Well, it was interesting to discover a well regarded Glatt Kosher restaurant right in Canneragio,…read moreright over the Ponte delle Guglie near the Ghetto Ebraico (where the term Ghetto originated in the early 1500's.). It was a bit too cool once the sun went down, so we moved inside. Everything was excellent, Matzo Ball soup, lamb chops, hummus with mushrooms. Nice service. We were there on the early side but by the time we left the place was filled. If you have hopes to dine, especially during season, make a reservation for sure.

While the food wasn't bad, it didn't make good on the promise of a different kind of cuisine in Venice. The food was tasty enough, but the eggplant and pasta were both just solid versions of dishes readily available throughout the city. The eggplant was touted as a signature dish, but was merely an echo of others throughout the area. Aside from the hint of tahini it would be indistinguishable. Similarly, the tagliatelle pasta with salmon did little to make itself memorable. I believe that these dishes reflect the Kosher dining experience, but our high hopes were nonetheless dashed by their mediocrity. Gam Gam is not a breath of fresh air, although maybe we would have been happier had we thought of it as just another restaurant. After all, tomato sauce makes almost anything delicious.

Also, it's a great place to stop in for a Schlitz cocktail after a Venezia F.C. victory. Note: A Schlitz cocktail is a traditional Venetian cocktail that only the locals know about! You should order one. You can do it by saying, "Un Schlitz cocktail, per favore!"

We had decided on some meat and cheese tapas with some nice wine and headed back towards the Coop. In our way there we passed by the Pizza N Kebab and I thought why not? We went in and the first thing I noticed was their large pizza slices, but I wasn't there for pizza. There were actually no kebabs on the menu despite it being part of the restaurants name. But no matter, I wasn't there for kebabs either. Looking at their limited yet simple menu I spotted what I was looking for, Shawarma! Another quick look around behind the counter and I saw a spit with chicken roasting on it, a nice deep brown, perfect! The shawarma and drink combo was a paltry €5,5. Yes, I say paltry because compared to everything else, this was a relatively inexpensive meal! Pizza slice and drink was €4,5! The owners let us have the drink of our choice, soda, beer, wine, water without any up charge, that's right, even beer or wine. sweet deal! But we were still going to have wine back at the apartment so I went with a soda. The pita wasn't homemade, but it was heated in the stone oven to warm it up and give a slight crisp to the outside. The shawarma meat was shave thin and I had it with the works; onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and their homemade special spicy sauce. The veggies were pretty fresh, and their protein to veggie ratio barely gets a passing grade. The shawarma meat was chicken, and they used an electric shaver to retrieve the meat. The meat was a big hunk, much like the consistency of Gyro meat. To me this was a bit disappointing. The only other thing to note was their special sauce. They must have been catering to the tourists, because it was only ever so slightly spicy. It was also more creamy, and mayonnaise was definitely an ingredient. A second disappointment... Overall, the shawarma was not a shawarma at all in my opinion. The meat had the consistency and texture of the roast beef you find at Arby's, and the sauce was something foreign. While the veggies held their own, it wasn't enough to save the dish. 2 stars from me. If you would like to experience more, come dine-with-me.yelp.com I'd love to have your company... Buon Appetito!
