What a great experience for my family! We felt fortunate to have had Mike as our guide. We had never been salmon fishing before, and he made it easy and fun for us. His communication before our trip was excellent. During our time together, he was patient and a wonderful teacher. He knew how important it was for my teenage boys to catch fish that day, so he met us before sunrise to make absolutely sure we had the best spot on the river. My wife, who is not really into fishing, enjoyed just sitting in the boat and hearing Mike's stories about life in Alaska. He filleted all our fish on the spot and had everything ready for us to take to the fish processing center for shipping. He's a true professional and a great human. We had an incredible 4 days of fishing the Kenai River, it was truly a once in a lifetime Alaskan Angling Adventure. As a saltwater angler the drift boat/indicator fishing techniques were new to me, but Mike's instruction got me up to speed quickly and we were catching fish right away. Mike is thoroughly in-tune with the river and ecosystem. This knowledge showed as he was constantly making adjustments to give us the best chance of hooking up. His skills managing the boat and 2 anglers battling fish were also impressive. Mike was an amazing charter master and guide.  I was set up on three different trips on 3 different boats. I was set up with an amazing cabin with an insane view! First trip was on the Kesilof fishing for salmon with Felix as my guide. Felix was too nitch and i caught my king salmon limit and 1 sockeye.  Second trip booked was a halibut trip out of Homer with  Maverick charters. Had an amazing day caught 10 halibut and left with the 2 allowed. But the best part of the trip was with Mike fishing the reserve on the Kenai.  Was one of the best days of fishing of my life and he was an excellent instructor as well as im not the best with fly rods and i did very well.  Caught some of the biggest trout ive ever caught and more than i can remember.  We snapped pics of few but released them all fast so they went back healthy.  Mike even put me on some sockeyes.  Mike provided a nice healthy lunch for each trip.  I cant praise him enough on his professionalism.  I will be back again to fish with him. Four of us had Mike organize a week-long trip. He did everything to provide us with a once in a lifetime experience. We had Mike guide us for three of the days. He knew the best fishing spots and we caught more than enough salmon to bring home. He also gave us a day drift fishing for trout and I caught the largest rainbow in my life. Mike also arranged a float plane trip. He hooked us up with a great guide and pilot and we caught our limit of sockeye salmon within 2 hours. Finally, Mike scheduled us to go salt water fishing for two days from Homer. The Captain of this boat, again, was excellent and we caught our limit of halibut each day and also caught king salmon. My father and I have planned for years to take a fishing trip to Alaska. We had never been to Alaska, I had never fly fished, and I can promise you that without Mike's guidance we would have been totally lost. Mike met us at our hotel, ready to roll at 3:45am. Honestly I thought it was a little early, but who am I to question the guide? After arriving, gearing up, and the basic instructions we were on the river fishing. It quickly became apparent why Mike wanted to be there as early as possible, the Russian River gets crowded and if you're not early you end up fishing the leftovers. Our day was awesome. He so efficiently taught me, a guy who had never held a fly rod before, how to fly fish for sockeye salmon, that we hit our limit before 8:00am! We are beyond grateful for our experience. We visited the Kenai River area on the family trip just before the boys were to get back to school. From talking to Mike a couple of months before the trip, I could tell that he was one who really knew the Kenai inside out and could tailor the trip to what I wanted - which was for my teenage boys to enjoy the experience of a guided float on the Upper Kenai. As we approached the day of the trip, I told Mike that my boys were late starters and he was quick to accommodate and had us begin mid-morning. As my wife (who wasn't fishing that day) was shuttling Mike back to the launch, he gave her great tips on things to do while we were out on our trip. I really appreciated that as she had a good day hiking and sightseeing around Cooper's Landing (something that I didn't expect but was pleasantly surprised). Although my sons have fly fished before, the flow and depth of the Kenai required a nymphing setup that required a bit of finesse and technique for a good presentation. Mike's patience and persistence in teaching and correcting them was the key to them having a good time as both of my boys were able to get into quite a few fish, despite the fact that we started behind most of the boats that day. I'm an avid fly fisherman but this was my first time going for reds. The water was high and the fishing was tough. On top of that, our buddy's flight was delayed and we didn't get on the water til after 7am. All signs pointed to a disappointing day. We fished hard til about 1pm with no signs of action. Mike offered to switch to trout if we wanted, but we were committed. By 3pm it paid off and we finally earned our dinner. Mike was very positive, helpful, and well prepared. Flexible for what you want to do, and was just as excited as we were to be out there, even after all these years. He even gave us some of his personal home smoked salmon jerkey. Came to Alaska to visit family with my fishing obsessed boyfriend knowing we needed to take him fishing and we couldn't have picked a better guide to take us. My Dad gifted us this trip after going out with Mike serval times in the past and raved about him so we knew we were in for a treat. He did not disappoint, we had an amazing time on the river. My Dad and I have fished with Mike for 5 or 6 years ago. Mike also guided my Mom and Dad on a separate trip. They were 74 yrs old then and Mom was concerned about floating the river. Mike was great and she still talks about how patient, positive and FUN he was on the trip. Mike works harder than any other guide we have seen to put clients on fish and to ensure that the float is fun and safe. Our two trips with Mike in 2018 were epic. Mike put Dad on over a dozen bows over 22 inches and ended the day (literally the last 10 min of the float) with a 28" bow for me. (He was more excited than I was) Funny thing is that when we arrived back at the Hutch (great place to stay in Cooper Landing by the way), we talked with another guy who had floated the same day on the Middle (we saw him several times during the day) with another guide. He had not caught a single bow and only a couple of dollies. His guide had said that the fish were not biting due to an "egg glut". That may have been true, but Mike had put us on over 30 fish and worked constantly changing egg patterns and finding pockets of active fish. Something to be said for local knowledge... Came to AK sort of last minute and knew I wanted to do salmon fishing while there. Out of all the places In the Kenai/Seward this outfitter was the most straight forward and accommodating. Their prices are very fair and they can assist you with processing your fish. Had to endure an entire day trip with our nine year old but Mike (the guide) was very patient with her and great with catering to get. We came really early on the second salmon run but Mike made sure we caught some salmon. All in all great trip for fishing and wildlife viewing. read more

We just went on a guided fishing trip with Alaska Angling Adventures out of Cooper Landing. Mike (our guide) was the best there is! He gave us great directions to the meeting spot, met us there and we traveled together to the boat launch location. Mike handled everything ... and had all the gear we could ever need to have a great day fishing. His gear was top notch, even the waders were comfortable. We spent several hours casting for sockeye salmon. Although Mike cautioned that you cannot guarantee a good day catching ... we did have a great day with his help. Although both of us had fished in the past, neither of us had been fly fishing. No worries. Mike gave us really clear instruction and kept giving us helpful tips, including while we were bringing in our fish. He even cleaned and filleted the salmon for us. Although we caught our salmon limit early in the day, he let us try out trout fishing from the boat. When we were done with that he just let us enjoy the river landscape while we traveled back to were the car was parked. The day was great ... couldn't have been better. Great company ...
