The Rectory - Marquee Tables and Seating Setup

    The Rectory

We got married in The Rectory in March of this year having set the date for our big last September…read more Although this may be seen as short notice we can safely say that having the knowledgeable and helpful staff (Michelle & Nicola) on hand to advise us made the planning process VERY straightforward. The setting itself is so unique and food on the day was absolutely gorgeous. We opted for the 'Mad Hatters Tea Party' and a selection of canapes on arrival (the chicken satay is to die for!) and then sat down for a mouthwatering five course meal. The day went flawlessly and although the weather was a little bit against us (when isn't it?) it took nothing away from the day whatsoever. We can't recommend The Rectory enough - a huge thank you to all the staff for making our wedding day such a memprable occasion.

Right I'll admit i have never stayed here, in fact i don't think I'll ever stay here! Don't get me…read morewrong though I would love to rent this house and stay in it for a week but it is super duper expensive, we are talking, famous people expensive here. I have driven by it before though and have done what everyone else does and slow right down while going past this place, neck craning to see how lovely it all looks, and then you go home and look it up on a website and see what all the rooms look like inside. If you were famous it really would be a perfect get away, you're in the middle of an ancient oak forest, surrounded by trees (obviously!) and your really out of the way being down in Glengarriff anyway where the locals wouldn't really care who you are, well, they would have a good natter about you in the local but I'm sure they wouldn't be asking for autographs. Of course you would have to watch out for the people trying to get a glimpse of the lodge you have rented however! Why did I write this review as if my audience were made up of famous people, maybe it is! That's a nice thought J

The setting is incredible, nestled in the middle of an ancient woodland on an island in a river - it doesn't get much better than this. Oh wait, it was originally built by Lord Bantry and he hosted people like Wordsworth and Thackeray here...

Attached to the hotel is the Forta Golf course, which I was told has hosted some major golf tournaments. There is a wildlife park, tennis courts, football training pitches and the island even has its own train station. There are several trails which you can walk or run around, if you are that way inclined. The island is very green and picturesque, the sun rise is particularly good if you have one of the front facing bedrooms. The bedrooms are very well appointed with all the bits you would expect, large bed, desk area, sofa chairs and ample wardrobe space if you have lots of clothes to store. The hotel staff could not do more for you. Yes I know it is the service industry but they all seemed genuinely happy to help, even with very very mundane things. Now I was there over a weekend and they had one wedding party on the Friday and one in the Saturday night, if you are staying on the 1st floor you will hear the music into the early hours, be warned. The food was ok, although we were stuck on the tournament menu which was not very good but looking at the food served to other guests it looked good. They have a very good bar with good bar staff, plenty of Irish whiskey's to sample. Our Irish counter parts were in there one night until 5am!! A good venue with high quality accommodation. Would definitely come back here.

    Westpark Shannon

If your having a conference in Shannon, or limerick, (sure they are practically the same thing)…read morethis is a venue that i would recommend. There are a couple of things that are important when it comes to any conference, the temperature of the room, you don't want to be falling asleep with heat or shivering with cold. How noisy is the room, there is nothing worse than hearing a bunch of people laughing outside when your presenting. And lastly, Natural daylight, this is not a casino you're in, you want to see what the weather is like, you want to feel like you're still alive and not totally disconnected from the world! Westpark Shannon does all of this for you. My Favourite bit of the room we were in (a few times) was the fact that two sides of the room had floor to ceiling windows that made you feel totally awake and refreshed all day, it was brilliant! The second thing I will say about this venue is the canteen. Now, I have frequently said that different staff in different places are really nice but i would take back all those comments just to make the lady in this place stand out ahead of the rest. We were here for breakfast and it was like having your mother around ensuring you got everything you wanted just the way you want it. For lunch she was concerned about feeding everyone and making sure everyone was happy. She was also up for a bit of chat and was so friendly, no request was too much. I think she was probably in charge in the restaurant and I can see why because she had the place running smoothly and she was the one thing that would make me want to go back to that canteen as well. Even when we all wanted to have our after lunch tea upstairs in the conference room she was more than happy to bring all the cups and coffee decanters and biscuits up to the room for us. An amazing woman, I cannot compliment her enough and while Westpark Shannon would mark fairly highly anyway I will be giving the majority of my stars purely because of this lady.
