I happened upon Kelly's Pub while searching for restaurants local to the Crystal River area. At first I wasn't sure what to think because it's located inside a shopping center instead of the usual waterfront seafood spots that I normally frequent. However, I couldn't have been more impressed to find all of my expectations surpassed. From the amazing service from our waitress Julie to the lobster bisque that rivals a delicacy from Maine, I am so excited to say that this place is worthy of five stars. Traveled to Crystal River for a 3 day fishing trip and I'm sad to say I found Kelly's on the second night. When I say sad I'm referring to missing out on a 3rd chance to stop in for a meal. My wife and I ate at Kelly's on Saturday and Sunday evening. Both times we tried different things off the menu, aside from the rueben egg rolls which we had to have both visits (so good). They have a great menu with a great variety to choose from and the mixed drinks were fantastic as well. We will definitely be back and highly recommend. Ponzu oysters are delicious. It's a little weird that it's an Irish bar serving oysters, but they're actually really great. They make a whole array of oysters with different treatments. The drinks are pretty good, but it IS an Irish bar. My cocktail has a fly in it. They replaced it when I noticed. They're not paying a ton of attention to the drinks. The owner came out to say hi. They care and it shows, but it's still just a bar. Order a beer, order all the oysters, and then skip out. Don't get anything else. read more

Excellent food but may need a bar rescue...bar area is way too large for staff to effectively manage ( only 1 bartender); several wait staff (for tables) were standing around that could have been assisting at the bar. Kelly's is located in a strip mall, so the outside impression is not great. BUT, don't let that stop you. First , very friendly staff makes you feel like you're in a neighborhood bar. Second, great selection of beer, wine and mixed drinks. Third, and best, great food and good variety. I had never had grilled oysters. So I tried the Kilpatrick version- Worcestershire sauce and bacon. There are 7 or 8 choices, so try one that sounds good to you. I also had the Shepherds Pie which had lamb rather then hamburger like many places. (perhaps a little too much potatoes). My wife had the Dubliner sandwich which is nicely shaved corned beef.. Wow! I love fish and chips, and this is some of the best I've had. Their buffalo wings are slammin. My husband loved his lobster bisque, and his steak sandwich was huge and delicious. Sat at the bar, the bartender seemed mad to take an order the whole time we were there. Service was painfully slow. Saw several carry out orders incomplete or totally wrong. Lots of customers pissed. PHENOMENAL experience and food!!!! We came in from out of town and made a quick decision to come in because they were open later than the other restaurants in town. What a fantastic decision! We had the Calamari, which came with a delicious coconut curry sauce. It was an unexpected, pleasant pairing. We also order the Chargrilled Oysters, and their Tenderloin Special which came in a blue cheese sauce. DROOOOL. Highly recommend it! Perfect amount of blue cheese and topped with sweet balsamic drizzle. The beef was extremely soft and juicy. One of the owners, Jenn, kept popping by to check in on our experience. Should have given you 1 star but don't like to do that to any business. Very upset with your staff my husband and I came a few weeks ago for the first time. We sat down against the wall seating and not 1 person even acknowledged us. Wow, we sat there for 20 minutes or more and it wasn't even busy. The servers were just interested in talking to their friends. Not even a hello from anyone. Well, your loss we are great tippers and big-time foodies. Time for staff training on customer servicece. We go to Kelly's 3-4 times monthly, the other night being the last time. In short, one of the lobster rolls orderd had a real strong taste to it, my daughter had only one bite when the waitress asked how everything was. I told her of the strong taste in the lobster roll, and she seemed to ignore what was said until we went to pay the bill. At this time a second bite was taken from this fowl tasting roll. The waitress said she would have to talk to her manager about the issue. She returned minutes later and said she could do NOTHING, we paid the bill and left .we will not ever go back and will be telling anyone e who will listen about the shity ass service we received. read more

Ignore that this looks like a strip mall bar food joint. When we pulled up, my guy looked at me like, really? Yes, really. If you're a foodie, go here. If you're not a foodie, go here anyway and experience what made from scratch, truly well done food tastes like. Also, their prices are cheap for the quality of food you get. Now, on to the food. Being from New England, we know lobster. The lobster roll was one of the best we've ever had- and we've had a lot. Herby, unctuous, and a seasoning that we couldn't identify- but would steal if we could. The lobster fries were perfectly balanced flavor goodness. Our only suggestion would be to use shoestring fries instead of steak fries so that the flavor isn't competing with the thick potato. A minor critique because they were excellent. The chargrilled oysters were delicious and the scampi were okay, but if you're really into oysters, they're probably both great. The lobster bisque was done right, and not everywhere can say that. Finally, the key lime pie was creamy, tart, and had zest throughout- on a buttery graham cracker crust. The owner, Jennifer, came over to introduce herself and her husband, Josh, is running the kitchen. Who knew that some of the best lobster we've ever had would be found so far from Maine? Y'all, this place is phenomenal! I was looking for a dive bar with decent food but stumbled upon a culinary masterpiece which happens to have a nice selection of spirits. I'll start with the steak-cut calamari. This calamari is like none I'd had before. It's just bit bigger than a french fry and about as long. The breading used was perfectly crispy and perfectly seasoned to allow the calamari's sweetness to shine through. The texture beats ALL the calamari I've ever had. Tender with little chewiness but fried to perfection. Next, the wedge salad. The ingredients were crisp and cold. The tomatoes were all sliced exactly the same size. Yes, I pay that much attention to detail. I never would have ordered blue cheese dressing but it comes on it and I forgot to change it. I'm glad I didn't. I ordered the Corned Beef and Cabbage entree. I don't want to sound TOO critical. The flavors were there but the beef is "pulled" rather than sliced so it made for a strange texture. The cabbage tastes great but was just a smidge undercooked so it had more of a bite than I like. The potatoes'n gravy were a slam dunk. My dinner date got the peel'n eat shrimp. I almost didn't peel it. The Cajun flavor was spot on. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and paired well with my beverage. Last but not least, the service was OUT OF THIS WORLD! The wait staff actually took the time to kinda chat a little. A few minutes into a conversation with us, I learned that the young lady we were talking to was the owner. Took the family New Year's Eve to visit Crystal River and we wanted some seafood but our favs were closed. Based on reviews, we gave here a try. What a pleasant surprise!! Food was superb and our server (for a party of 9) was beyond excellent. Peel and eat shrimp were seasoned perfectly. Even the brown butter and cocktail sauce hit the mark. Others in our group had a variety of the chargrilled oysters and they raved about them. Everything was great. The interior was a chill atmosphere with lots of tvs (lots) and an excellent tap selection. When we head back, we have a new favorite now. Wish it was closer to St. Pete. read more

Unfortunately, my misfortunes and endless vagabondage have wound up turning into a year long gridlock in this culinary Sahara. Subsisting on fast food and homogeneous chain restraunts with all their counterfeit smiles and contrived enthusiasm, becoming more and more desperate for a genuine and authentic dive into the gluttonous underbelly of the southeast America's. As I stumbled around the Kings Bay area deliriously thumbing through Google and yelp reviews like a coke fiend looking for the final remnant of last week's party, I found myself pathetically drawn toward the dark alley between Chillys and Applebees. I was on the verge of tears when I approached those warm neon lights accompanied by the din of superficial exuberance from spiked frosted haircuts wrapped in American fighter t-shirts. I ran, with a rush of abdication and self loathing. Wandering through the back alleys of shame and disappointment, I found myself in a moment of catharsis, I realized my only true saviour in this black hole of substandard "new York" delicantessens and faithful greesy fast food joints; alcohol. Fearing another drab mai tai, or long Island ice tea I wandered to the warm, quaint, and inviting store front of Kelly's Half Shell Pub. I stumbled through the doors, thirsty for some reprieve, a respite from the blase food scene of the purgatory that is crystal river. I ordered two shots, whiskey, and a beer. A shotgun blast of relief. Dizzy with satisfaction, I can barely recall the beautiful barmaid utter the most common place phrase "would you like to see a menu?" Before I could come up with a reasonable excuse, there it was, simple and elegant in its decadance. Rather than rambling off ender item in list form, I'll cut to the chase. There is not enough to say about how poorly this place is run. We waited 20 minutes to get even a drink order. (We changed tables because we thought maybe we were in the bar section) They told us 15 minutes after our order was taken that they were out of the quesadilla and the scallops. Then as we were leaving heard someone ordering them from the waitress that told us they were out. The amount of time you have to wait for anything is ridiculous when there are multiple servers and only 5 or 6 tables. The food was ok but not overwhelming. We will not be returning. The Poutain was like I remembered it as a kid... the corned beef and cabbage very good... not crazy about the management.. it is corporate style which I hate... our server very busy ( 10 top) ... no one stepped in to help... Apparently... no one but the bar tender can make a drink and she was MIA for 15 min??? ( empty bar) So had to wait ... and the bartender must also be the one that does the cashing out... because again.. MIA for 15 min. We went during opening week and it was busy but the staff was still very friendly and efficient. My wife got the Sashimi and was very happy. I got the shepherds pie and it was excellent also. My only recommendation is they might consider making the shepherds pie a little larger in quantity. The black cast iron skillet it is cooked and served in is approximately a six inch iron skillet and the shepherds pie is approximately one inch thick. The only reason for my size suggestion is the $12 price tag on a fairly small serving size. The ingredients in shepherds pie are not that expensive to make and a larger person with a healthier appetite (like me) will wish there was a little more. They do have a great beer selection with many Irish beers on tap. Happy hour is from 2:30pm to 6:30pm daily. And they do have a mixed drink bar for higher octane beverages..... read more

We stopped at Kelly's for lunch on our first day in Crystal River. I have to say, it was the best restaurant we visited in our 4 days in town. Started off with a dozen raw oysters, and they were huge and so tasty. After that, my wife had the wedge salad and I had the wagyu burger. Both were fantastic. The was one piece of fish ( which was small and tasted good) but the fries are poor. They only offer pre-seasoned frozen fries. Asked for them well done (they weren't). Also thought they'd be fresh. Entertaining folks from out of town on a Monday night- most restaurants are closed on Monday- I had a dilemma! Enter Kelly's- a little place tucked away on a little strip. Aesthetically plain, beer themed, tons of TV screens dedicated to sports, a small but impressive menu, ice cold quality drafts, plus a full bar. This place is immaculate. Huge trays of fresh oysters sitting on a bed of ice, large fresh shrimp, good portions of fish & chips, nice size artisan roast beef sandwiches and a shepards pie to die for. Lobster Bisque and loaded potato soup omg so good ! This place is a jewel hidden among sub-par fodder. It was a perfect experience. Our waiter Eric made everything awesome!
