Date Night Win! 10/10 Would Drive from Calgary Again!…read more So, my boyfriend and I escaped the city of Calgary for a much needed date night and ended up in the charming little "old town" of Okotoks. This is all thanks to the powers of TikTok and a very convincing For You Page that I stumbled upon. That's how we found Heartland Café, and honestly? It was giving romantic fairytale meets historical church vibes. Gorgeous interior, stained glass, cozy lighting... I wish I, "we", dressed a littles more fancy than the table we sat at! To start, I sipped on a crisp glass of Chardonnay (chef's kiss), while he channeled his inner Don Draper with a whiskey sour. We kicked things off with the oven-baked brie and beet purée. Was it amazing? Yes. Were we also starving? Absolutely. But I stand by it, it was creamy, melty, and just what our hungry souls needed. P.S. you can ask for more bread ;) we surely did. For mains, I had the pecan-crusted chicken which was a beautiful, crunchy masterpiece. Also moist, very moist. He went for the duck gnocchi, which he described as "super rich", right before devouring the entire thing like a man possessed. No crumbs, zero! Then came the blackberry orange panna cotta. I'm still emotionally recovering from how good it was. If you go, just trust me: don't share it. I made that mistake. Regret. Deep, delicious regret. Another thing we loved? The relaxed, European-style pace of the whole evening. We were never rushed, seating to paying was about an hour and a half, and it gave us that rare gift: quality time. Just me, the love of my life, great drinks, and food. Shout out to all the servers and chefs! Heartland Café is a hidden gem. Romantic, cozy, delicious--and 100% worth the drive from Calgary. We'll definitely be back. With two panna cottas. Minimum.

The one thing I would say stood out enough to detract from a 5-star experience was an overall lack of service. You order inside and they bring your food to you, but service is slow, and both days we noticed that the staff don't really engage patrons unless spoken to first. This can make it very hard to figure out exactly how to order, if seating is self-service (it is), etc. it was insanely hot when we visited, for example, and while one day we were able to get larger glasses for water, the next they refused to give anything larger than a glorified shot glass...despite serving our mimosas in the same larger glasses. Overall it just read of a young team that was slightly disconnected and not overly concerned with customer experience, and that's something that made things take longer than necessary and put a slight damper on an overall wonderful experience.

Dylan was one of the workers taking care of the station, and he is very friendly and the one who offered me the vegetable scone. I'm sad that I live all the way in California because I would totally buy from this bakery all the time if I could :) The baked goods are made with sourdough starter too, which definitely makes them a healthy choice!

We ordered from the menu but there was also a breakfast buffet available that looked terrific. The view is also quite spectacular and we were seated by the window so could really enjoy looking out at the mountains. Our second visit was on a Saturday night with a group of family and friends. We were celebrating a birthday. There was a personalized birthday card from the D'Arcy Family on our reserved table upon arrival. A very nice touch. The prime rib buffet was wonderful, with two salad choices, two veggie choices, two potato choices and the best prime rib I have had in a long time. The desert table was spectacular with at least five options. SO glad we chose this restaurant for our special occasions and we will definitely be back. Thanks to the wonderful staff and amazing food.

Browns Social House was on one side of the parking lot and The Canadian Brew House on the other. We'd been to BSH lots of times so we thought we'd try the Brew house. We entered and sat ourselves at a table on the patio with a few other customers. After waiting 10 minutes or so the server came to our table, introduced herself and asked us about drinks. We both requested water. Several minutes later a different server arrived with a drink (alcohol) and water. We let her know the drink was not ours. About 20 minutes later our server came back to take our order, which she wrote down and then read back to us. Again she asked about drinks. We waited for quite some time for our meal. When it arrived, via a different server, the order was wrong. My food - Beef Stroganoff arrived with our Garlic Knots but my husband had ordered a burger and ravioli came for him. The server took it back. We ate the garlic knots which were good. When the knots were almost gone our server returned to explain she'd made a mistake and that the burger would be out soon. She asked us if we wanted drinks. My husband insisted I eat. I was excited for the creamy goodness of beef stroganoff with prime rib but unfortunately my meal included burnt mushrooms, extremely dry prime rib, was really dry and of course cold. Such a disappointment. I ate it because it was the only meal I'd happen to have that day and I was hungry. After a while our server showed up to ask us about drinks and take the garlic knots plate. I ate as slowly as possible but I still finished before the burger came. The burger arrived and was mediocre to say the least. When she delivered it our server asked if we wanted drinks. At the end of the meal we had to seek her out to get our bill. There was no questions about the enjoyment of our meals or the mistakes that were made. We tipped because in this day and age it's the thing to do but there's no way we'll go back.
