As a saltwater angler the drift boat/indicator fishing techniques were new to me, but Mike's instruction got me up to speed quickly and we were catching fish right away. Mike is thoroughly in-tune with the river and ecosystem. This knowledge showed as he was constantly making adjustments to give us the best chance of hooking up. His skills managing the boat and 2 anglers battling fish were also impressive. After easy check-in, we went to our cabin and was greeted with dirty spatula on the porch. Not a good sign, but we remained hopeful. However, as we entered the cute little cabin, we saw dead bugs on the window sill, the shower curtain was wet from the previous occupants, and the couch was stained & dirty. As two women travelling, what concerned us most was the various 'characters' walking throughout the property, who we think were either fisherman or workers from the local outfitters. Not the wholesome environment we thought Gwin's Lodge would offer. For pros, the bed was comfy and the front desk was friendly. I can see how the lodge would be good enough for some guests. Sad to say, I'm not one of them. I got through the night pretending I was camping and left early the next morning. Other than above, the roadhouse restaurant is well worth the food stop and the gift/gear shop is stocked with all you'll need for your stay in Cooper Landing.

The are a number of nice cabins tucked away behind the main buildings towards the mountain- super nice set-up and I look forward to recommending it to folks traveling to the Kenai Peninsula! My family had the trip of a lifetime! The cabin and property is gorgeous, well appointed, comfortable, affordable, quiet, quaint and in the perfect location. The days on the water fishing with Dave were INCREDIBLE! He is patient, kind, funny, engaging and has an amazing amount of institutional knowledge about fishing the Kenai Peninsula area. We were originally planning to fish for two days on the Kasilof River for Silver Salmon and then one day on the Kenai River fly fishing for trout. When the conditions were not up to his standards, he pivoted and changed the plan to make sure everyone in our group had the best experience possible. I will most definitely be back to fish with Dave again and stay at Alaska Heavenly Lodge and I highly recommend him for either your fishing adventure and/or lodging while in the Kenai Peninsula area.

They really do more than "put you in boat", with high level knowledge of the area we left early to get to a good fishing spot where the salmon were running. Dallin was our guide and he was amazing! With super high energy, zest for life, and a passion for fishing, he made our day so enjoyable. The gear they provided kept us dry, and it was the perfect amount of time to be on the Kenai River for a novice to both learn and try to catch some fish.
