Do not pass this place up. Easily one of the best bars I've been to in the south. I love the rotating brews they have on tap, they do not offer domestics. All are local brews as well. I was here last night for the first time. I seen a post on a food site, talking about keg cowboy having Beef on Weck. I had no idea what that was. I've been wanting to try it. Our lunch group has ventured over to Lexington two times only to find it's not open at lunchtime. They open at 3 PM. I called last week and was told that they serves Beef on Weck only on Fridays. We arrived around 5 o'clock and ordered a velvet yeti beer (a dark IPA )which was excellent. My neighbor and I both ordered the beef on Weck sandwich with extra horseradish. It comes with a side of either a salad, cup of soup or grits. We both opted for the side salad. The sandwich is filled with a lot of beef and came with small containers of raw horseradish, and a creamy horseradish and au jus on the side. We both ordered extra raw horseradish. The Kummelweck bun was really good with just the right amount of salt in Carraway on the top of it. I wish they served the au jus in a larger cup, so you could dip the sandwich on each bite. I would like to go back, but it's tough to get to Lexington on a Friday night. I really wish they served this every day and were open at lunchtime. I will get back for another one sometime in the future. It's definitely worth going there for. read more

Some friends and I stopped in last night and let me just say, we were NOT disappointed one bit! We had Alejandro as our server and he was wonderful, attentive, and really kind. He made sure our checks were correct before bringing them out to us, which was a nice extra measure, honestly! We came into Keg Cowboy ready to EAAAT, we were all starving! We started out with a cheeseboard, pretzel, and bread and EVOO, and we were the happiest campers almost immediately! The bread is fresh fresh fresh, made in house, and baked perfectly. The appetizer presentation was very nice, but it tasted even better. We all ordered a sandwich and some of the tomato soup and we were all very happy with our choices! I got the Caprese Sammy and that fresh mozzarella was a game changer! This sammy was PERFECT for dipping in the tomato soup, which was a side dish, but it deserves its own show! It is available as an entre, as well, and I regretted not ordering the full bowl of soup to go with my Sammy. They have a pretty solid craft beer list that seems to be changed pretty often to keep a good rotation of different beers. Well what happens when you ask a local restaurant what time it opens during the week that doesn't match your busy schedule. Brian opened at least an hour early to accommodate me and my Lexington friends with a smile even though he had a severe head cold. Not only did they open early in a rain storm they served us hot pretzel bread w whole grain mustard pickled onions and pickled grapes and cheeses spreads. Just to get us started ! Red carpet was already rolled out for us , sandwiches and soups were amazing my friends. Not a lot of restaurants will allow you to come in early to relax and get cozy. So if you've read my other reviews, you know I travel the South for work. I had the unfortunate pleasure to have to work out of my hotel so I was able to bail a little early and find a place to eat. This one is about 20 minutes from Irmo. I sat at the bar and was able to snag the waitress/bartender (Jenn) as it was early. We had the discussion about beer and she brought a great one. A Maine Beer Co. Zoe. A nice brown ale that went down wonderfully. I have a question that I use to ask about recommendations. "You can never eat here again...what do you order?" Jenn came back almost immediately with the Cherrywood smoked chicken. "It's great and a butt load of food." How could I turn that down? The chicken was the best smoked chicken I've ever had. As a WW member, I eat a LOT of chicken. The smokey flavor and tender bites were beyond joy. I peel the skin off as that's where the points are and I picked up the rest with my fingers to gnaw down to the bone. It comes with fried kale, which caused a raised eye brow. I tasted and proceeded to scarf like a starving man. It's pan fried with some garlic and olive oil and I ate it all in a heart beat. The potato salad is what the Chef calls original southern potato salad. Just get it. I tried a tasting of the Columbia Craft Lager and the Great Divide Vanilla Oak Yeti and went back to the Maine Co. The chef (Brian) came out and I got to pick his brain. I could go on, but I won't. I'm going to enjoy my beer and book, which is how I dine when I'm on the the road. Go, just go, and have the best dinner you're going to eat in South Carolina. PS. As I was finishing my meal, a couple of guys came in and looked at the menu behind me. I had to give my two cents. One ordered the chicken. Great, now I had to wait till they got their food. His words, "How is this guy not famous." The best kept secret in Lexington/ Columbia. The food is absolutely some of the best cuisine I have ever eaten. The bread is homemade and the mozzarella is hand pulled! I am making a grilled cheese and tomato soup for my supper club and the chef offered for me to come by on Saturday and buy 2 loafs of the homemade bread. Truly unique and amazing food. The service is second to none! The bar tenders and servers are on the ball, so friendly and always there when you need them but not hovering. Love the tables in the window on the sidewalk, definitely a NYC feel to people watch, see and be seen. Also love the laid back vibe, reminds me of an Asheville or Saluda NC watering hole. There is a very good, easy going vibe about this brewery that makes them unique and likable. My husband and I came here with our son last month for an early supper and all three of us enjoyed ourselves. We weren't in a hurry, so we figured we would stop in and see what all the fuss was about this place. After we sat ourselves, our server, J.J. was absolutely wonderful! She was very helpful and knowledgeable about the beer and eclectic food menu. They have a variety of board games to play with and it adds to the laid back, family fun, hipster vibe of the place! We found ourselves at Keg Cowboy when there was an hour plus wait at O'Hara's Public House, and we are so glad we did! Laid back, funky little place with crazy good food and a great drink selection. Met a friend who I had not seen since high school for a beer, we had some munchies too. The beer was good. The atmosphere was good. The service was good. The location was good. The pretzel for the munchies had good presentation. The panini sandwhiches were all about the bread. Full disclosure, not a big panini fan, just too much bread for me, so by the time i removed the bread, there was pretty much nothing left. To me, you might as well eat a loaf of bread. The flash fried kale that came with my cuban panini was good but i have had better. It's actually a bit of an art form to get the kale just right, right amount of oil, right amount of bake time so that it is crispy but not burnt or too soggy. My brief synopsis, if you are meeting folks for drinks and convo, it will meet your need. If you are looking to have a dining experience, you should probably look elsewhere. read more

Not only does Keg Cowboy always have an amazing, if limited, lineup of beers on tap (and a larger selection of bottler beers), they now have the kitchen open. I have never used amazing to describe a sandwich before last night, but I had a truly amazing sandwich. The breads are all made right there in-house; the mozzarella was made there in-house; the picked were made, you guessed it, there in-house; and the produce was local. The menu is small, but so is the kitchen, and they value quality over quantity, which is the way all restaurants should be. That being said, we easily could have split a sandwich and been satisfied, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. As a lacto-ovo vegetarian, I had two sandwiches to choose from, and there was a tomato basil soup that was vegan. Other options included a chicken liver mousse, that my fella hasn't stopper talking about, duck confit, brisket, and pimento cheese. I was personally asked 3 times by different servers if I needed anything during the time of the event. I appreciated that because the first time I didn't, but when the next person asked, I did. We went here for date night a few weeks ago, which it's such a fun place for that. They have great beers and wines, appetizer plates, and food. My favorite is the pimiento cheese dip with bread pieces along with a glass of wine!!! Soooo good. Customer service is great and the atmosphere is fun. It's not a place that I'd really bring kids. I sat at the bar and ordered an IPA and wheat beer on tap (can't tell you the names because I forget!) For my dinner I was debating between the SOS platter and the pork belly, but the sweet bartender informed me the pork belly is a fleeting offering whereas the Duck SOS is a regular. Based on that, and knowing I'd be back eventually, I opted for the belly which came with potatoes, shrooms, & onions. The pork belly was perfectly done and melted in my mouth, and the seasoning on the veggies was perfect. I saw fellow barmates order the SOS and asked their opinion and they were raving about it. It comes with a fried egg on top and looked rich and indulgent. I'll definitely be back on my next business stint to have a taste of that myself.
