on that alone. He seemed so trustworthy with everything else that, I felt compelled to listen to him on that. Low and behold, towards the end of the basement inspection, he came across two more clues that the house had oil-based heat at one time. Though still inconclusive if it the tank is still buried I was impressed how he found that evidence. Tank sweep scheduled for this week. Pillar to Post held true to its name today!

He was very thorough, very helpful, and even told me how to do basic maintenance on the house to keep it in top shape when I own it. I brought my dad along and he talked shop with the inspector and between the two of them, they left no stone unturned. I got my inspection report first thing on Monday and was able to make a list of issues I would like addressed. Seriously, a great experience!

He also failed to flag damaged insulation and evidence of a rodent infestation in the attic. The inspection lasted a short 1.5 hours and was not thorough and communication was extremely poor. We only went with him because he used drones for roof inspections, but that proved to be worthless because he didn't even give an estimated age of the roof or its condition, until I followed up with him and asked days later. We are out well over $20k at this point, and he was completely uncooperative and unresponsive when we attempted to discuss all of the above missed issues. Do your research and go with someone more qualified, who actually cares.

When he arrived, he really took the time to listen to our concerns and even asked to see some photos to get a better idea of what we were dealing with. After taking a look, he explained that the issue was actually outside the scope of what he usually inspects. But instead of just walking away, he stuck around, explained everything clearly, and gave us some super helpful advice. You can tell John really knows his stuff. He was professional, honest, and didn't try to sell us on anything unnecessary. In fact, he insisted on not charging us, saying he likes to "sleep peacefully at night." That says a lot about his character. He even sent us detailed suggestions on how to handle the problem--what kind of work would be needed, the materials to use, and even what kind of handyman to look for. He also gave us a few referrals to get started. We were originally planning a much more expensive fix, but thanks to his knowledgeable advice, we are able to switch to a more practical option and hence cut the cost in half. We really appreciate his honesty and guidance. He is the kind of handyman you would like to work with, especially for people like us after working with various dishonest handman/plumbers...He is definitely someone we'd trust and would go to for our future home improvement projects.

Just a quick update to my previous review written on 9/26/2021…read more First, NOTHING HAS CHANGED about the positive review I wrote about John's services, however after some time has passed since we first met John, I do want to add that John is absolutely and truly one of those people who keeps his promise of "feel free to reach out to me in the future and I will get back to you on it". Despite having completed our home inspection many months ago, as we settled into our home, we realized small things here and there that we didn't notice earlier. Every time we encountered something new, we thought any one of these questions - What can be causing this? How did this happen? How can we fix this? Will this cost much? Is this a small or big problem? The bottom line was where do we go from there?! ... JOHN to the rescue! Every time we had a question, not often, but the few times we did, we took John up on his generous offer of reaching out to him and, NOT ONCE, did John fail to respond within 1 day! Not only has John been extremely cordial and professional with every communication we had with him, but he takes the time to write out detailed, technical and specific instructions on how we could resolve our home issues. Honestly, we would be so lost without his guidance and advice, but he has made our transition into our home less stressful.
