Finally made it over for a dinner plate after work on a Wednesday and I was in out in about 15 minutes.....impressive as I was prepared for a longer wait. They don't take orders over the phone, only in person and cash only. I had the whiting and wing plate with cabbage, potato salad and rice was included with cornbread. My next visit was also during the week but this time I had baked chicken and it was ready in like 5 minutes. Everything was seasoned well and simply amazing!

Amazing food, fried chicken fresh & hot, mac & cheese was smooth & cheesy just like grandma's. Meatloaf was super flavorful and the portions were huge. Definitely worth the trip, a true neighborhood gem. Be prepared to pay with cash. No complaints.

Walked in, it was very smokey. It was definitely something going on with the grease. It was so bad people eyes started burning if you stayed inside to wait. Sides were good. Chicken wasn't so good. Think it was time to change that grease. Fish was fried to over hard. Probably because the grease. Definitely would try them again. . Love their lemonade and sweet tea.

I finally got the chance to try Ken Cooks today. From the moment I walked in, until I left, I was shown nothing but kindness and hospitality. I ordered the fried chicken, macaroni, and broccoli casserole. Each entree comes with either rice or mashed potatoes; I chose mashed potatoes. After about 10 minutes, my food was done. Ms. Ken let me know that there was a mixup and I was given rice on my plate instead of mashed potatoes but she gave me container of potatoes with the meal. When I opened the plate... wow! It was a work of art and smelled just as good. After sampling everything, I knew why so many people recommended this place. I really hated I had to go back to work because a meal of that caliber deserves a nap. Ms. Ken seemed like a sweet and genuine person and I wish her the absolute best. I'll definitely be coming back!

I was excited to try Ken Cooks from hearing about it from other posts and following her. It was my cheat day and I was ready to indulge. It was busy from taking orders to restocking. I could hear her from the Kitchen thanking folks for being patient. That made me chuckle cause we really wasn't waiting long to me. I enjoyed the chicken wings the most from flavor to crunch. Again this was my cheat day so the salt and sugar was more noticeable for me from the fish, greens and sweet potato pie. I'll try the cake next time. The corn bread didn't even make it home. The strawberry lemonade was so good but I needed to cut with water and once I added vodka it was perfect. Nonetheless it was tasty and supporting a black business was a win. Everybody in there was hustling. I've shared with friends and I'd go back for another cheat day. Till then - back to kale and grilled stuff...

Fried salmon over a bed of rice, Mac & chz, candied yams, cornbread & tropical lemonade

Hospitality was great, acknowledged as soon as you walk in the door, throughout your meal & before you walk out the door. Food is DELICIOUS‼ Portions are enough for a doggy bag & the price is worth it. There is a wait because the owner is also the only cook & everything is cooked to order. I love not having to worry about if my food will be fresh or not. Keep rockin' out Ken SN: If you haven't been, I can vouch for her & you should try it for yourself.

Great food, wonderful and friendly customer service. The quality and quantity is emasculated. Had enough food for seconds. Thank you

The customer service is top notch, facility is clean and the food is even better. No other soul food restaurant in Charlotte can compare.

I've never eaten fried salmon before, it was crunchy and the fish was moist.

I attended a wedding that was catered by Catering by Tracy and the food was definitely decent. One…read morething that was incredibly frustrating was the pineapple on the fruit kabobs still had the outside skin on it making it just about impossible to eat during the cocktail hour. Overall the fruit was amazing and fresh though, just a bit impractical with the pineapple. Now the biggest reason I was unhappy with their catering was because when the dessert was served, they cut very few pieces and had them on the table for guests to grab. That's great, but those pieces were quickly gone and nobody was serving more pieces and the caterer didn't leave the little dessert plates on the table for people to serve themselves either. Secondly, while we sat down for dessert, the photographers yelled out that they wanted everyone on the dance floor for a quick group photo. After the photo was taken, I get back to my table and me and my husbands dessert is gone. The caterer was clearing all the tables as we took that photo which was so annoying since it took me forever to get a plate of dessert to begin with! Anyway, the foods not bad, just the way a few things were done was definitely the most memorable part of the wedding for me unfortunately.

As a foodie transplant from the West Coast, walking into Reid's immediately reminded me of a…read morebeloved high-end grocer back home--something along the lines of Draeger's: beautifully curated, family-owned, and designed to feel like a destination rather than just a place to shop. There's a real sense of history here. From what I understand, Reid's is one of the oldest grocers in Charlotte, and that legacy shows in the details. The rich green tile, classic signage, and thoughtfully designed layout create an elevated, almost European-style market experience. It feels polished, intentional, and welcoming all at once. What stands out: * The store is beautifully merchandised and carefully curated with specialty and seasonal items you don't always find elsewhere. * The wine bar and café concept make this more than a grocery stop--it's a place to linger. I've enjoyed flights, tastings, and brunch on the patio, and each visit has felt like a small occasion. * Location-wise, it really depends on which store you're visiting. The SouthPark and Myers Park locations have easy, convenient parking, and there's also a newer location in Ballantyne (near Pineville). The Uptown locations, while not necessarily "easy parking," are incredibly walkable--perfect if you live, work, or have meetings nearby. If you're already Uptown, this is a fantastic stop to pick up elevated items for a beautiful dinner--think wine, specialty cheeses, or even something indulgent like caviar to round things out. One thing I appreciate is that Reid's doesn't try to be everything to everyone. It's not an organic-focused market like Whole Foods, and that's okay--it serves a different purpose. The clientele here tends to be people looking for specialty ingredients, elevated prepared foods, and a more curated shopping experience. Many shoppers probably visit both stores depending on their needs, and I find myself doing the same. When Reid's really shines: During the holidays and special seasons. Their selection of unique, festive, and hard-to-find items makes it a go-to for entertaining or finding something a little extra special. Overall, Reid's feels like a true Charlotte institution--elegant, distinctive, and consistently well executed. It's the kind of place that makes grocery shopping feel enjoyable again, and I'm looking forward to continuing to explore more of what they offer as I keep eating my way through Charlotte. Bottom line: A beautifully curated local market with history, charm, and a destination-worthy wine bar--perfect for specialty shopping, brunch, and seasonal finds.

Only downside is the noodles are not the bigger/thicker. Service is fast. You line up and they serve you. It's a quick to go spot. Ambiance is chill. Note: food is pricey for lunch Will have to stop by here some other time.
