Be very wary of how their sales associates fit you. I came in for new running sneakers after having some ankle pain. The young girl helping me assured me that I was wearing a size too small, and this $160 pair of Hoka's, in half a size up, fit me perfectly. I trusted her because she was supposed to be the "expert". My first run in these shoes destroyed my feet. 4 blisters that caused me lots of pain. Figured I needed to break them in better. The next run was worse. By the third run I gave up. The shoes were just way too big for me. Big waste of $160. read more

Darn, I used to love this place but I'm continuously becoming more & more frustrated with my experiences there. I took my children there for cross country shoes. Both children were fitted incorrectly by a young woman that was friendly but also adamant that she was correct about their sizes and fits. Fast forward a couple of weeks and we're dealing with runner's toes, blisters, etc. The kids are now measured 2 sizes larger. Teens do not grow two sizes in two weeks especially when all of their other shoes & sandals still fit. At least the saleswoman was polite. Eric is ruining the vibe of the store. I wish the owners would fire him so it would be pleasant to shop there. He's always sarcastic, unfriendly, and not welcoming at all. Also, he so sweaty that it's really off-putting. read more

Staff are extremely helpful in finding you the perfect pair of shoes, whether you're a seasoned runner or buying your first pair (I've been coming here since I got my own first pair years ago). Went in looking for a new pair of running shoes, I run about 3-5 mi 3 times per week. The salesman was super helpful until I told him my price range was $90-$110. The cheapest shoes they had were $115 but he acted so smug that it was very easy for me to get out of there. He said, "If you want a foot injury go to Dicks Sporting Goods." Which is what I did after I left Kelly's. These type of people turn off new runners. I won't be going back again. read more

I'm new to to this area, and am also training for my third marathon. I was looking high and wide for a running store. I went to the local Sports Authority and even asked their employees if they knew of a local running store. I received blank stares in return. So, I was happy when a local running club directed me to Kelley's Pace- one of the very few local running stores. Kelley's Pace is in Old Mystic Village, which (if you haven't been before) is fun to walk through and shop. I went in knowing exactly what I wanted (an upgrade to my Addias running shoe) as well as some extra running supplies for the Winter ahead. I was wearing my old Addias and the guy working there was able to identify the newest version of my shoe within 5 seconds (no joke.) He had the shoes on the ground for me to try on within a minute. Needless to say, I was impressed. He allowed me to run around the store a few times testing out the shoe (I'm sure he would have let me run outside if I had asked, but I already knew the shoe so was pretty comfortable with it) as even offered to put my old shoes in the box so I could start to break in my new ones. I mentioned that I was new to the area (and the winter that is right around the corner) and the employee gave me some tips on what I might need in the next couple of months. The customer service was awesome. Some things you can find here: reflective vests, lights to wear, different types of energy gels (I remember seeing GU but I know there were some other brands there), clothing, and even greeting cards for runners (I looked through them and found myself cracking up- I had never seen greeting cards geared towards runners!) This IS a small store, but there was a great selection of shoes and the prices were similar to what you would find at a larger chain. Go here IF-you are looking for for something directly related to running. You are not going to find cross trainers here, nor clothing for other outdoor sports. You WILL find a great selection of shoes for all different kinds of running (trails, racing, etc.) clothing, sports bras, socks, etc. This is where I will come back when I know exactly what I need and don't want the hassle of explaining to someone at a larger chain what a "fuel belt" is, or when I need to have someone check the fit of my shoes and have complete confidence they know what they are talking about. Plus, it's great to support a local business. DO call ahead of time to check their hours. The Sunday I went they did not open until 11am. It's totally worth it to check this place out! read more

I hate to be negative but my recent experience at Kelly's Place was not positive. I was shown ONE running shoe - ONE! I have been a life long runner (42 years) and I have never walked out of a store without a new pair of running shoes. But, this employee decided what shoe was perfect for me and seemed quite insulted when I didn't love it. He refused to show me any other shoe. Fortunately, I was able to go to another running store and was fitted with a new show that I love. Needless to say, I sadly will not be going back to Kelley's Pace. read more

Really like this store! It is the only real running store I could find in my area. The salesman was very knowledgable and friendly. The selection was good and the prices were what I expected to pay at a running boutique. If you want expert advise and well-made shoes, expect to pay for it. The shop had a good selection of traditional sneakers, racing flats, barefoot shoes, walking shoes, and fashion sneakers. The store is in Olde Mystik Village so you can't just walk right up, but the parking is ample and a trip here is always fun! read more

Kelley's Pace may be the best running shoe store in the northeast. The selection is top notch for serious runners/walkers but what set the place apart from everywhere else was Erik, our sales associate. To call Erik a running shoe sales person is a little like calling Michaelangelo a house painter. My wife Pat was sent there with a potential foot condition by an orthopedist for good reason. Erik understood the issue medically, found SOCKS that helped as well perfectly balanced shoes. She left the store floating on air. I was so impressed I got a pair too. Floating followed. read more

Great service! I went this week with my husband so he could purchase his running shoes for both training and racing. While I was there I was amazed by how friendly and efficient Erik was in helping two non runners who has specific foot needs pick their perfect walking shoe and help my husband find his best pairs. Erik asked many questions and grabbed many selections for the women to try as he allowed them to try their selections outside and also watch them walk. I'm new to running and decided to train for a 1/2 marathon. A friend suggested that I purchase some good running shoes and referred me to Kelley's Place. Ben was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He measured me and talked me through what was important in a shoe when running for distance. I told him about some of my physical concerns and he answered them completely. He selected 4 brands and I tried each one. I selected the one in which I was most comfortable. This is a small store but the prices are about what you will pay at any other running shop. However this store sets itself apart with its superb customer service. I went in today looking to buy a racing singlet and got to talking to the lady behind the counter about how i thought I was developing shin splints, she proceeded to give me advice on ways to get over it as fast as possible (I'm running a marathon in 2 weeks) and looked at my shoes to make sure they fit me correctly. There are not many stores in the area that are catered to runners but as far as I'm concerned this store is as good as it gets, all my running friends shop there. If you are a serious runner go and check them out at the very least you will get to check out olde mystic village, but more likely than not you will find that the people working there are knowledgeable and friendly RUNNERS that genuinely want to help you achieve whatever your next running goal may be. read more
