        Established in 2003.

        We use cutting-edge digital imaging technology to assess your eyes. Many eye diseases, if detected at an early stage, can be treated successfully without total loss of vision. Your retinal Images will be stored electronically. This gives the eye doctor a permanent record of the condition and state of your retina. You'll discover one of the largest selection of high quality, name brand frames and the best customer service around.         Meet the Manager: Keith M.

        Dr Keith Miller is a native of Denver Colorado. He performed his undergraduate studies at the University of Colorado and completed his professional studies at Northeastern State University College of Optometry. He graduated magna cum laude in 2002. Dr Miller was a member of the honor society Beta Sigma Kappa while completing his education and received the Ocular Sciences Innovative Research Award. He moved here with his family in 2010 to serve as the Director of Refractive Surgery Services for Bakersfield's largest LASIK surgery provider and highly respected ophthalmologist Dr Gregory Stainer M.D. Since 2003, he has worked with LASIK and other refractive surgeries providing evaluative, pre and post-operative care for thousands of patients. In addition to refractive surgery his expertise includes ocular therapeutics, dry eye management, contact lenses and primary eye care. He recently authored a book discussing the causes and treatments for dry eye.

I visited on three separate…read moreoccasions, and each time I felt that I was treated poorly and unfairly, particularly during my interactions with the front-office staff. As a Black woman, these repeated experiences left me feeling unwelcome and discriminated against. In addition to the customer service issues, I experienced problems with my prescription not being handled correctly, and I later developed an eye infection, which was extremely concerning and frightening. What made the situation even more frustrating was my attempt to contact the office for assistance. My calls were repeatedly forwarded or went unanswered. However, when I called from a different phone number, my call was answered. This only added to my concerns about how I was being treated. Based on my personal experiences, I felt that I was treated differently because of my race. I have submitted a complaint regarding my concerns because I believe this situation deserves to be taken seriously. I would strongly encourage people of color to carefully consider my experience before choosing this establishment. No patient should ever leave a healthcare facility feeling ignored, disrespected, or discriminated against--especially when they are seeking help with their health.

      Today was my first visit to Li and Liao Optometry. I decided to visit the location on Brimhall Rd…read morewhich is the NW location. I was very impressed with how smooth my first interaction was. I was greeted by the front desk receptionist with a friendly welcome and smile. My wait was no more than 5 mins after my scheduled appointment. I was assisted by Carmen who is one of the friendliest and most knowledgeable there can be. For my pre-exam the process was smooth as I was navigated to each eye machine. I then waited for Dr. Li and again not long. He greeted me with a great sense of humor. He is very easy going and is attentive to patient's needs. He is quick to address any concerns you may have. You can rest assured your questions are answered honestly. He is one of the most thorough optometrists I have even been around. He reviewed all the graphs and results of my pre-eye exam and broke down what exactly I was looking at. I essentially was looking at my entire eye health. This something unique and akin to what a dentist would show you when they take x-rays. I was really impressed. He was very forthcoming about what to expect as I age with my eye health. He also was able to provide a sense of understanding. I was very appreciative of his knowledge. Following my visit, I was escorted to the optician (I forget her name). She assisted me in selecting frames. She helped me with understanding what my insurance covers, and she even allowed for me to combine my wife's coverage. She was very patient with all my questions and not once I ever felt rushed. I may have kept her longer than I intended and had to depart. However, I was introduced to the person that finished up for her and that optician too (I forget her name) was very nice. At the end I was able to select a quality pair of frames that I am sure I will be happy with! From start to end the visit was one of the best I have ever had! The facility is comfortable and inviting. The entire staff I encountered were all very professional and courteous. Dr. Li was simply a joy to speak to and I am sure I can trust him with all my needs for years to come! I cannot recommend him enough. If you need an optometrists consider Li and Liao Optometry! Just a note, I saw many reviews and was skeptical at first in purchasing frames at the optometrist's office. I am someone who have been accustomed to purchasing eyeglasses from Costco. Costco offers a good selection, and the costs are more than fair. However, I can say that after my visit with Dr. Li and having the opportunity to keep an open mind to see what they offered I opted to purchase my frames from his establishment. I wanted to support not only a doctor who knows his craft but a business who provides awesome service, impeccable knowledge of eye health and second to none care. I find that when sitting with an optician I get the most out of selecting the best frames. Of course, you will see name brand choices, and this may scare some when it comes to pricing. But I compare it to what are you willing to pay for your health. It is like purchasing a good mattress so one can sleep well. I look at glasses the same, you may be wearing these 24/7. The brands offered are quality. In the end its worth it!

I chose Dr. Thurman Edward Wood, O.D. in Bakersfield because of all the great Google reviews--and I'm glad I did. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and well taken care of. The staff who did my initial exams were fantastic (wish I caught her name!). I went through a few different tests--one with VR, one for eye pressure, and another where you stare at a balloon through a small hole. She explained everything clearly and made me feel comfortable. When it was time to see Dr. Wood, I was even more impressed. He really took his time with me, focusing on my personal needs and listening to my history of eye concerns going back 15 years. He answered all my questions--including which eye is dominant--and gave me a very thorough exam. I left feeling reassured, confident, and cared for. My wife had her exam as well and was equally impressed with the doctor's attention to detail. Best part? I found out I don't need glasses! Unfortunately, the experience didn't end as strong. When my wife went to pick out glasses, the sales rep assisting her was pretty inattentive. Instead of guiding us through price points or styles, she just kept saying, "Take your time and look around," while sitting off to the side. We were on a bit of a time crunch, and after letting them know we couldn't finish that day, the atmosphere felt a little awkward. We paid for the exam and left, but my wife and I agreed in the car that while the exam experience was excellent, we'll be purchasing glasses elsewhere. Overall: Dr. Wood and the medical side of the visit were phenomenal. I highly recommend him for anyone needing a thorough and thoughtful eye exam. Just be prepared that the glasses-buying process might not be as attentive as you'd hope.

As a Black woman, these repeated experiences left me feeling unwelcome and discriminated against. In addition to the customer service issues, I experienced problems with my prescription not being handled correctly, and I later developed an eye infection, which was extremely concerning and frightening. What made the situation even more frustrating was my attempt to contact the office for assistance. My calls were repeatedly forwarded or went unanswered. However, when I called from a different phone number, my call was answered. This only added to my concerns about how I was being treated. Based on my personal experiences, I felt that I was treated differently because of my race. I have submitted a complaint regarding my concerns because I believe this situation deserves to be taken seriously. I would strongly encourage people of color to carefully consider my experience before choosing this establishment. No patient should ever leave a healthcare facility feeling ignored, disrespected, or discriminated against--especially when they are seeking help with their health.

So, coming here, it was very refreshing to discover that there are some places that still know how to run a business with great professionalism and customer service. This review is for a contact lens exam that I received earlier today. It was my first visit to Takhar Eye Care. First of all, the front desk is fantastic. They actually answer the phone! Promptly and friendly too! They are clear in communicating and very detailed oriented. The front desk can make or break whether or not I'd like to even make an appointment in the first place, let alone come back. But the prompt and responsive service was immediately impressed upon me even before I arrived. They also had appointments available within a reasonable timeframe, which is hard to find these days. Secondly, the doctor is also fantastic! Really took the time to learn about what I needed and didn't rush through the exam. He was efficient and thorough, carefully checking my eyes. He listened to my idiosyncratic requests and was able to meet all of them. Also, he explained some of the process of the exam that I never knew before! The place was super clean and organized. And, they had a contact lens removal station with lens cases and solution! It's so odd, but for the past 15 years plus, it has always been a hassle to take out my contacts at eye exams. When I saw a whole station ready with sink, mirror, cases, and solution (for soft contact lenses), I was seriously shocked and happy. At past offices, I have been given grief for not bringing my own supplies, provided only hard contact lens solution with no other option, needed to walk down outside of the office to a faraway restroom, or used areas without an available mirror at all. What a relief it was that I didn't have to overcome any of these obstacles just to take out my lenses for the exam! Overall, A+++ for Takhar Eye Care. Thank you!

Asked if lunch was still at 1pm, and told it was. So apparently it takes 1 whole hour to assist a customer, walk-ins are not welcome, and you can't come in to just look at frames. Terrible customer service...you just lost 2 potential new customers as both my daughter and myself are in need of frames. Literally just wanted to look at frames, already had our prescriptions.

Then I turned 40 and the things I thought I might escape came raining down upon me. I came to terms and made an appointment and am so glad that I did. I found this office to be quite lovely. The front desk staff are extremely friendly and accommodating upon arrival which is always a nice start. The office atmosphere is welcoming in general. The office employs impressive technology to take images of the eye and during my visit with the optometrist, he brought the pictures up on the computer and thoroughly explained what we were looking at. He was very personable and friendly and made me feel at ease throughout the exam. Angelina was the staff member who helped me to try on different frames for my new reading glasses. They have SO many designer frames to choose from that I wanted to buy multiple pair to go with different outfits except I am not a millionaire (yet) and so I settled on a very nice pair of Dolce & Gabbana frames. Totally satisfied with my experience here. I have not one bad thing to mention with exception of the price tag- but it is generally expensive to be alive these days.

On 1/23/2021 at 9:30am I went in for a wrong prescription given to me twice at this location. Delia a very professional and sweet lady did look at my glasses and did find my issue true. She schedule me to see Louis Allen at 11:20am for appointment which I was going to pay $$ again. I waited till that time and and past that time at about 11:55am waiting for so long I was told by Allen and his clerk to come back on a Tuesday. That was not acceptable and I try to talk to Allen and he just said "I'm going to lunch and walked away". I talk to Delia about the treatment I received and she apologized and quickly started to look for other Dr's to view and correct my glasses. The location here I will advise only buy glasses for average service meaning some ladies are great and others are below average service. For Dr. Louis Allen and his clerk they should look for something that doesn't involve people skills or service. I have usually been met with condescending comments and unfriendly doctors, but love that I am saying that I just had the most pleasant experience with Dr Allen and his staff.
