Almost invisable crust on the meat lovers

20 YEARS OF LOYALTY DESTROYED: A $95.50 DISASTER AND THE PIZZA THAT FORGOT ITS PINEAPPLE After two decades--two decades!--of proudly proclaiming Keating Pizza made the best pies on Vancouver Island, I am forced to write this retraction, a bitter epitaph to a love affair with quality crust and fresh ingredients. My recent experience was nothing short of a spectacular failure, a betrayal of the standard I had foolishly come to guarantee. I placed an order for two medium Take-and-Bake pizzas on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, specifically intending to transport them across the country to showcase your supposed excellence in Alberta. I paid the premium price--a shocking $95.50 for two take-and-bakes--and expected perfection. What I received was culinary chaos. The issues started with a bewildering pickup experience. I arrived early for my 4:30 PM scheduled time, only to be told the pizzas were already "ready" at 3:45 PM. Was my order made hours in advance, compromising the quality of the dough before it even hit the freezer? I requested they be refrigerated, paid the exorbitant fee, and was then handed two Extra Large pizzas instead of the requested two medium. The size difference was substantial for two people, and I wasted precious ferry time waiting for the order to be remade. The true horror, however, unfolded when we finally baked them. The Ham & Pineapple pie was an existential question mark. The crust was not thin; it was a pathetic, virtually transparent membrane--a fragile ghost of the hearty dough I remember. Most offensively, this so-called "Pineapple" pizza contained not a single piece of pineapple. It was a plain ham pizza, offensively priced, and utterly inedible due to the structural integrity of a damp napkin. The Meat-lovers was marginally better, in the way that a broken leg is better than a severed limb, but the crust was still a poor, substandard imitation of your former glory. Keating Pizza, you didn't just fail to meet an expectation; you actively humiliated me. I was forced to retract years of boasting, replacing praise with apologetic excuses for the absolute garbage that emerged from my oven. For $95.50, I received a dose of profound disappointment and one pizza that should have never left your kitchen. You need to look closely at your current operations. If this is the new standard, the legend of the "best pizza on Vancouver Island" is over.

It's almost too good. Sliced so big one fills me. I'm 265 and work my butt off carrying heavy things. But then slices heavy as a mo fo.

    Awful and expensive

Should've read the reviews. Just wanted a quick slice. $15.50 for two small pieces of lukewarm overcooked cheese pizza. NEVER again!

the pizza is so delicious!strongly recommend! The service is great! Outstanding pizza spot! The pizzas were incredibly delicious--perfectly crafted with a delightful blend of flavors. The crust was just the right balance of crispy and chewy. The overall dining experience was fantastic, and the staff was friendly and efficient. If you're a pizza lover, this place is a must-try. I'll definitely be coming back for more!

Does this look like a pizza slice that should cost you almost $7.00 for one slice?

I regret to write this review but the time has come. I've been coming to this place for years while working in the area. The business has changed ownership. The price of pizza by the slice has always been high but the old owners made sure you got what you paid for meaning huge slices of loaded pizza and 3/4's of the time they would give you an extra half slice or even an extra slice all together to compensate for the super high ticket price being like $6.50 per slice. Since the new owners have taken over the pizza has gotten chintzier and chintzier. The slices are thinner with less toppings and never are you given more than just the one slice. I just bought one and knew immediately they jacked me, I could tell by the weight of it and when I saw it it was visibly half assed. The pizza is still good but extremely over priced and the restaurant is consistently making them more and more downsized.

Keating Pizza is one of the best pizzas around. They are jam packed full on toppings and the cheese, there's sooo much cheese. It's affordable for the price and tastes really good. I'd recommend the Hawaiian special, it's delicious. If you don't feel like pizza though, they make excellent baked lasagna too. Keating Pizza is my go-to place for all things pizza.

    Amazing slice!

New recipes are 1/2 as good as the old ones & the toppings are just sad, about 1/3 the amount previously.

I ordered a tropical Hawaiian pizza and it was crammed with ham, pineapple and cheese on top of slightly sweet and smoky bbq sauce- absolutely the best pizza I've had since moving to the island. I asked for added mushrooms and got a generous helping of those as well. Price was in line with (and even a little less than) comparable pizzas in the Sidney area. Keep up the good work!

Very cozy family-run feel to the place with local bulletins and kids' drawings posted on the wall. Other than that, it's quite cramped so there's not much to see inside and there's only street parking in the area. Even so, people were picking up pizzas nonstop which is never a bad sign, plus the staff were friendly and got the pizza done quickly. It tasted great! We ordered pepperoni and bacon with extra cheese, and they were not shy with any of the toppings. They place them below the cheese layer with large sheets of pepperoni - That's a pretty rare style on the mainland and I personally prefer it to more traditional types. The crust wasn't a highlight but it fit the role pretty well. For negatives, I can see how the sweeter pizza sauce can be divisive, and the bacon topping was the crumbled type which is hit or miss. We'll be back when we're on the island for sure.

The vibes inside are immaculate as a kind of barnyard chic and the pizza topping combos are hyperlocal and fascinatingly unique you have to give them a try. Unfortunately my first time trying a pizza place must always be a simple cheese pizza so that's what I ended up with this time. The crust is cooked a little extra charred which can work well as long as the dough is moist enough, oiled well, and the pizza has enough flavor overall to balance it out. I wouldn't say that was the case here but I think there are many, particular NY/NJ/CT area folks who might prefer this style. Overall the pizza was just OK for me, a bit too dry from the extra cooktime/char and maybe dough hydration, the sauce not being as refreshing and bright as I like, the cheese as bursting with creamy milkiness as I want on these types of pies. But it still hits the spot and I'm happy I stopped here at such a cool little spot on such a great island. But for Whidbey Island pizza I'll probably stick with Village Pizzaria for now. Who knows, I didn't get to try the cocktails here so may need to come back for that. I did also get a smoked carrot dish that was a bit underwhelming for how cool it sounded, just a bit too much acid and fat without a lot of spice and flavor to balance everything out. Still may come back for the dinner-only pastas, I'm simply too intrigued by the chic menu recipes and chillaxing vibes here.

Once seated, we had to ask the hostess for silverware. Started w the grilled asparagus ($25) - tasty sauce of garlic scapes, topped with pretty purple flowers that added no flavor. Good flavor, but for 6 stalks this was kinda insane. Scallop crudo ($30) was disappointing - scallop was minimal, very overwhelmed by the rhubarb. Would have expected the ratio to be balanced. Beautiful dish, no less, but this should have been called a rhubarb crudo to accurately reflect the dish. Again, insanely low volume of food. For pizzas, we got the poh-tay-toh ($28) and Gus Gus ($27 - asparagus, green garlic, tarragon, mozzarella, parm). These were more redeeming than the apps, tasty, but not ground shattering. Understandably the "ambiance" was expected since did not have reservations, but even then, the exterior was dusty and we did not feel the staff was present. Outdoor restroom was a step up from a hiking trailhead bathroom. The establishment inside is very nice so YMMV, but our experience was less than stellar. Overall, disappointed by the experience. Pizza was good, but extremely meager portions for the appetizers. It seems the focus of each dish was appearance rather flavor.
