We stayed here with our tour group. There aren't many lodging options in the area. There's a lot of history in this hotel and I have a soft spot for historic old buildings. But while I appreciate its age, there are some limits to what I will accept as a quirk in an old building.
Our room was located just above the kitchen. The kitchen fan, which sounds very much like a jet engine, came on in the early morning and was not switched off until late into the night. This is not a quirk. This is a true annoyance. This kept us from sleeping well. The front desk staff promised us the chef turned it off by 9pm but we assured her that was not the case. We couldn't keep our windows open while the fan was running esp at night when we wanted to get some sleep, but we couldn't close the windows because of the heat. Fortunately we only stayed two nights.
I don't think this room should be a bedroom. It should be a storage room or something else. Anyone who stays in this room will post a negative review.
The room was obviously a twin bed room in which they pushed the beds together to make a king bed. The twin headboards nailed to the wall told me that. It was a rather large and spacious room and the bathroom was recently remodeled with a modern design. There are a few oddities with the bathroom -
- the faucet was installed too close to the edge of the sink so you end up splashing water on the counter
- the shower doors have a gap where water leaks onto the floor
- there are no shelves in the shower to put soap and shampoo on so you have to put it all on the floor
- there are no hooks or towel bars anywhere
- the overhead light is switched on using a string hanging from the ceiling
I have the impression that it's not quite finished.
The actual bedroom was nice enough with plenty of space, a desk and storage. It would've been fine if the kitchen fan wasn't running nearly nonstop. The hotel itself is in a great location right by the river but if I ever return, I will ask for a different room.
I also have to add that the restaurant staff are wonderful. I have a dairy allergy and they were very helpful with navigating the menu choices available to me.
WiFi in this hotel was pretty non-existent in our room. The best place to get WiFi is in the lounge next to the piano. When we were there, the ceiling in the bar had a leak from the rains but fortunately, we were still able to order drinks. read more
