I buy all of my gear from KEH and this last month totally reaffirmed why I love and trust this company. I've been shooting with the Nikon f3 for the last 3 years. Since my original purchase (plus 2017 is Nikon's 100th anniversary) the price of the camera has tripled. I was having issues with my camera this fall and some companies quoted me more than the price of the camera to repair it. When I contacted the KEH team, they went above and beyond to take care of any cleaning / repairs that it needed. The whole team was so pleasant to deal with - especially Robin. So happy to have my camera back in my hands, good as new and ready to shoot again. read more

I would not recommend the company if you have equipment to sell. After sending in my camera and two lens they informed me that only the camera was worth something and that the 2 lens were "ugly" in their words. No explanation of why they were ugly but they have kept the lens! read more

I tried to become a customer at KEH Camera, today, but thanks to their bizarre and poor customer service, I will never order from them. 1.) They had advertised a camera and several lenses, but did not word the description fully, completely, nor state simply "this is what it comes with:". By reading the ad, you would not know what exactly came with the camera, nor know if the information was correct, as there wasn't any real pictures of the actual items. 2.) They don't take pictures of any of the items and instead put "stock" photos representing used products that have nothing to with the item for sale. Only a dishonest, lazy place would do that, after all why wouldn't they want you to see the actual item(s) condition? A picture really is worth a thousand words...It takes the same amount of time to put up 'fake' pictures as it does real pictures. 3.) I called their number and spoke to a person that was too quick to interrupt and repeatedly stated that "we are the largest used camera store...and "we are too big and don't have time to take pictures of the items for sale" This person couldn't tell me exactly what was included, didn't care that 99.9% of the other businesses take clear photos showing the condition of the lenses, the exact model it is, whether or not it has scratches, dents, fungus, etc. The "help" on the phone said "we're too big for that, we're not small like everyone else" and "We don't have time for that" 4.) This particular camera has what is called a cam that is mated to a focusing mechanism and controls how the rangefinder works in conjunction with the lense(s). This is so important that the manufacturer stamps the lens ser. number and size, because it won't work with any other lens or lenses, but what it was machined for. You can't have these cams made up any more from the factory. The "help" couldn't care less and wouldn't give me any of this very important information. Basically the range finder part of the camera becomes worthless and defeats the whole purpose of this feature. 5.) They put me through to another number, a recording. They really could care less about you as a customer. The person would not give any real information about the camera and just kept repeating "how big they are" blah, blah, blah... If you were going to pay almost $3000.00 for a camera and three lenses, etc. Wouldn't you at least like a description over the phone of the actual item. How hard is it to have a few pictures, so one could see if it was clean, or scratched, dented, worn, not worn? Are the lenses clear?, are they scratched?, etc. Since KEH DOES NOT CARE, nor give the time to do basic sales, then one does not need to reward that sort of poor service - there are literally thousands of other camera shops in the USA that be glad to give proper service and great prices. read more

DO NOT BUY FROM KEH!!! I looked at some of the reviews and saw most of them were bad and thought "that won't happen to me." Well it did. It will happen to you too. I bought a Canon 28-300mm lens off of them (with no notice of the product being defective) and the autofocus would not work as well as the lens would not slide all the way down and sometimes got stuck almost all the way up. So I sent it in to Canon CPS for those 2 problems. When I got the updated repair estimate, they said it would be $800 to fix this lens. They also found 3 ADDITIONAL problems with the lens! Here is a list of what they found wrong 1. Guide barrel damaged due to impact 2. FPC pipe damaged due to impact 3. Autofocus not working 4. Zoom band is broken 5. 2nd lens assembly has fungus on it To clarify, I have never dropped this lens nor has it been anywhere near water. I emailed KEH to see if they could at least help cover the cost and they said they only way they could help is if I had sent it back to them for repair and not Canon. I don't know why they don't trust the original maker of the lens to diagnose and repair it but apparently they don't trust Canon. This whole experience has taught me 2 things about KEH as a business. The first being that they do not care about their customers whatsoever. If any business messes up and they want to help the customer, they will. The second thing I learned about KEH is that they seem awfully fishy when it comes to helping others. Apparently they only trust their own business (the one that sold a broken product) and not Canon (the business who literally makes this lens). I will never buy from KEH again and I encourage you to do the same. read more

I recently sent in a lens to have it checked out by KEH. I was given a quote of over $100 online, but when they reviewed it, they offered me $11. There was no way I was going to accept that. I needed the full amount to be able to buy another lens. I went to my email and attempted to follow the steps to deny the offer. Somehow, their website was in fact accepting the offer instead of denying it. I didn't realize until I received an email saying "Thanks for Selling with KEH." I emailed their purchasing support to get it all sorted out and have my lens returned. I explained the situation, but Dana Villella told me that the deal is closed and can't be reversed. I emailed back saying I would work with them, sending back any payment that they would've sent to me. She responded saying "Like I said it can't be reversed. Our emails are set up to ask you twice if you wish to sell. Also the gear has already been pulled and dismantled." Yes, I received two emails asking about the offer. I opened one of them to deny the offer. There was no multi-step verification when I was actually going through the process. Also, there is no way for me to get my lens back in the state it was in. DO NOT send your equipment here if you're just looking for a quote! They will not work work with you at all. read more

We received an order that someone in New York ordered and paid for and it shipped to our house in Chicago. They somehow got a credit card number of ours and tried to push through a charge that did not match any of the invoice on the packing slip. Both Sales & Customer Service had no clue what was going on and tried to keep passing me between the two. Asked for an officer and got voicemail. Run away from this company as they will not be in business much longer with these practices. read more

I was so excited to find such amazing prices, but as always, there's a reason why. My order was 3 days late and when I called them to inquire a tracking number they informed me they still had the package. Why did no one try to contact me about this? Furthermore, they insisted to me that they tried emailing me about this issue prior to my contacting them, but I've scoured my inbox and there are none. Here are the pros, in regards to their repair service: Pricing slightly better than Canon repair. Here are the cons: Their repair service is very, very slow. I sent in a prime lens for repair and it came back with bad focus problem. So I sent it in again, and then they tell me that Canon doesn't make the parts for this lens (a current L lens that is sold in every big photo store), which is very hard to believe since I had just ordered a brand new part for it. Now they're sending me the lens back with the focus problem still there. I will now have to send it in to Canon for repair. It was a waste of several weeks of time. read more

Once I would have recommended KEH to others, not so much anymore. I am looking at my order receipt and turns out that I made a "ghost order" on keh.com that KEH can't fulfill anymore. Upon calling them it seems like KEH.com isn't reliable and that we should all just call them to order next time. Are we back in the '90s? read more

Ordered a blackmagic micro cinema camera but instead they sent me a blackmagic pocket cinema camera.

Showed up fast and in better condition than I imagined with box and paperwork in truly like new condition.

Received the items on 4/20. Try to use the camera, after 3 clicks the camera defect with error 99, nothing could run after that. Return defective camera on monday 4/23, KEH returned shipping received on 4/24 and today 4/28 has not received any word from KEH that they have replace my defective camera. Return defective merchandise very slow!!! Please advice. read more

I'm into film photography, not digital, and have been buying cameras, lenses, and accessories both on eBay and from KEH for about a year now. So, this review is based on plenty of experience. eBay is fine if you know how to do it right, and you can get amazing deals there, but you won't get the customer service that KEH provides. I love KEH's personalized service and the six month warranty. The stuff I buy is used and quite old, so the possibility of needing to use the warranty service is high. Sure enough, I've had to send two items back to KEH for service. Both times, the experience has been great. No arguments, no naysaying, just a lot of, "Let's help you get that back in shape. Here's your return authorization." One item was a Zeiss lens for my Hasselblad system. The focus seemed tight and the EV ring felt like it had overly worn gears. It went in for warranty service, and what came back to me was a different lens in much better condition than the first one. What a beauty. Another great aspect of KEH is the frequent sales. If you can hold out (it shouldn't be long), you can get a better deal than on eBay, with the bonus of the great customer service. I trust KEH, and think I'll be doing business with them for a long time. Kudos to Nate for helping me out with my most recent warranty request. Keep up the great work! read more

On December 14th, I ordered a replacement Canon 50mm f/1.4 for one of my clients. On the 24th, my client told me the lens hadn't arrived yet. At this point, I've only received the initial email order confirmation. I logged into the site and saw that the order's status was "ON HOLD." What? So I called them up, and they said "oh of course, the billing and shipping addresses don't match. We need to be extra careful this time of year." I then asked why I didn't get an email update. "It says in the notes here we tried to contact you a few times." Okay, but not over email? Fine. Can you guarantee it'll be shipped today? "I guarantee it will not be shipped today." I immediately canceled my order and ordered my client a replacement from Amazon. The worst part was when the service rep tried to shift some of the blame to me for not answering my phone. I'm traveling internationally and don't have good phone service. IT'S 2014 WHO DOESN'T SEND EMAIL UPDATES WHEN AN ORDER IS DELAYED. Sheesh. I also told him this was a business transaction and KEH was making MY business look bad. Rep didn't seem to care. read more

I'm surprised KEH is only showing a 3 1/2 star rating. I just completed my 3rd or 4th purchase -- a Fujinon 100-400 zoom and saved 1/3 the cost of a new lens (abt $500). The condition was listed as Excellent. I tested the lens immediately on arrival and it was at least that good. Good quality glass will never be cheap, but I've been happy with KEH quality ratings and happy to save significant $ :) read more

I recently sold some used camera gear to KEH and had a sufficiently bad experience to warrant a bad Yelp review. This was my first time selling used gear to KEH, but I've done so several times with B&H, which has always been a very smooth and positive experience. Here are the details. With KEH it took 45 days between when FedEx was given the package with my gear and when I received my check. My most recent used gear sales transaction with B&H took 15 days start to end. Aside from an email indicating they had received my gear, KEH never contacted me with their final quote. After a few weeks I called and was told they were busy and had not opened the box. Another week passed so I called again and was told they would look at it tomorrow and contact me. A week later and still no call or email, so I called them again and was told they would offer me 15% less than their initial on line quote. Of course the reason I choose to sell to KEH instead of B&H is that their initial quote was 10% higher than B&H's. But, at this point it had been almost month, so I took KEH's lower offer. It took another 10 days for KEH's check to finally reach me. It felt like KEH was dragging their feet -- perhaps they have cash flow issues? At any rate, I've learned my lesson and will find other ways to sell my used camera gear. read more

I recently called KEH to inquire about the condition of a lens on their webpage. The person on the phone asked if I wanted to make the purchase over the phone, I told her that I needed to think about it. I decided to make the purchase 5 minutes after hanging up the phone. Guess what? The lens was sold! Yes its possible that an actual customer bought the lens but what are the chances of that actually happening within 5 minutes? It looks very suspicious to say the least. I have always had good experiences with this store but this has shaken my faith in them. If I worked in a camera store trust me, I would know about all of the deals before the stuff got listed online. Who knows what happened? But i'm calling b.s. on her being shocked when I called back to inquire. read more

The support KEH offers is a sad excuse for customer service. I recently purchased a lens from KEH that was described as being in "EX+" condition that turned out to have lens coating that was scratched and rubbed. In this condition the lens should have been graded as "BGN". I called them for an RA following their return instructions to be informed that they don't really have RA's, just send it back. I sent a cover letter with complete documentation and requested refund of 2-way freight due to their condition inflation. I sent the same information to them by e-mail. Alternatively, I requested a replacement lens that was truly in EX+ condition. I received no response to my letter or e-mail, but I did eventually receive a PayPal credit for $11.45 less than I'd originally paid with no explanation for the deduction or for why return freight wasn't credited for their mis-represented product. I could not recommend this company to anybody based upon their miserable customer service. read more

two "e+" rated camera bodies i purchased there in 2011 (An om1 and a Nikon F3) both had problems within a year. The meter died in the Nikon and the winder broke on the OM1. The lenses i purchased were good, though. Would i buy there again? NO. read more

I sold a Canon Camea and Leica Binocs to KEH. I received a check on 1/28/20 and it bounced! They will not respond to my messages or calls.

I bought a Canon Rebel XS camera used for 159. They said it was in excellent condition and they were not kidding. The camera is in excellent condition and it looks brand new. I used the camera for my daughters graduation and it took awesome photos. I had it on auto control and auto focus and I used a Tamaron 18-300 mm lens that I rented. The lens was incredible but so is the camera. The pictures are sharp and in focus and very clear. I will definitely buy again from KEH. I am going to buy some lenses from KEH as soon as I can afford it. They accept trade in's and I will definitely be trading in my camera when I am ready for an upgrade. I highly recommend KEH and they give you a 6 month warranty which EBAY does not. Trust KEH for your used equipment. They are awesome! read more

Three purchases and I'm hooked. 2 cameras and one lens that were all basically brand new. They were Ex and Ex+ Graded. The A7rii had 1400 shutter actuations and the a5100 had 600. Had a problem making the third order and was helped by a real and helpful person who fixed it in a minute. read more

I will just give this a one star (or even half star) for "semi-quick" responses (takes 24 hours to get a reply). But everything else was a bad experience with KEH. So I trusted to sell them my lens as it was recommended by one of the channels I subscribed in YouTube. I decided to sell them my Sigma 50-100 1.8 and use the funds to buy me a Full-Frame body. The retail price of the lens brand new is about $1100.00. Along with it was my Sigma 18-35 1.8 which I decided to keep with my D7200. I'm not a full-time photographer. I only had 2 paid jobs when I covered a bridal shower and a birthday party with that lens. I baby'd that lens, as such every photographer out there would get specially investing in a glass that expensive. Again, I baby'd that lens. That is why I was so surprised that find out that they only valued it as low as 43% of the original price ($475.00). I tried making an appeal and email was sent back and forth to clear it out. The claimed that is has bad wear on the lens mount which they sent pictures as proof. I call it BS as my sigma 18-35 1.8 which I kept wasn't worn as bad as they showed. I do admit that I haven't made a thorough check especially on the mount area for the lens before sending it. But nonetheless, pricing it as $475 when it's bought at $1100 is just ridiculous. Long-story short, we somehow negotiated it at $545 (about 50%). But I'm still disappointed. I will not recommend selling your any of your equipment with KEH. I should have known. I will never go back to their site. **EDIT** So I just checked their website (even though I said I won't) and there it is. My lens is finally at the market at selling price of $849.00 "Excellent Plus - rates 90 - 96 % of its original Condition. Exceptionally nice, but might have slight wear on finish visible only on close inspection. Glass will be very clean". Mind you that same lens was originally evaluated at $475.00 from $1100. How could a reputable company give a high remark on an item being sold (@ $849.00), if it was bought and evaluated on a pretty much like a "useless" price? Questionable. read more

I've been a KEH customer since almost the first day they were in business on Spring street in Atlanta. KEH used to have the most conservative grading and honest policies. A couple of yeas ago King Grant the founder of KEH sold the company. Since then prices have gone up, quality down and deceptive policies have been put in place. Recently contacted ten to by a 50mm Leica lens and saw they have a price matching policy. They listed three or four companies but lead me to believe they would match any companies price that had the same item, quality and in stock. I contacted them with a price from Tamarkin Camera in Chicago. Tamarkin has been one of the leading Leica dealers since 1971. I was told to send a link and they would get back. It wound up being late in the day when I got an answer and was refused the price matching offer because Tamarkin wasn't one of the companies on their list. Keh is using tactics to try and lure people in to buy and do not follow through on their promise. Here's a copy from their email. The 400mm had two very large deep scratches in the front element and was mechanically totally worn out. The 200 had been dropped and was not sharp. Impact damage was obvious. I am more fortunate in that I work 8 miles from this location. This allowed me to inspect the equipment on-site which I highly recommend if you pick-up on-site. I bought a camera from KEH and when it came I thought it was not in working condition, I wrote them and got a response right away from Dan, who gave me some insight to what the problem was. The camera I ended up getting was in better than expected condition, and arrived before the date it was supposed to. Wonderful service over five purchases and thousands of dollars, several lenses. HOWEVE if you buy an expensive system such as an SLR please make sure you get their return policy... because when I had a problem the guy tried to convince me to take it to a local shop, I told him then I'd certainly pay those guys at least a consultant's fee.. the KEH guy said no they should handle it for free which is ridiculous. He finally gave me an invoice number when i said what the heck I'll next time spend my five thousand bucks locall in the first place and save the hassle. But overall they've been excellent and the packing is perfect... better than a competitor who lives in nyc Behind the Hill and must remain nameless... who sent an expensive lens shoddily clad. read more

Josh was a great help when I did a phone order to get the Canon camera body I wanted before Coachella. The body was listed as BGN but it was beyond that, It was more like EX/LN since it had original 'sheen' as it were a display model, there were a few knicks that didn't mean much. There were a few kinks in between then and now,their customer service was the best! They were able to exchange the body with no problems at all! The return body was like new with new LCD covers. Everything I have ever purchased from KEH (a couple of film bodies numerous lenses over the years) has worked great and ended up being better shape than what might be implied by KEH's rating system. I wish there were more than 5 stars on Yelp because KEH deserves them! I have bought and sold used camera gear for several years with them. They have gone above and beyond to help me. Once there was a nasty insurance claim issue with my company and they did everything in their power to get my information correct so I could collect on my claim. Today they assisted without hesitation on a warranty concern for my d300 Nikon camera. No quibbling, attitude or groaning. Quick, pleasant and professional to get me back to work and taking care of my customers. Who needs to buy new equipment when KEH has the best used in the market.
