This woman is a gem to the medical world. I was referred to Kelley from another facility during the beginning of my whole pregnancy. I really had no idea who she was and was just sort of driving blind. I ended up being really lucky in finding her. If you ever do a little research on her, you will find she's one of the best in the region, dedicated to her work, and surrounded by just as talented colleagues. From the beginning, she was kind and upfront. She remained honest and to the point. But still was able to act like a human being, something I see so little of in the medical world. Especially people as talented and sought after as Kelley. She really helped us through the difficult patches and ultimately at the delivery, knowing she was there and in charge helped put me at ease. I really hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I have to finally write a review about my experience with Dr. Hanrahan. When I still lived in Seattle, I had amazing insurance through Blue Cross. I found Dr. Hanrahan through here, of all places, read the reviews and watched her personal video on the Minor and James site. I had a good initial feeling and went ahead and made the appt. for my annual and Pap, etc. What was interesting during my first appt. with her was the way she reacted to my age (I was 35 at the time) and that I'd had one abnormal Pap in the recent past. I appreciated the concern at the time. Warning, the following might be TMI for some, but I think that it's important to understand all of the specifics of my visit(s) so that you can be as informed as possible if you're in a similar situation. My next test with her came out abnormal and she and Nurse Alicia informed me that I had moderate to severe dysplasia. This hadn't come up in the abnormal Pap from less than a year before and my previous doctor had only said to do a follow-up within the year. Ok, not panicking yet, but then Dr. Hanrahan immediately scheduled me for a biopsy asap. Biopsy is scheduled and I'm leaning toward the freakout end. I feel that she didn't do her best to answer my questions and that I had to Google a bunch of different topics related to the biopsy, etc., especially possible complications and recovery, et al. The biopsy that I had with Dr. Hanrahan was one of the worst experiences of my life. It was painful and I felt extremely uncomfortable. But wait, there's more....unfortunately. Biopsy definitely confirms the "moderate to severe dysplasia" and she schedules me for a LEEP procedure to remove the abnormal tissue. At this point, I'm envisioning dying of cervical cancer and I didn't care for her growingly blase attitude throughout the whole thing. The other thing was that she made an odd comment about a condition that I have and said "well, you're an odd case of PCOS, as you're one of the lucky ones that aren't overweight. Wow, just wow." Quote, unquote. I'm reminded of the timing and the tone of the comment being incredibly out of place. The LEEP procedure was quick and relatively painless, so at least that went well. However, the final straws are these. I went back for a follow-up Pap and exam. The follow-up pelvic exam was the most brutal that I've ever experienced in my entire life, no joke. She also said that she couldn't "find my cervix" and fumbled around for like 5 minutes. WTF? Really? She calls me within 2 weeks, says that the cells are back and she wants another biopsy, etc. The red flags completely went up for me as I had mentioned to Nurse Alicia during my last visit that my insurance would be running out (due to job change). I didn't call her back immediately and the next message she left tried to be ominous, basically chastising me about not acknowledging the severity of the situation with needing to get in asap, etc. Hmmm. My Spidey sense was tingling. I called her back shortly thereafter and left a message explaining that my insurance would run out by such and such time and that I was very concerned about the future and I'd appreciate her guidance and advice. Guess what? NO CALL BACK. I left a similar message a few weeks later, knowing that she's very busy and hard to see and all of that and guess what? Yup. She didn't bother calling me back at all. Ever. :( I moved out of town to Portland, OR and signed off to get my records from her for my new doctor last year. She only sent PARTIAL records, nothing after the biopsy, even after repeated attempts to get the complete records. Bizarre and incomprehensible, truly. I've since switched doctors (gotta love the insurance rigamarole) and I'm concerned that she'll do a repeat performance and not send everything. Not sure what to do if that happens, just short of marching back to Seattle and demanding my records in person so they can't keep ignoring me. Yes, this is a book and TMI, but if it can help anyone out there avoid something like this happening to them, so be it. Good luck with your future care. read more

I have spent two days and a total of probably half an hour on the phone attempting to make an appointment with Dr. Hanrahan. The final straw was when her receptionist began putting me on hold after every sentence out of her mouth. I'm sorry, you can be the most brilliant doctor on the planet, but if I can't even make an appointment to get in to see you, it hardly does me any good. What a great visit! Considering that I don't really look forward to being naked in front of someone that sees me 5 minutes a year, this was a good visit! Dr. Hanrahan is friendly, polite, and most importantly, she's a good listener. I'll spare you the details of the visit but I highly recommend both the staff and the Doctor herself. read more

Everyone who worked the reception desk was polite.. the office was clean and welcoming.. and the Dr. was very pleasant. She gave me the quickest and least painful exam I have ever had. I wouldn't go that far, but I must say: This time.... my "close eyes and point" method of choosing a doctor from my list of providers REALLY worked out... it was nice that she had a great review on Yelp too! My family and I recently moved to the Seattle area and when I became pregnant, had no idea who to choose for my obstetrician. After seeing all of the wonderful reviews on Yelp, I called and made an appointment with Dr. Hanrahan. I only saw her a few times because my pregnancy is high risk and I've been transferred to a perinatologist. I'm really sad about that because I really liked Dr. Hanrahan. She is warm and genuine yet also matter of fact and direct, which I liked. She referred me to an endocrinologist when I got gestational diabetes. I was very pleased with this. Dr. Hanrahan is incredibly bright and competent but I agreed that it was seeing a specialist for my diabetes was the right thing. I appreciated that she knew when to refer out and not manage it herself, although I have no doubt she was perfectly capable of it. As for the receptionists, I had zero issues and felt that they were all friendly and quick. No problems to report there. All in all, I would definitely recommend Dr. Hanrahan to anyone needing an OB/GYN. Again, I wish I could have had her deliver my baby! read more

Kelly Hanrahan was a fantastic obstetrician. She is sensitive, thorough, upbeat, careful, energetic, charismatic and seemingly hyper-competent. In our case, a first-time pregnancy, we had been worried about complications experienced by other family members, and she was very careful to understand the situation, advise us on our options, and give us the latitude to choose the best course for us. She never rushed us and was never condescending or judgmental; in fact she was always completely present and focused. I normally don't really enjoy visits to the doctor's office but we both found ourselves looking forward to appointments with Dr. Hanrahan. Some people just have a really good energy. We were also moved that Dr. Hanrahan visited us in the hospital after the birth; it was unnecessary but much appreciated. So three cheers for Dr. Hanrahan! read more

Who likes going to the gynocologist? I know I am not a fan. I am not sure exactly how I found Dr. Hanrahan ( a little research and some luck!) but I am sure glad I did. Dr Hanrahan always takes her time is cheerful and makes getting your annual check up a breeze. Last year when I scheduled it took 8 weeks to see her so call sooner than later because it will be a few months before you get in. read more

I went to Dr.Hanrahan because of the great yelp reviews as I recently moved to Seattle and was looking for a new gynecologist for the yearly exam. Great choice! The thing that I really enjoyed the most about the appointment was that she comes in to talk to you before you change into the gown. Much more pleasant than the normal procedure of "Hi! How are you? I am going to look at your cervix now!". It really made me feel like she cares a lot more about her patients to talk to them as a person rather than examining for any problems. She was very thorough, calm, and helpful in her examinations. She does not put any pressure into her opinions in the discussion and that is greatly appreciated. =) I was also surprised that the office could give me the Gardesil vaccine right there and then. Maybe this is a Washington state thing, but when I wanted one in Maryland I was told that I would need to get it elsewhere and bring it in to the clinic afterward for them to administer it. So either this office or Washington state are really awesome! My only complaint about Dr.Hanrahan is that she is just so popular. When trying to schedule an appointment for a particular week a month in advance, she was completely booked up. And seems to be a common occurrence. I guess you have to deal with this if you want to see a great doctor? read more

I had to switch Doctors during my pregnancy because I was being ignored by my other Doctor. I didn't feel a connection to the Doctor until my baby was born. Maybe it is just a rule for most Doctor's downtown to not really care about you as a person? And although I do feel rushed when I am in the office, I stay because I do like the nurse I deal with on a regular basis. read more

I agree with other posts here. She's very personable and easy to talk to. And while its hard to get an appointment, she's worth the hassle. Only downside was that she was an hour late for my appointment because she was delivering a baby. Oh well! Can't control things like that. On a side note, she highly recommended Gardisal and I had a horrible reaction to the vaccine. Not her fault, but I didn't go back for my other 2 shots. read more

When I met Kelly Hanrahan I thought, what a nice sweet lady. ...And then I had trouble getting pregnant. She ran some tests, said I was fine, I just kept trying. Then I got pregnant, and on my first ultrasound appt, she had to leave. I was left with one of her partners who delivered terrible news in such a scarring way that I cannot even look at an ultrasound for the rest of my life. She not only was rude and insensitive, but was over an hour late. Then the triage nurse, not a nice one, very rude, makes you feel as though you are bothering her, and very unhelpful. Moving on, i miscarried, I saw 3 drs at Minor and James, including Hanrahan, asking all of them, "is there something wrong, should I be able to get pregnant again". All three said yes, dont worry. Fast forward 6 months, still not pregnant, and decided to go to SRM, a fertility facility, which is amazing. I got my records from Hanrahan, and I saw these incredibly rude notes from her during my appts, claiming I had an eating disorder and it was preventing me from having a child. She wrote this 3 times, but never mentioned it to me. Within 5 minutes of being with SRM, they realized I had the ovarian reserve of someone about to go through menopause. Keep in mind i am almost 29. I am most frustrated with The fact that through the FSH bloodwork and ultrasound testing, a miscarraige, and seeing 3 drs at Minor and James, no one ever let me know this was an issue, and it clearly showed up in my bloodwork records. What this means is I am about out of eggs, and wasting a year really solidified the fact that I cannot have my own child. I tell my story so that you all having issues getting pregnant do not go to her to risk being misdiagnosed like me, and treated poorly! read more

Dr. Hanrahan is a nice doctor; however, the clinic that she works out of is awful( Minor and James). Dr. Hanrahan is extremely difficult to get an appointment with. One of her nurses (triage) was not pleasant to deal with at all and said some rather rude and inappropriate things in the beginning of the pregnancy, such as " it's not looking so good for you", among other things. As soon as the heartbeat was heard at the U/S, they became friendly. Anyway, I ended up having a miscarriage and I don't think that they really know how to deal with patients who are having a pregnancy loss. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone. read more

I really enjoyed having Dr Hanrahan as my Ob-gyn. She is personable, warm and very caring. I happened to think that her nursing staff were very responsive to my needs. I would have to agree with others that the receptionist's could stand a little customer service training, but overall, not too bad. She's a great doctor and I highly recommend her. read more

Kelley is the best doctor I've ever had. Not only is she incredibly knowledgable and up-to-date on OB/GYN issues, but she also gets an A+ for bedside manner. She is warm and friendly, relaxed, and approachable. She clearly loves what she does and displays an attitude that says self-confident without ranking herself above her pattients. She has always welcomed and encouraged my questions, and she explains things without being condescending. I have great confidence in her as my OB/GYN, and I feel like I can talk to her about any concern I have. She also has a great sense of humor: When I was in labor with my first baby (post-epidural), she and my husband and I were talking and laughing about an episode of The Simpsons. (Really!) read more

I have nothing new to add, everyone seems to rave about Dr. Hanrahan equally. :) I was referred to her through a friend whose sole basis for selecting her was that Dr. H. was also a Big 10 grad (very, very important to me, too, so it seemed like an incredibly rational choice). What a find! My favorite thing about Dr. H. is that she comes into the room to chat pre-exam, while you're still fully clothed and human, as opposed to just being a patient. Also on par with other reviewers however, her staff is not nearly as top-notch as she is. But she's still worth it! read more

Going into my second pregnancy I decided to pick a new dr. as my previous dr's nurse had some disgusting habits. I scored with Dr. Hanrahan!! She was awesome and so are her partners. I tend to be a bit anxiety ridden but felt completely at ease in this office throughout my entire pregnancy. Dr. Hanrahan never rushed me, kept me well informed and helped keep me healthy and happy all the way to an easy healthy birth. She's one of those rare doctors that actually seems like an everyday person that happens to have a ton of knowledge to share with you in your moment of need. Thank you Dr. Hanrahan! Going off yelp reviews I met with Dr. Hanrahan for the first time this week. It was for a regular annual and pre-conception visit. She was knowledgable, personable, and professional. My visit started on-time. The receptionist Crystal was great. Dr. Hanrahan's nurse was also good. And Robin the phlebotomist was wonderful. Dr. Hanrahan was able to answer all my questions and also provide helpful resources for me to refer to after the visit. I would wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Hanrahan to other yelpers. read more

I saw Dr Hanrahan for my first gyno-pregnancy appt after reading all the great reviews. She and all the staff in her office are amazing. I had to have my annual exam as well as my big blood draw and felt next to nothing during both. She and her staff are very cheerful and made me feel at ease. Highly recommended!!!! read more

I picked Dr. Hanrahan because she was accepted by my insurance, a mother herself, and a runner - these were the only qualities I really wanted in an OB. But what I got was so much more. She has this very warm and calming manner but without being phoney. She was always knowledgable and answered all my questions without making me feel like I was just a nervous first time mom. She always seemed genuinely happy to see me and find out how I was feeling. In the end she was able to deliver my son which was also a great experience. Dr. Hanrahan really played a key role in making my entire pregnancy and delivery a fantastic experience. I heard that she reduced her hours (good for her) which makes it tough to see her but trust me she is worth the wait! read more

I have never wrote a review in my life, this should tell you how strongly I feel about Dr. Hanrahan, that I am actually taking the time to write this. Just wanted to let everyone know that I cannot stand this doctor. She happened to be the on call OB at Swedish when I was in labor. And due to my rapid labor my regular OB was not there in time for my delivery and therefore I had Dr. Hanrahan. She told me I had to have a c-section and I ended up delivering on the operating table vaginally, how wrong she was! My regular OB told me Dr. Hanrahan does not have a lot of experience and is very quick to perform surgery to cover her you know what. I was very fortunate to avoid surgery, no thanks to the doctor. I would never go back to her and opt for a more experience doctor who is not going to freak out if one little thing goes wrong in labor. On top of that she was rude and very short with my husband and I. And is not able to admit when she is completely wrong. All very bad qualities in my opinion for a doctor. My advice.... search elsewhere. There are a lot of great docs at Swedish First Hill, that have nothing but great reviews. read more
