For the positive things you see online (highly questionable and almost always left on the same date(s)), there are a countless other negative realities which are hidden and deleted from public view. The turnover is astounding with families leaving mid-year or even a few weeks in. If you care about your children's actual education, this is not the place for them. When you see the word "rigorous" in their online reviews, it is all but certain Ms. Cook is writing those because no actual parent would ever claim their children are getting a solid foundation here. It is a joke and disgrace to anyone who works hard and selects a model where standards are expected. This place makes the worst public school look like Princeton. There is so much more we could say, but in spite of contacting them directly, their replies are less than Christlike and passive aggressive, at best. We are saddened to also see two people on the board of directors are known figures in the hyper charismatic realm and have serious allegations of abuse and financial coverups which are well documented publicly. Knowing these are on their board speaks volumes as to why TPA and the administration is perfectly fine lying and taking funds. Do your research. If you know people at Countryside or their counterpart church, please ask why it's okay for so many of you to financially and spiritually do business with the likes of those mentioned above. Given your own stances on items, it seems dishonest on your part to say one thing from the pulpit and in documentaries and then dismiss it for a second tier institution. Please do your research and do not invest God's resources in this place.

While people will question my interpretation, the community choose to combine what were supposed to be two free standing high schools into one high school to maintain their 5A football status. The public meetings for this decision were heated. This is stereotypical Texas HS football complete with indoor practice facilities and ineligible player controversies. http://goo.gl/Cil2fg . It is not unusual to have retired pro athletes move to the district to have their kids play here. This is not a criticism, but a reality of the culture and values here. What you have are two campuses with Freshmen/Sophomores at Carroll High School and a Juniors/Seniors at this campus. This difficulty is that because kids take different classes at different years, most of the students will end up commuting between campuses by buses provided by the schools. This is less than ideal. The bottomline is that this is an affluent school district with high sports and academic standards. Your child will get a solid education. The only big gap I can see is in the lack of a string program in the music department. Smaller, less affluent neighboring districts have better and more complete music programs. The counseling staff is excellent, the teachers are for the most part of high caliber, and there is a strong sense of school spirit. What is lacking is economic diversity. Even in the neighboring relatively affluent Grapevine-Colleyville, Coppell and Northwest school districts, there are working class families. Having a $100k household income will put you in the lowest quartile here. The kids openly talk about the "Southlake Bubble" referring to the insular affluence of the community. This is the land of conspicuous consumption. I don't think it is healthy and my daughter would have been better served by attending a more mixed community. All of that being said, if you are the private school type, buy a house in the district and save money on tuition. The education is comparable and your children will be well prepared for college.

We moved our son to FWC in the beginning of his junior year from an excellent public school system…read more He struggled through his ninth and tenth grade years and was barely passing classes. He is smart, and did well on tests, but couldn't understand the importance of daily work and putting in the effort on a regular basis, so he would fail the class until the last minute, when he would turn in late work enough to get his grade to a 69.5 and pass by the skin of his teeth. FWC doesn't allow late work (at all) and it shocked him at first, but he began doing his work regularly. In October of his senior year, I got an email about the honor roll, and wondered why I received it...until I saw his name there in black and white! He also received Academic All-State honors for Track & Field in the spring of his senior year, and he is now going to play football for Hendrix College, which is a D3 high-academics institution in Arkansas. FWC helped him immensely to improve academically.

This is the high school I attended. I graduated very highly here in 1999…read more The school is a nice place. Nice grounds, nice equipment, nice building. I thought the teachers were very good. The problem was and remains the administration in Keller, and the school board. As happens way too often in Texas, the religious right controls this place. It is sad that we had to deal with the occasional anti-science teacher, or that kids would be prevented from attending graduation because of a single joint in their car. Also, at least one play has been canceled because of "inappropriate" subject matter. Also, when I was on the HS newspaper staff, the administration routinely censored out very harmless article or cartoons. Bleh.

Our family has been here for 8 years and could not be happier. Every environment has pluses and…read moreminuses, but our child has thrived here. The teachers are exceptional and have promoted a true love of learning and the students/families have been exceptional. Covenant offers multiple opportunities for students to engage and become involved - fine arts, athletics, academic clubs - i am amazed at the breadth of offerings that students can choose from. As a parent, am so thankful that we have found this school and so appreciative for the commitment, passion and love that the teachers show for their students.
