I…read morehappened to be in the Waverley Gardens shopping centre and found this place and decided to give this place a try. Big mistake !! I decided to forgo the pita bread (carbs) and ordered the 'lamb' Kebab plate. When I received my plate, I was immediately underwhelmed by the stingy amount of meat in the portion served. This turned out to be a blessing in any case. The 'lamb' was so over oiled and seasoned that's could have easily passed as canned tuna. Did not taste like lamb at all. The salad with the plate was dry and definitely not fresh. They did provide a wrap/pita which I noted was very dry, and was as malleable as a dry cardboard box. (I did not eat this pita due to carbs, but assume it tasted as bad as it looked ). Not sure if I was unlucky and just got a bad meal (as I recall having 'okay' Ali Bab elsewhere ) but my advice is to avoid this place if you are used to good kebab meats and fresh salads !!

I have no idea if there are cleanliness problems in the kitchen here or not, but seeing a cockroach skittering along the wall just a few inches from your food is pretty off-putting. On the plus side, all of the flavours here are very nice, and portion sizes are large. Prices are also inexpensive compared to the other Afghan restaurants nearby (which seem to thrive more on the $30+ pp "banquet" style of dining.) This place is definitely more casual than those places though. It's kind of along the lines of a kebab shop in terms of atmosphere, although the food is nicer. I came here with my boyfriend and another friend. My boyfriend and I had the Qabuil Palow with spinach, an Afghan dish that is also naturally vegan (no dairy, no egg). I had the "A" version (with orange, pistachio, and almond) and my boyfriend had the "B" version (with carrots and sultanas). The sweet and savoury were perfectly blended and the flavours of both dishes were really interesting and enjoyable. Our friend had the lamb shami kebab and said it was good. I don't really know what to say except that this place was headed to 4 or 5 stars in my book until the cockroach sighting occurred. Go with caution.

After trying many Thai restaurants in the area and also further out, we had no luck, until we tried Ghin Thai! The closets thing to our fav Thai restaurant and bonus it is close to home! The food is fresh and fragrant and very tasty! We had the following: - chicken satay skewers - Roti bread (came with a peanut dipping sauce) - Tom Yum fried rice (chicken) - Red Curry (Chicken) - BBQ honey & Soy chicken All this food was so delicious and very tasty. The servings are quite generous and pricing is reasonable good for what you get. You can eat in (it's a small place but quite nice for the area it is in) or you can take away. Service is very friendly. This is definitely our new Thai take out!
