I have driven by it before though and have done what everyone else does and slow right down while going past this place, neck craning to see how lovely it all looks, and then you go home and look it up on a website and see what all the rooms look like inside. If you were famous it really would be a perfect get away, you're in the middle of an ancient oak forest, surrounded by trees (obviously!) and your really out of the way being down in Glengarriff anyway where the locals wouldn't really care who you are, well, they would have a good natter about you in the local but I'm sure they wouldn't be asking for autographs. Of course you would have to watch out for the people trying to get a glimpse of the lodge you have rented however! Why did I write this review as if my audience were made up of famous people, maybe it is! That's a nice thought J

The setting itself is so unique and food on the day was absolutely gorgeous. We opted for the 'Mad Hatters Tea Party' and a selection of canapes on arrival (the chicken satay is to die for!) and then sat down for a mouthwatering five course meal. The day went flawlessly and although the weather was a little bit against us (when isn't it?) it took nothing away from the day whatsoever. We can't recommend The Rectory enough - a huge thank you to all the staff for making our wedding day such a memprable occasion.

Sure I had tourist maps, and county maps; truth is, I was naive to the amount of adventure I could handle. The last bus for Dingle had left minutes ago. Weathered by loneliness in a foreign land, I made the fateful decision to walk from Tralee Co. Kerry, to Dingle, forty-seven miles away. A lone petrol station; "You're lucky I'm here, I was just about to shut down," said the petrol station attendant. Unfortunately, he could not give me a ride and added, "you'll be lucky if someone sees you, if anyone passes you by." He was right, the sky was black, I could only see a few meters in front of me. Discouraged, I continued on, ready to hold my thumb out for the next passerby. Every five-minutes, then ten-minutes, until no cars passed for forty-five minutes. Eventually luck returned, a couple in their early 20's on their way to dingle offered me a ride. Turns out the petrol station attendant let them know I was looking for a ride, if they hadn't known I was out there they would not have seen me, it was just too dark. Never was a bed more comfortable! -Once a Hunting Lodge in the 1700's, the Ballintaggart Hostel is now a gorgeous hostel that accommodates over 100 guests and has double occupancy rooms available per. There is also a camping site for R/V's and tents on the property, which I cannot rate since I stayed in the dorm lodging.

We enjoyed a 30-minute demonstration of dog handling skills as a local sheep-farmer and his two Border Collies worked their magic for our viewing pleasure. We saw these two incredibly trained dogs race up a steep hill into an upper meadow, round up a herd of sheep, escort them as they raced down the hill, and then paraded them around a fenced area right in front of us. It was incredibly entertaining! Other sights on the farm complex are a petting zoo and some serious artifacts- old famine cottages.
