Just used this company again (previously had them install three Mitsubishi Mini-Split systems in my…read morehome), this time to install a mini-split A-C system that I bought online. Two very qualified fellows showed up and efficiently installed everything for a fair price (make sure you know what you're doing when engaging in a "labor-only" deal, as you MUST supply every last nut and bolt). ProTech has also stood behind its warranty on the first set of mini-splits that it installed. This can be a fairly tricky area, and it's good that ProTech has got techs who've been around long enough to amass the experiential knowledge that figures into system longevity. A word about Heating and Cooling systems and customer satisfaction: A lot can go into making a customer happy. I've seen instances where an HVAC company installed a new system and yet it just didn't cool enough -- but the problem was with leaky duct work in the attic, something the homeowner just didn't want to address but instead blamed the latest guy to come along. Other times, an installer just didn't pay attention and overtightened a critical joint, or failed to properly flare a connection. Sometimes a customer gripe is justified, sometimes not. Simple ignorance and neglect can cost both money and reputation. It's thus critical to hire a company that sends highly expertised techs to your home or business. One wrong move can doom you to a lot of aggravation. I'm grateful that ProTech, while not cheap, has got quality staff (they even advised me on what brands to stay away from when I opted to buy a system online for them to install) -- right down to the pleasant gals who answer the phone. No one has tried to snow me, and ProTech validates the "you get what you pay for" maxim. One final tip: Search for "how to install" videos of the HVAC system you're thinking of, then watch them. Often they'll contain tips on installation mistakes and improved ways of doing things. I did that for my latest mini-split system, then watched ProTech's guys install it. Without getting in their way, I asked them about each video tip/warning, and they patiently explained each part of the process as they went. I came away satisfied that I got the best possible installation for a top-rated system.

If you value integrity and don't want to be ripped off, don't hire J&J Heating/Air and Plumbing. I…read morecontacted them to have my HVAC serviced and checked out for the pending summer heat, and to have plumbing services (constant running of a toilet, driving me crazy). My initial interaction with Lisa was assuring--she was polite, professional and transparent (mostly before the fact). She explained there would be a separate fee for each service call, in addition to any work done-- $79 for HVAC and $75 for plumbing. She also said, if needed, a customer supplied toilet installation would cost $350, which admittedly, she acknowledged was pricey, and that I was not obligated for the install. The HVAC service technician came out first and no problems here. The next day the plumber came. He informed me that the constant running was an issue with the make of the toilet and to fix it would be more than the cost of a new one. We happened to have a new, unopened toilet on hand and my husband suggested we install it. However, I said I thought the price tag for the install was a bit too much. That's when he said he would install it for $250, so I agreed. Here is where the lack of honesty and integrity began. After removing the toilet, two extended trips to Loews were made; the first was to purchase a flange that he said needed replacing and the second to purchase H2O lines. Why didn't they know new lines were needed, they had the toilet specs and experience. When all was said and done the cost to me was $550. Now I expected to pay for the flange and H2O lines, but $225, NO WAY, I've bought both these items several times in the past. The cost combined, on the highest end shouldn't have been more than $40. When I questioned him, he tried to tell me that this is what it cost to replace the flange. I was livid, paid him, and decided I would take it up with the company. I called to ask for a detailed invoice and Lisa said they didn't break down the labor from the parts, they just charged a flat fee (she didn't explain this initially). When I received the invoice via email, it read--repair toilet flange $225. So now it went from a replacement to a repair, obviously to justify the cost. Even if that wasn't the case, what happen to communicating with the client regarding "work changes." Again, I wasn't going to share my experience, but, when trying to dispose of it, a rep from the City of WR said the bulk pick-up policy for toilets had changed in the last two years and that the "contractor" should have disposed of it as a courtesy or as apart of the cost. For $550, you damn right he should have!

So I said nope take it back out. That's highway robbery to never give a price before he put it in. So he took it back out he said he still had to charge me for the service charge so I paid him cash on the spot and he left. Now they're sending me a bill for close to $200 claiming that he did put brand new parts in and that I never paid. Scam robbery. Stay away.
