KSFO is a guilty pleasure for this Left Coast Liberal. Except for the fix it guys and Rick Edelman (Finance) on Saturdays, the Garden guy on Sundays, and occasionally Rabbi Daniel Lapin and Dr. Laura, I don't agree with any of these guys.
But, they are entertaining and much more - enjoyable - to listen to than say much of Air America or NPR, which often gets a little too preachy and ho-hum for my taste. Maybe it's also that I get easily bored listening to sometimes pedantic people on liberal radio who I mostly agree with. I find that an entertaining political radio program makes me angry, makes me laugh, and makes me think all at the same time. NPR doesn't do that for me. But that doesn't mean that I would ever be -Hannitized - and come over to the dark side. If anything, it makes me read and research more and strenghten my own liberal sense of self.
There are other KSFO bonuses:
You get to hear Republican - talking points - that often differ little in content from host to host. And in the case of the Sean Hannity interview with Sarah Palin, you got to hear her debate almost word-for-word a day early.
You get - exclusive - interviews with Sarah Palin, Dick Cheney, Newt Gingrich, or you name the Administration or conservative operative. These interviews are friendly and full of softball questions and pointed jabs at the opponent.
You get to hear lots of code words, many of which are meant to be derogatory. - Doggone it, we hockey dudes just don't understand why those mainstream media elites from those high class East Coast Intellectual Universities want to raise our taxes, surrender in Iraq, and take away God and our guns! - So, what's wrong with being educated or reading the New York Times?
You become amazed on how many conservative book authors are out there. Most have the latest scoop some liberal secret that if it were only honestly reported by drive-by media, by gum, people would wake up and kick those bastards all the way to Canuckistan! Who are these guys?
Conservative callers no matter how strained their logic or opinions may be are treated as family. Conversations are friendly and relaxed and many Amens are repeated. However, if the next caller is a knowledgeable Liberal-type, that person is quickly cut off, asked rapid fire questions off topic, forced into a ridiculous a Y/N question, and then quickly flushed. And Mark Levin adds for - good - measure: Get off the phone you big dope!
The hosts are often shameless in their accusations which sometimes project things that their side is really doing. Lot's of stuff turns on innuendo and shadowy guilt by association. And if proven wrong, there will never ever be an apology. Just a new and diversionary accusation. This week alone, discussion points included alleged Ohio Voter Fraud and Acorn (but not Republican voter suppression in 2004 or Florida in 2000) and of course Barack's allegedly a communist, socialist, anti-American, the anti-Christ (?), not native born, fill-in-the-blank, etc. etc. And because not much of this thrown shit is currently sticking, a few radio folks are getting even more shrill and angry. I call them Foamers. Or in Bill O'Reilly's case - Mr. Phone Sex.
I'm sure I can think of more stuff, but it's time to move on and go see the movie W! I'm always looking for fresh material. read more
