The studio was the only "official" studio for taking senior pictures at my daughter's high school. This kind of arrangement gives me bad feeling as no matter good or bad the result is, we will be stuck with it. Even though we can find a better photographer with the photos we like, we cannot use them for the senior picture. So, we made appointment and had the picture taken. When results came out, we selected the one we preferred. Then, when the photo was delivered, it was not the one that we requested and all the shots of that day have been removed from their website by the time the photo was delivered, so we have no way to argue or confirm that we have selected a different one. In addition, my credit card was charged twice for the same service. When I called them to report this error, they cannot issue a refund, and I have to file a claim from my bank to have the issue resolved. For this experience, I would say the customer service at the studio is simply very bad. We ended up spent money to get a photo that we did not want in the first place. read more

I was suckered into going here for a bunny session with a Groupon offer. I will not be going back nor will I recommend this studio to my friends. The session was a little fun and lasted all of 15-20 minutes. My daughter was enjoying the bunnies and ducks. But, the PRICES are outrageous!! I almost didn't buy anything, but how could I resist my cute daughter with cute baby animals?! Anyway, I didn't want to spend more than $250 and all I got were 5 PRINTS of 2 poses. I would have rather had the digital photos but they were only offered with higher priced packages with all the junk I didn't want or need. And the price for all of the digitals...$850! I paid $250 to have my daughter's 6 month photos done on location and received a disc of all edited images. I have also since noticed another studio has discs for $150 for all images. Keane studios needs to get with the times and offer more affordable digital options! read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. They promised and did not deliver. They couldn't take the most simple directions. The editing? I spoke to a real professional and showed the work this studio gave me and the answer was clear: they use a ONE CLICK editing system! A filter! I would not recommend this studio or use them again. I did the bunny portrait sitting for Easter. Got a call saturday (the day before easter) that my portraits would be ready for pickup in the next three hours or I could come in sometime next week. Seriously? Why book a bunny portrait sitting if you can't deliver the product prior to easter? When I asked at the time of order if they would be ready prior to the holiday she looked at me like I was asking for the impossible. My advice is if you use them for a christmas photo be sure to book it sometime in september. The pricing is outrageous. It's the most I have ever paid and I walked away not ordering half of what I wanted. Would have spent more money if the pricing schedule was not so skewed towards expensive packages with touchups. I had to make three trips to the studio- one for the sitting, one to view and order (can't you do this online?), and then one to pick up the three photos I ordered (I spent nearly $200). The photographer and his wife are great with kids, they are very nice, and they take their time, but after I was kept waiting for over 15 min for the sitting and then the viewing, I took some time to look at the work. It's standard portrait work. And nice does not make up for everything else. Please work with your office staff, I found them to be as the other reviewer mentioned, pretentious. Like it's an honor for me to do business with you. I thought long and hard about leaving a negative review- it's my first, but my overall experience really left me feeling like I was treated poorly and just did not receive the level of service/product for the effort and money. read more

It's hard to review these guys because I'm so in the middle. Pros: Really cute pictures with amazing little Easter animals. My girls had an amazing time holding a duckling, a chick, and a baby bunny. The pictures captured the joy they felt. Cons: The price! I had no idea that pictures could be this much. To get all of pics. on a CD is in the thousands. Seriously. That much. If you get the original, untouched pics. on a CD it's right around $850. I did not know this going in. The building is absolutely gorgeous, the people were nice, and the pics. are adorable. If I were made of money, I'd break 'em off some and buy all sorts of packages here at Keane. If you are not looking to spend a couple grand, you best keep on shopping for a photographer. read more

I really hope that the pictures will be worth all the hustle and this ridiculous price tag... that is if we ever going to see them... been over 3 weeks (been told should take 2 weeks at the time of our appointment), been trying to reach someone for over a week now, left numerous voicemails, submitted a form online (someone responded saying they don't have anything under that name (!), I responded back with our confirmation, no response and it's been over 24 hours, online chat feature is obsolete, I tried it several times, always the same message, operators are not available, this is supposed to be a happy occasion but if you cannot even get ahold of anyone if you have any questions , it's pretty hard getting all happy and excited, I do agree with other reviewers that there should be another choice for seniors, in this case they have monopoly and can dictate the prices and how they do business (if they are not professional enough to organize a better communication then it's hard to trust them with doing professional job taking pics!) read more

I had a portrait done of myself and my newborn daughter over 30 years ago. It had started to fade in a strange way a few years ago, and I put it away, thinking I was just going to be stuck with it. I contacted Bill last Fall and he said, 'Bring it in, we'll see what we can do.' I met with Bill and he acknowledge there had been a problem with development back then, leading to the uneven fading. I left the portrait with him, and hoped for the best. It took a while, but Bill was diligent in finding a solution to the problem. The portrait had to be sent out of the country, and it took a little time, but the result is a beautiful, museum-quality portrait that looks better than the original. AND they did it at their cost! The depths Bill went to to find a solution to my problem are impressive and I am thrilled with the result. read more

She clearly didn't want to be there and was dressed inappropriately for a professional environment. Her tone was rude and she was not helpful or friendly at all. I have to say that I am completely shocked that there is even one negative review of Keane Studios on Yelp! Bill Keane is an incredibly gifted photographer. He takes his work seriously and is a talented artist as well as a genuinely nice man. I have used Bill repeatedly to photograph my entire family, for two rounds of senior portraits, for bunny/duck photos (I took my teenagers to do this and it was great!). Bill has personally gone out of his way to accommodate me with photography sessions at my home, at a horse ranch, and at a variety of other not-so-easy locations with no extra charge and always with a smile. I have also worked with his staff photographers who are professional, friendly, and good at what they do. In the age of digital photography, it's becoming increasingly difficult for photographers to sell their service and products. Many people would prefer to snap and print their own photos. I do my fair share of this, as my background is in graphic design and art (including digital imaging). Also, I don't have an unlimited budget. However, when I want a truly professional photograph, I always use Keane Studios. Of course it's more expensive to have a professional photographer, professional retouching, and high quality printing. I feel that Bill charges a reasonable price for the level of professionalism and quality that I have always received from his studio. Everyone who comes to my home comments on the photos that he has taken and I never hesitate to recommend Keane Studios. I respect that others may have different opinions of Keane Studios, but please don't hesitate to give this studio a chance to provide you with beautiful photos at industry standard (or below) pricing. We have been working with Bill since 2012. We have loved every single piece of work he has produced of our boys. He is incredibly professional and very easy to work with. One of my favorite photo shoots he does is during Easter time with the baby bunnies and chicks. The boys absolutely love this photo shoot and the pictures turn out great. The team at Keane has been easy to work with. Our first family portrait did not turn out as we had hoped and none of us liked it. Strange color touch ups and awkward seating positions for the 6 of us. Mind you, we chose it, so certainly can't blame it all on Keane. Kim was very responsive to our needs and offered to re shoot the portrait, free of charge. Our entire family was not going to be in SD for another year, but they remembered us and honored their word to make things right. On April 18 I received an email from Keane Studios that I was a runner up in a contest from Fox 5 TV. The prize includes a family portrait session with a 14" commissioned fine art portrait with hand artistry. After registering on their site and leaving two voicemails, I decided to try a third time (I had a few questions about my prize.).To my amazement I finally got a hold of someone. Unfortunately, it was an extremely rude, condescending woman! I explained that to her that I have been trying to get a hold of them, but no one calls me back. She informed that she only does senior portraits and that I need to have patience because they are busy (Her tone was snarky to say the least). Waiting three weeks, not raising my voice, with no one calling me back is being very patient. Regardless, she took down my phone number while starting to laugh. She said someone will call me back. Needless to say, I'm not holding my breath. Rude! After reading other reviews, it seems like a lot of customers had bad experiences with senior portraits. Gee I wonder why?... read more

We just received our family portrait (courtesy of a coupon from Acura) and could not be happier with it! BUYER BEWARE....This is a perfect example of customer service when there is no competition because you are REQUIRED to use them as a vendor. If I could put ZERO STARS...I would. I have never written a bad review but feel this may help future potential customers make their decision. This has been an exhausting experience from beginning to end (3.5 months) so I'll try to stick to the facts: -More than 5 voice messages left with no response and this was just to set up the initial appointment. -Paid over $700 for the "sitting fees" and 9 digital photos. Yes $734.32!!! -Paid for those 9 digital prints on Oct. 27, 2016 and today is Dec 5th. I JUST RECEIVED THE LAST 3 DIGITAL PICTURES TODAY! (after another 3 emails with no response in the last week, and a phone call to them this morning). By the way, they would only touch up 3 shots. It was over $1000 to get the other 6 touched up as well. As a student of SDA we were forced to use them if you want your picture in the yearbook. Once you pay for hair, makeup, and the sitting fees, it is hard to justify doing it all over again somewhere else. One good thing-Dave, our first photographer was professional and took some beautiful shots. The beach shots were a waste of money though. The photographer was rushed or inexperienced, shadows, posture, lighting...we could barely find 1 picture we liked. We could have asked for another photo shoot but who wants to pay for hair and makeup twice because the studio doesn't take care of you and look out for it's clients the first time around. If I had to do it all over again, I would have my daughter go in for the "free" 1 head shot (so it better be good) for the year book and spend your money with a real photographer that cares about your experience and the photos you are paying so much money for. I'm pretty sure for $700.00 many photographers will give you more than 3 touched up digital photos. read more

I find this company truly egregious in their efforts to fleece students and their families for photos. I don't know how they have been able to lock up the contract for the San Dieguito school system. I hope the school board will reconsider their contract and based on the extremely poor reviews for this company, there are many more parents that agree with me. First off, their prices are so high that only the most obsessive parents (or those emotionally vulnerable) are likely to order the senior portraits. For my daughter's senior picture, she took the required photo for the yearbook at Keane but rather than pay the exorbitant price to order a set of prints, we hired a professional photographer to come to our house for a complete photo session. We then ordered a set of prints and the total cost was still less that Keane's price for a comparable set of prints! And with a private photographer, we got an hour-long session with multiple settings, indoor and out. At Keane, it's like a cattle call where they usher kids in and out with about a 5 minute session with only one backdrop. I would urge parents to explore alternate options before booking senior portraits with Keane (and I can even recommend a photographer if you send me a request!). The latest example of their egregious behavior is with the graduation pictures taken at the ceremony this last Friday. Since you have to sit so far away at the Torrey Pines ceremony, it's virtually impossible to get a photo of your kid receiving their diploma. The only way to get the photo, of course, is through Keane. So I went to order the photo this morning and the lowest priced option for the one photo is $18. OK that seemed fairly reasonable and since it's a once in a lifetime thing, I figure it's worth it. But when you go to check out on their website, they make the minimum order $20. So in other words, the minimum order is $36. This is a perfect example of the behavior I find so distasteful. In their effort to appear reasonable, they make the photo packages $18 but by making the minimum order $2 more than that, they are using a backhanded approach to make the lowest priced package $36. Why be so sneaky? Why not be up front with the actual price to order? The answer, I firmly believe, is that they are fully aware of the outrageous price for their photos and have found an effective tactic to convince emotionally vulnerable parents into indulging in photos of their child's achievement. While this practice is perfectly legal, I find it morally wrong. This company has a dishonorable approach to business. I urge all parents to boycott buying their photos and make their displeasure known so the school board reviews their practices. read more

Not all parents at SDA are keen on Keane. The pricing is outageous. The portaits mediocre at best and the professional staff are pretentious and condescending. They do not openly share the $12 sitting fee for year book only photos; so parents fork out $50 dollars to get a sitting and then the the minimum pack for purchase is 195 dollars for 2 8 x10 photos- a dvd withone image is 295 dollar- They ought to be ashamed of themselves. I had a poor experience with this studio from beginning to end. 1) I was asked to choose from 3 dates for my daughter's sitting. This was at the beginning of Febuary. Even though I was told they would tell me my date in a few days, I didn't receive an e-mail until *March*. 2) We arrived a few minutes early for my appointment, and when we arrived they were still photographing the family of three before us. This continued for another twenty minutes into my session time while I tried to keep my curious 3 year old occupied and from messing up her dress. Bill did not acknowledge me once even though he kept looking at me. When it was my turn, no one apologized for keeping me waiting for almost 30 minutes. Finally, the real insult was that my daughter's shoot was barely 10 minutes because they were running behind! 3) Their prices are OUTRAGEOUS! I worked at a high-end studio for years, and the profit margin this studio is making is over the moon. I say that a business has the right to charge whatever they want, but Keane studios also uses aggressive and underhanded techniques to try and force your hand. Each of their highly overpriced packages are generally only for one pose, forcing you to buy mulitiple ones. If you spend $70 for a single digital file ($400 for all your session photos), what you receive are low-res images that are only good for Facebook, again forcing you to purchase prints. Prints, btw, start at $95! My photos were only online for five days and they don't allow you to order from their website. You have to call them or what they really want is for you to come in for a session with their salesman so they can upsell you on their larger packages. I was badgered on the phone when I tried to place a small order since I wasn't about to pay their crazy prices. (For a regular photoshoot, you apparently have to pay $195 to have your images put online for a week, btw.) 4) After everything, my image is completely unretouched with muddy colors and obvious smudge marks on the floor. Color correction is the bare minimum that should be done for all photos and takes less than a moment. As would removing the smudges. I know, it's what I do professionally. Oh, and they charged me $10 to mail one photo that apparently they assume weighs as much as a dictionary. Easily the worst experience I have ever had having portraits taken, and I've had them done everywhere. Perhaps I'm over-sensitive, but we just did a large family (10 people) shoot with an amazing photographer named Alex Calegari. Alex shot us for an extra thirty minutes without charging more, gave us all our beautiful images on dvd, and put them on a website charging very fair prices for prints (about $9 for an 8x10). All this for $99. It's hard to go from that to an experience like I had with Keane Studios. All I'm saying is shop around. You can do SO much better, even at very well established studios. read more

This studio pricing is a TOTAL rip off! Want to charge 200+ dollars for rights to use 1 photo on a graduation announcement. All portrait poses look alike..."keane's clones". They are so 80's..you remember the posed school poses we all hated as kids! Have a real photographer like Lauren Taylor do your photo's(laurentaylorphoto.com)! She's awesome and will do hundred's of photo's without forcing you to refinance your house to use them! read more

I took Torrey Pines High School senior portraits at Keane Studios in August 2004. Although it was a long time ago, I wanted to write a review about how great my experience with this company was. The staff is friendly and the location is superb. The quality of the pictures as well as the presentation itself was awesome. Although it is a little pricey, it is well worth the QUALITY. I totally read all these reviews before heading there this week with my daughter for her yearbook photo. Going in, I already knew we would not be using them for her "photo shoot" - we're all about owning the digital images and most photographers offer that as "the" package, where Keane offers each digital image at ridiculous prices in addition to having to order pricey prints, etc. I think their system is very old school. Nonetheless, we had the TakeTenSession in one outfit primarily for the yearbook head shot. They took about 20 photos. We received an email with instructions to view the proofs. All were super nice although not necessarily framed/cropped well. There was no extra fee to view anything, and there is the option to pick the pose you want for the yearbook at no cost. End of yearbook photo story. Their website ordering layout is not up to date and very hard to get through - finding the free yearbook pose order area is tucked away under all the crazy expensive packages. They could use a new website storefront. read more

I will give the photographer and the quality of the pictures a 5. I left the viewing almost in tears. How can they use this place for public high school yearbook photos? I just got my son's done somewhere else 2 years ago and it was easy and not ridiculously expensive. I paid for the indoor/outdoor photo shoot. Figured I'd get the graduation announcements at the same time as her senior portrait. $195 for 24 announcements that have only 4 photos and I don't get any proofs. They charge $175 for each digital image. 1 image! I can get all the images for $395, but in very low quality only used for social media. What? If I want all of the images full resolution unretouched, $995. Heartbreaking. I thought it would be really fun and maybe I'd get a few wallets and the 75 announcements that I need, for a few hundred dollars. Nope. Are they aware that people are out of work due to Covid? I get that they need to make money, but they won't from people coming for senior portraits unless they bring down prices. read more

About 2 weeks ago I took my two daughters to Keane Studios for their annual Bunny Portrait Sessions. This is the second time I have visited Keane Studios. The first time was back in 2006 when my oldest daughter was only two years old. Keane Studios was great then, and it's even greater now! My daughters had the privilege to be photographed by Michele. She was patient and knew children. She knew she had to be quick- especially with my two year old. If it wasn't the flowers that distracted Emma, it was the curvy wall behind her.... But then they brought out the bunnies... Who could resist a sweet baby bunny called Honey Bunny? Soft and tiny, perfect for little hands. Perfect for beautiful Easter photographs! Everything about the portraits I love. From the lighting, to the posing (or sometimes lack there of, which is a good thing), to the pure delight in the smiles of the girls. The smiles on their faces were not staged in any way. Michele captured the priceless grins and laughs of the girls. I would HIGHLY recommend Keane Studios! read more

I have taken both my children to Keane for their senior portraits. I was not happy with my son's portraits as first and said so. They didn't argue but rebooked the shoot at no extra cost. The second time we went with examples of what we were looking for and they exceeded our expectations. My daughter's portraits were beautiful at the first attempt. If you are looking for them to photograph a senior portrait, I would recommend both the studio and outdoor shoot. You get a lot of photos to choose from because if your child is like most people, it takes many attempts to get a truly beautiful photo. Even professional models take lots of frames so a typical teenager will also need multiple frames to get the shot you're looking for. Photography is an art form and it can be expensive. I'm happy the sitting fee is low because that means if I didn't like the photos, I'm not out a lot of money. But I believe you get what you pay for and I will pay more for quality photo printing and enhancing when the photo is a special one. Photo retouching is a skill that requires expertise, knowledge and ability. I'm paying for that expertise and that's what I expect. I also want to make sure I'm dealing with a reputable company when they are photographing my children. It is important to communicate what you want to the photographer. He's not a mind reader. Visuals are better than words because he is a visual artist. Take photo examples of what you want to help him understand what you are looking for. The school has to contract with someone for the yearbook. If you don't want them to take your child's senior portraits, outside the yearbook photo, don't go there. No one is forcing you to have a photo shoot and order prints. Educate yourself, read the information on the emails and forms, ask questions about your options and be considerate of professionals. They are in business to make a living but they are there also to make sure you leave happy. read more

Used Keene Studios for senior pictures as required by SDUHSD. The photographer made my daughter feel comfortable. We paid for "multiple" outfit changes and props. Be aware "multiple" means max of 3 outfits. Appreciated the Saturday hours because the studio's regular hours are not convenient nor is the office location convenient to coastal north county. Not impressed with the final product. I spent $800+ for collage and 5 digital photos. The touch up coloring on the photos is inconsistent -- some are very light, others are dark -- there is a lot of background within the picture -- needs additional cropping. Get required yearbook pics taken here, but find another studio for professional senior pictures. read more

It has become an annual tradition to bring our 7 year old daughter for portraits at Keane Studios since she was just 1 year old! We have done portraits at Wind-and-Sea beach, Carlsbad flower fields and with bunnies and ducks either at their studio or at one of their off site locations. It is a classic portrait studio with very professional, experienced, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Bill Keane is so good with children and definitely knows how to bring out the best expressions in them. High quality photos that are unique and reasonably priced for the unsurpassed quality that I have only found at Keane Studios over the years. i highly recommend Keane Studios for valuable photos to cherish memories and milestones for many years to come. read more

Just got the TPHS Graduation 2011 CD and pics. This is $79. The video is only couple minutes long and only covered last highlight of students throwing the caps up. No other coverage for rest of the 2 hour event. Very terrible production for such a high price. Parents and guests were sat far away and I thought the video could be a great memobilia. Very wrong. I so wanted to like this place. My family won an online giveaway and was promised one free session and a free digital file of one photo. When I asked the representative who called, she said I would be able to print that digital file elsewhere. Our photo shoot was a whole ordeal which I won't go into because it wasn't really their fault but then I drove from Oceanside to view my photos, picked the one I liked only to be told it was only a file the can be viewed on social media, mobile devices and computers. I feel like they completely wasted my time. I honestly wouldn't of gone all the way from Oceanside to downtown La Jolla (with a three year old) for the shoot and then from Oceanside to Carmel valley for the viewing if I had known it was only a file I could share on social media. I'm not huge into social media so it doesn't serve much purpose for me. I feel like they weren't upfront with me and just wanted me to come in so that I would buy one of their expensive packages. I was so looking forward to a nice photo to hang in my phone but instead all I have is a tiny photo on my phone. So disappointing. read more

I do not recommend Keane Studios. They are over priced and dont do a very good job taking pictures and don't give a lot of direction.. Then when it comes time to purchase ur pictures you have to pay $50+ for that picture and you have to get a package for it. The high schools need to institute competitive bidding for non-exclusive rights next year so that 3 or more studios can provide the yearbook service and beyond. Kean's is over-priced and medicore quality. The schools would probably get more in kickbacks to fund the Yearbook if they had three competitve firms bidding and paying, and better quality and service would result as people could see reviews in places like Yelp. This place is a huge scam and a big rip off! The cheapest thing is $295 for one digital image... thats crazy

We were told that we had to go online and make an appt right away for my son's senior pictures. So I paid online and made the appt. We got there 20 minutes early and stood outside in the hot sun waiting to have pictures taken for a 6:30 appt and no one was there. The door was locked and no one answered the phone. We waited until 7:00 and then left, a total of 50 minutes! Not sure what happened, but we are not happy! It is not a good start to having to pay an exorbitant price for pictures. read more
