i agree with some of the 1 and 2 star reviews regarding commercials .. there are often too many of them .. and the quality Bad and Dumb .. how about just saying ".. brought to you by .." but Overall i like this station .. i first listened to it in 1968 when i was in high school and Dave McElhatton was at the station .. then pretty much didn't listen again until the 1989 Quake .. since then i have it on throughout the day .. and go to sleep with it at night, as i did in 1989 .. it's an easy way to stay informed .. especially with all the Schmoozy, Visual Filler with TV News now .. as far as some complaints about it being Left leaning, what do you expect, after 40 years of "Trickle Down" ( tinkle on ) Corporate "economics" masquerading as "Conservatism" .. read more

So much nonsense that is considered news to them that is not news. Count how many times they say " non profit " and "crisis " in a 1 hour drive. Sport is not sports. Almost no scores even for local teams but can a least give playoff scores. Instead they come up with obscure , meaningless stories. I like political news that are neither left or right. KCBS truly is biased. I definitely don't agree with some of Trump's decisions. But they are constantly bashing him. This morning ,right after the weather, they just HAD to report about Trump's tariffs. This afternoon, just before the financial news, the newscaster gleefully reported: "The stocks are rallying because of the court decision against Trump on the tariffs..." Unreal. Also, the weather reporter, Steve Scott, today 9/15, kept saying the we are having beautiful weather. That is his opinion...not news. My issue is that you have been extremely unprofessional in demonstrating a negative bias toward Donald Trump during this 2024 elecion cycle. Alisa Clancy has sounded very arrogant and overstepped boundaries as an anchor, or even just as a news reporter, in rediculing Donald Trump and making efforts to present him in a bad light by making pejorative comments. Everything that was said about Kamala Harris was said in a respectful manner that attempted to present her in a positive light, despite all of the sleazy, worthless stuff that she was saying and doing, which deserved no respect. My opinion that your station presents news in an objective manner, as your profession calls for, has been proven wrong, and I am disappointed. Listening to KCBS has been ine if the most negative experience I've had in a long time. Your people are so biased about any Republicans, so sad and hateful. The interviews that are put on air are so disgusting. Today the 9:30 interview with Finn Hamilton, a Professor in Ontario, was so embarrassing to listen to, he spoke one word, then at least 3 'ahhs' then one word and 3 'ahhs' totally ignorant for someone who should be educated. Didn't leave much credibility to anything he had to say. The spokesman for your show really came off as having DTS and almost apologetic for how she viewed the US and Canada's relationship. Obviously this professor doesn't know much about how the tariffs work. I understand the tariffs would be the same as what we are paying for our tariffs, a match for match, seems pretty fair to me. They charge us 25% then we should charge them 25%. We have sent so much money supporting Canada, finally had enough, now they are crying. KCBS Radio (740) is a must tune in only for the (bay area, s.f.) traffic reports (every 10 minutes on the "8": :08. :18. :28. weather reports follow lots of commercials. fyi. features: news on the hour, local news repeated every 1/2 hour, sports broadcast on the weekend, sunday interview program, sporadic news features thruout the day. just the traffic reports, so many commercials are annoying. read more

After over 20 years of waking up with KCBS, I have turned the dial to another station. It was so nice to start the day with competent newscasters like Stan Bunger and Susan Leigh Taylor and before them the beloved Al Hart. The current anchorperson is incapable of uttering a sentence without botching something. She consistently screws up. It's just painful to listen. This is the best you can do in prime time? The one filling in from 10-2 pm isn't much better. KCBS--surely you can do better than this. Until you do, I'm switching to KQED. read more

Boo!!! Kevin Radich is obviously not a news reporter. Today, June 12, 2022, he spoke about the fine given to Jack Del Rio for making a truthful comment about the January 6 protest at the Capitol. Radich intimated that Del Rio had no right to make such a comment so lightly because "people died". I have been listening to KCBS since the early 1980s. it used to be pretty good. Today it is awful. They used to have a man and woman on every shift. Today it is only one in several cases. if they are very competent it may work, but Eric Thomas is awful. They are apparently trying to save money by sacrificing quality. read more

News, traffic, weather okay but zero stars for sports department. Total favoritism towards Giants and 49ers. Second class treatment of Oakland teams. This baseball season is perfect example. When Giants were losing in early season, baseball lost relevance. Giants got hot and started winning. Suddenly KCBS sports got interested in baseball again and it became all about the Giants. Once they woke up and started losing again, KCBS sports loses interest in baseball again. All this despite the fact that for the second season in a row, the A's are in the midst of a great run toward the playoffs. When the Giants are winning it's all about them. When it's the A's the clowns at KCBS could care less. Just listen to the sports the day after the two teams play and see how different the coverage is when the Giants win and when it's the A's that are victorious. As for the Raiders, unless you are a fan, you would never know that KCBS broadcasts their games. The sports staff does nothing to promote the games on THEIR station. The morning guy is the worst. He gives a full wrap up on the 49ers games, but barely a mention about the Raiders, even if they win and the 49ers lose. Unreal Then there are the Warriors. When they play, you can forget about hearing any other sports the next morning. You will get every statistic known to man regarding the Warriors. I don't know why they don't call the morning sports "The Warriors Wrap-up," because that's all your going to get. Forget that the A's hit five home runs and won 16-1, it's all about the Warriors. In fact anything about the Warriors is tops on morning sports. Curry getting a hangnail will trump any other sports story. Aaron Judge can hit four home runs or Justin Verlander can throw a perfect game, but Steph Curry has a hangnail, and news about that will occupy the entire sports segment. These guys at KCBS are incredibly unprofessional. Weekends are even worse. When I worked in the industry, the first thing we were taught was BE IMPARTIAL. Obviously, this mantra is never preached to the KCBS sports department. They are shameful in their favoritism. I am appalled and wonder how they are able to get away with it and have jobs. read more

I have enjoyed KCBS and have been tuning in daily since October 1987. But recently so many drug related commercials and illness commercials stop me in my tracks. I've had to turn off the radio. Downer radio. KCBS is selling out to sponsors like this. I don't want to suddenly go from the traffic and weather report, to a commercial with a lady asking, "is there a number 3? Because my number 2 doesn't look like...". Each commercial has an actor who wants to sell/share their illness experience with you. So you can buy/use their drug or their doctor or their hospital. I want interesting, informative and intelligent listening, just like KCBS use to be. read more

Since 1970 I have been a 'semi-loyal' listener of KCBS because it is the only 'all news' radio station in San Francisco. Over recent years, and especially since the 'Trump era' began, however, KCBS has become something less than 'all news'. There are at least two aspects to their broadcasts that are regrettable- if what you're looking for is unbiased news reportage. The most glaring factor is its consistent resort to a stable of 'professors' who are called upon to provide insights to current (usually political) events. What actually happens, however , is that the listener is almost always treated to a professor's personal political opinions - and conclusions - about who is good or who is bad. Without exception, anybody with a D next to his/her name is good, and anyone with an R is bad. if there was any doubt about the political leanings of KCBS, they were erased by its snapping up of two women who lost their jobs from another station that switched from political commentary to sports gambling coverage. if you think Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity were bad, you should have heard these women - among the most venomously partisan people I have EVER heard. They are now regulars on the KCBS staff. Although it is still 'the' news station in San Francisco, don't expect the sort of nonpartisan presentations that you used to get from true reporters. They are now firmly in the 'advocacy journalism ' camp. read more

News and information when you want it; how much better can it get? I love listening to them especially when driving as - unlike other local stations - they broadcast every 10 minutes road traffic conditions every DAY!! Most will broadcast that info during the work-week BUT KCBS does it everyday!!! The best is being able to call them at 415-495-KCBS (5227) and reporting road conditions, so normal people cruising around who are in a traffic jam or view an accident can report it to warn others - how great to interact with the general public and help others! I think that's great!!! Thanks for the news and traffic updates!! I listen whenever I am on the road needing to know of any traffic conditions to avoid. If you're on the road a lot, this will help you get where you're going quickly! NOTE: I was at a job fair a few months ago and THEY were the only ones who showed up at the event to report!! read more

Commericals are not just annoying but simply awful!!! From Perfect Workout to Relic/Relish drinks to Solar roofs, etc. Doesn't KCBS have any filter for signing up these awful advertisers? Why can't their Ad dept. be more selective because the station is losing a LOT of listeners, including me...after many years...it's gone way down hill. Just listened to another 'professor' from KCBS's stable of Trump-hating professors. This time the question was what political effect Trump's threat to drop off illegal aliens in sanctuary cities might have. He started out calmly, but as he went on his voice continued to rise and his rhetoric became increasingly extreme. By the end of his 'answer', the poor guy's throat must have required some lozenges. It remains continually amazing hoe KCBS just happens to stumble on these way, way left of center professors who are willing to go on rants about Trump, in particular, and any conservative in general. Consistently, they never rely on their scholarly training but simply expound on what the line and don't like - like the average guy down at the barber shop. By the way, I don't particularly like Trump either. But this way of reporting the news is simply unprofessional. It's biased and partisan while pretending to be objective. I, too, echo the praises of their traffic reports. Knowing that I get traffic and weather reports every 10 minutes every day has helped me out on more than one occasion. Since they're on FM as well as AM, I can listen from my MP3 player at work. And Jan Wahl, as crazy as she may seem with those hats of hers, is a movie reviewer I can trust to keep me from spending cash on something that I might as well Netfix. read more

I use to go out of my way to listen to the news at the top of the hour. Now I rarely ever tune into this station. They introduce their reporting as "real news" or some malarkey like that, to suggest that they are not reporting their brand of fake news. Saying your reporting is real doesn't make it real. It makes it seem more like a joke considering the slant that's obvious in their reports. I find their reporting to be unreliable. I may tune in to get traffic reports. They lost me. Their traffic reports are very hit or miss. I am often stuck in gridlock where 280 splits from 101 in San Francisco in the morning and it is never mentioned on KCBS's traffic reports. But their big miss came last Friday night (10/25) I listened to their 7:48 pm report to see if the Octavia on ramp was clear. There was no mention of a problem, so I got on, instead of taking Market to Dolores to get to 280. Big mistake! I immediately hit gridlock. It took 16 minutes to get from the on ramp at Octavia and Market onto 101 southbound (less than one mile). A bus had broken down and was blocking the right lane. I listened to the traffic report at 8:18 pm, and they were still not mentioning this major problem. That is an embarrassing level of incompetence. A Magic 8 ball would give me better info than KCBS traffic on the 8s! I have unsaved them from my car radio and will never listen again. read more

I really like this radio station for their traffic reports. I also rely on them for the correct time. I have to say though they are usually right on but when it comes to the traffic reports they are usually a minute or two late, but they will still tell you it's 10:08 when it's really 10:09 or 10:10 already and they were late in reporting it. Happens every night for the 10:08 and 10:18 times and maybe I listen to them too much but it seems like they tell the same news stories for 2-3 days. read more

If I could give it no stars I would. This station drives me crazy. Every other sentence has KCBS this or KCBS that. It's especially bad at the top of the hour. I don't know who directs the show but I find myself waiting for the next "KCBS" whatever rather then listening to the reported news. Is it really necessary to promote yourself so often?
