I have never written a yelp review. In fact, I had to create an account in order to write this review. The Perkins Road location of Kean's is the worst dry cleaners I have ever used. I am an attorney and have to dry clean lots of clothes on a regular basis. I have used multiple dry cleaners in New Orleans, Lafayette, and Baton Rouge. Kean's is awful.
My first bad experience with Kean's was in April 2017. They cracked mother of pearl buttons on shirts and gave them back to me. These issues were clearly visible in the clear dry cleaning bags. When I brought the shirts back after discovering the damage, they were repaired by Kean's in-house tailor. They butchered my shirts. There were holes where buttons used to be. They replaced the cracked mother of pearl buttons with cheap plastic ones that were so small they could not even serve as shirt buttons. The cheap replacement buttons did not match the other buttons on the shirt, and the stitch work was incredibly sloppy. Needless to say, I was disappointed.
Moreover, considering their exorbitantly high and arbitrary pricing, one would assume that Kean's would produce superior work for superior dry cleaning prices. WRONG. This assumption could not be further from the truth. If you have time, I highly recommend ironing your own shirts or bringing them elsewhere, because they will always look better and have less damage than Kean's.
When I saw their subpar repair work, I informed the cashier that I needed this fixed. I asked her who did their sewing because it looked incredibly unprofessional. She was rude to me and told me that was all they were willing to do. I advised her that my shirts were still unwearable and needed the buttons sewn on and the holes they created darned. When I picked up the shirt for a second time, there was marginal improvement, but it was still damaged and had a mismatched button, so it can no longer be worn. I was extremely dissatisfied with this experience with Kean's but decided to give them a second chance.
My second bad experience with Kean's was in May 2017. I brought a simple white shirt to have starched for my grandmother's funeral. I picked up the shirt a day before the funeral and discovered a cigarette burn in the back of the shirt. This was alarming due to the fact that the funeral was a day away. I had to drive to Saks in New Orleans to replace the shirt and iron it myself. It was a life diminishing experience. For over a month, the manager and cashier engaged in e-mails, dodged phone calls, etc. about remedying the cigarette burn on my shirt. Eventually they offered to replace it, but getting to that end result was such a headache. Scenarios such as these are why people bring items to the cleaners. The idea is to create convenience, not chaos.
My third bad experience with Kean's was in February 2018. I brought a silk knit polo shirt with a snag on it to be cleaned and repaired. Due to my unsavory experiences with them in the past, I was sure to reiterate that the shirt was silk and what that entails in term of cleaning. When I picked up the silk shirt, I saw that it was on a hanger, starched, with odd pilling near the upper shoulders, and still had the snag that was the basis of my visit. This was odd because the shirt had only been worn once. I asked them why they would hang a silk knit on a wire hanger with no padding. She had no answer. I then asked her why the silk shirt had been starched. It was stuck to the hanger there was so much starch (silk cannot get wet and does not require starching). She had no answer for this. Keep in mind, this is the same cashier to whom I gave detailed instructions. This result confounded me due to the fact that I went to so much effort to prevent any one of these many screw ups. I then asked her why the snag was not repaired, because that was why I brought the shirt to Kean's. They charged me for the repair and told me it would take an indefinite amount of time to fix every time I picked up my other dry cleaning. (Kean's is regularly late with your clothes). Weeks later, I finally got the shirt back, but it was still on a wire hanger, with starch in it. At this point, I decided Kean's only had one more strike.
After Mardi Gras, I brought a tuxedo shirt and two suits to have cleaned for their 5 piece special. When I picked up my suits, the cashier told me that my shirt wasn't ready. I confirmed with her that it was paid in full per the 5 piece special. She confirmed. When I attempted to pick up the shirt, Precious told me "there's still money on this check." She then insulted me and used foul language and put her manager on speakerphone while they effectively held me and my clothes hostage. I refused to return after this ridiculous incident of verbal abuse, and had a friend pick up the shirt today. To my dismay, the tuxedo shirt is lightly starched, with sloppy pressing and random creases.
Do not go to Kean's! They will curse at you and perform late and sloppy work! read more
