I do not have any health conditions that would discourage LAL lenses. My brain is as healthy and efficient as people who are much younger. I have been unable to adjust to the dual focus that is part of the LAL concept. One eye for distance, the other for close up. My eyes got tired, dry and irritated when driving, as I was only using one eye. I had the same experience with close up vision, reading, watching TV etc. My vision blurred. I've learned it is not uncommon for the brain to have difficulty making that adjustment. As a result, I experienced dizziness and my brain was unable to efficiently "track" what I was seeing. Since the surgery my eyes are extremely dry. It took over a year for the burnt, bruised feeling and floaters to resolve. Fortunately I have an excellent optical physician who was able to correct my vision with progressive lens glasses. My experience with LAL was similar to many of the patients I spoke with while in Dr. Patels waiting room. I did all of the research, asked all of the right questions but feel some of the cons were omitted from the conversation. I am not questioning Dr. Patels skills as a physician or his ethics. He is a very skilled surgeon. I think he believed LAL lenses were the best he could offer me. Hopefully he is being more realistic about their success now.

It's frustrating that I have trouble seeing while driving on the highway and can't even read aisle signs. There seems to be no happy medium--I'll need to get glasses after all, even though I was initially told that I'd only need readers. I can't undue to his procedure or get 10k back. Type of care, quality of care and office experience was very good and all staff were warm and made me feel comfortable.

Called back for my appointment on time and the initial eye tests were done by an assistant to get my file updated and ready for the doctor. Assistant explained everything clearly as we proceeded and then left me in a room to wait for the doctor. Within minutes Dr. Maryam Ali came in and did my exam. She is very professional and personable. She answered my questions and I never felt rushed. In the end she was honest and told me that my eyes have not changed enough since my last check up to require a new prescription or new frames...unless I wanted them. The woman who takes care of the billing acted as though my…read moreinsurance co wasn't going to pay when they had said they would and was MOST reluctant to look it up. (I was right.) One of the techs was totally condescending when I told her I was going to run out of the drops over the weekend (absolutely essential following surgery) and told me she was sure I wasn't and I had to get very firm to get the drops I needed. I would have liked to have a team I knew and they rotate people depending on the day of your service but I felt I got good care from most of them. I liked optometrist, Dr. Coombs, very much but he went on vacation and the 2 follow-up optometrists could not or did not answer why I had a smudge in my left eye's vision which my personal optometrist answered immediately. The improved vision in my eye is phenomenol and I felt well-treated by the 2 surgeons which of course is the most important thing. I am now getting flooded with requests for feedback. I started to answer the emailed one but they started by asking for personal infx and I know, as I am a psychologist, that this is not a good way to get the best and most honest information. Since then, I have been getting calls from Nexus Health. They don't leave a message and when I called no one answered the phone. I had no idea who they were. Today I was by the phone and answered and it was Nexus Health for Pacific Cataract etc. who wanted to ask me 8 minutes of questions and of course it wasn't anonymous. She interrupted me repeatedly while I explained I had found the calls from Nexus Health disturbing since I had no way of knowing Nexus Health was associated with Pacific Laser and I thought it might be some lab test or something and I had no way to get infx from them. Ironically, my good feelings about Pacific Cataract and Laser are being diminished by their heavy-handed attempts to get "feedback" while violating my privacy.

Yes, outside billing is uncalled for! Medical training seems not as thorough or empathetic as it was or should be. I've had glaucoma over 40 years. Today's medical services seem the same everywhere we go. Now the young are insisting everyone gets the same "care", whether they worked for it or not. This is a real problem if not curtailed. I've been going to Clarus since I moved to Olympia12 years ago. The care was decent at first (I had…read morea history of a retina condition, so they would schedule me with an ophthalmologist for my routine exams) but in recent years I noticed they make no attempt whatsoever at continuity of care, they just schedule you with a random provider. Two visits ago, they had the radio playing in the waiting room. Reception was terrible, mostly static, and I asked the receptionist to turn it off or re-tune it. She told me she "wasn't allowed" to touch the radio. So I mentioned it to the tech when she called me back. She looked at me like I was nuts, offering helpfully, "I just tune that out". Last visit, the optometrist was using a scribe, and she dictated a term to him that was unfamiliar to me. I interrupted her to ask her what it meant, and she acted annoyed and told me to " save (my) questions for later". Of course, later never came. Last week, I called and was offered an appointment over 2 months out. The only time available was 7:45 am. I appreciate they are open extended hours to accommodate more patients, but I decided to get a referral from McKenzie at Capital Eye (by the Fred Meyer in Lacey). She recommended an optometrist only group in Tumwater. I saw them this morning and the experience was 180 degrees--nice office, up to date equipment, good bedside manner etc. The only reason I give Clarus 2 stars is they do have ophthalmologists. So if you do need cataract or retina surgery or something like that, it might be a place to consider. And oh yeah, they do have nice frames and the gal who helped me pick out my last pair listened carefully to what I wanted and helped me pick out a better pair than I would have chosen for myself.
