The only drawback for us, was they only have Pino Grigio for wine , but boy did they make it up with the food. The combo platter for appetizers was the best, also you can never go wrong with a basket of bacon. Dinner included Shepherd's Pie, very hot and very good, Pepperoni and Mushroom pizza, just a side note, they don't use fresh mushrooms, and that's ok, the pizza was still good, and the Philly Dip. So good, tender and flavorful with the onions and peppers, and the au jus for dipping just adds more delicious flavor to the sandwich. Your able have a conversation at the table without having to shout, but it also wasn't busy The bartenders/servers were amazing. We're looking to come and check out their fish fry at some point.

The place does a good job with the decor of an Irish bar with the woods, stone fireplace, windows and light fixtures etc. I ordered a spicy Bloody Mary to start and I looked over the menu but I remembered from my first visit that they have a burger of what ever so I asked what it currently was and it's a Swiss patty melt on marbled rye with choice of side, onion straws is a personal favorite of mine so yes please. My food came quickly before I could even make a dent into my decent spicy Bloody Mary which had two olives as a garnish, weak presentation at best. The place wasn't busy at all and my server/bartender didn't do a great job at taking care of me and I waited 10 minutes at least for a box and a check after I was clearly done with my meal. The Swiss patty melt looked delicious with a cold pickle, onion straws and what looked like 1000 island dressing on the side. The pickle was a nice size with decent crunch wise. The onion straws were perfect with a light breading, tasty/thin cooked in relatively fresh oil. The Swiss patty melt was cooked perfectly rare with a char grill flavor, melty Swiss cheese, translucent onions with some crunch on perfectly toasted marble rye bread. Overall the service could have been better and yah I could have ordered an Irish staple but I was thoroughly satisfied with with the Bloody and burger of the month.

I understand that people come here mostly for drinks, but they have tables for guests to also order food, which is what we did. My husband ordered a beer and the guacamole burger and I ordered the souvlaki. The beer was fine and while the burger was not the best, it was decent. The guacamole was little bit off, but at least it was a good sized portion. When the souvlaki came out, I noticed it was missing the Greek salad. When I pointed this out to the server, she told me that it did not come with the salad. I politely corrected her and told her that's what the menu stated so I should get my salad because that's what was advertised. She informed me that's not correct. So, I ate the souvlaki. It was okay, a little dry and the rice tasted like instant rice with lots of oil. I looked at the menu later and it did come with salad. It Is disappointing that the server did not believe me and was not informed about the menu. I was still charged full price for my meal despite her never bringing me my salad. I felt that was unfair. I hope that in the future they can improve this place.

When I walked in at 4:30pm the place was packed and very loud, to the point that I thought I walked in on a private party. After making sure that wasn't the case, I found a open seat out of the bar area. Their baseball bat appetizer (egg rolls with beef and cheese inside) reminded me of the cheeseburger shillelaghs that I like from Mo's Irish Pub, so I ordered those as well as hickory smoke BBQ wings and a BYO burger with extra American cheese and lettuce, which came with fries. Last time I was at Mo's the shillelaghs had three (or six when cut in half) to an order, so Dale Z's gives you less baseball bats per order with only two (or four when cut in half). They're fairly comparable, but I like that Mo's gives you sour cream with theirs compared to ranch or marinara at Dale Z's. The wings were good. I usually prefer breaded to grilled wings both for the crunchy texture and grill flavor can sometimes overpower the sauce or rub that's used. The hickory smoke BBQ wasn't going to be overpowered that day, yet it allowed the chicken to have its moments too. The burger, which I mostly ordered just to reach the $30 minimum for the deal I was using, ended up being the star. The cheese was gooey, the seasoning complemented the chargrilled flavor of the patty well, and it was cooked to a perfect medium like I ordered. Really a fantastic burger. The fries needed a little salt and pepper, but weren't bad as a side.

Great Milwaukee "neighborhood" place, which I'm so lucky Riverwest abounds in. Sure, I'm also known…read moreto frequent newer, sometimes more "hipster-y" bars and restaurants, but part of my heart will always belong to the neighborhood tavern. You can drink beer, you can get a good meal, you can watch a game on TV, you can stumble in to use the ATM during a street festival (or more ordinary nocturnal adventures.) But what really distinguishes a good neighborhood place is the regulars. I like a place where I see the same people a lot, especially if they're of all different ages and social circles. I like a good "everybody" place. If you're craving a good Friday fish fry this is a good place to try. You can get pollock, perch, shrimp, a combination of two, or all three. On my last visit I was hungry but not totally ravenous. I got the shrimp and perch combination and didn't quite manage to finish it. It was one of the better fish fries I've had in recent memory--crispy batter and not too much grease on the seafood, good coleslaw, choice of tots or fries--but it was definitely filling. The menu says it's available on Wednesdays too, which is nice. The rest of the menu is mostly typical "bar food," but it looks pretty solid. I'll have to go back and try a burger. There's one with cheese curds and marinara I'm sure I'll end up trying. It sounds like a total bomb of grease and calories, but there's totally a time and place for that. Also in that vein there's a chili cheese poutine and fries or tots with truffle oil and Parmesan, the latter available with a sandwich for a $3 upcharge. (I should mention I like upcharge items; they appeal to my innate inability to leave well enough alone.) The best part is the food and drinks are also reasonably priced. The all-3 fish fry is about $12. Burgers and sandwiches are mostly $8-$10. Drinks are on par with or slightly cheaper than other places in the neighborhood. There's a good combination of factors to make a person (especially a Riverwesterner) end up here again and again.
