No matter how detailed our questions got, Chris had thoughtful answers and took the time to explain things every time. Chris genuinely made the process feel easy and stress-free. He's incredibly thorough and detail-oriented - he double and even triple checks everything to make sure your return is accurate and that he has all the right information. He's also very responsive and flexible with scheduling, which has made it easy to fit tax meetings around a busy workday. Chris really shines with more complex situations. He specializes in startups and equity compensation (ISOs, RSUs, etc.), as well as investment portfolios, so if you work at a startup or have a more complicated tax situation, you're in great hands. He takes the time to walk through everything, explains complex issues clearly, and makes the whole process feel much less stressful. He goes above and beyond by looking at prior years and making amendments if necessary to put you in a better position for future tax years. I originally started working with Chris based on a friend's recommendation, and after three years as a client, I'm very glad I did. If you're a startup employee or founder, or anyone dealing with equity and investments, I highly recommend Chris at FlexTax.

I asked…read morefor help in filing for custody of my child and decided not to go with a lawyer since the other parent was in agreement to give me full custody. I was a college student at the time, so financial resources were very scarce, but I needed help filing to take time off my hands so I could focus on school. She was very enthusiastic about taking my case and said she helped other parents before so she was fairly confident in the way she expressed her expertise. I paid $1,500 for her to help me fill out the documents and file the fee in the Hayward Court. She said that the fee is larger because the filing fee is around $500, but she also applied for the fee waiver (which was approved because at the time I was low income) so I'm assuming the full $1,500 fee was her take-home amount. She wasn't transparent about that though. I did sign the fee waiver, but chose not to address it since I just wanted to forego the headache of having to drive to the Hayward Court to file documents while I was in college. She was also the recipient address of all the court documents, so the least she could do was inform me if I had a court date to attend to for the custody hearing. After paying the fee, she gave me an update when it was filed. Lo and behold, I hadn't been receiving any updates from her for a few weeks. I was curious and looked at the Court website to see if there was a court date set - and like a movie I saw that the custody hearing for my child's case was THE NEXT DAY. Again, didn't receive any communication for her for a few weeks. She said she would contact me if there was an update. Also, if you didn't know anything about custody hearings, no-shows mean by default you give rights to the other parent in attendance. I immediately contacted her and said that the court date is already set for tomorrow and why she didn't let me know, since she's the person receiving the information and that the least she could do was inform me of the court date since she also didn't forward me any mail that she received about my case. I told her I was disappointed and I didn't even receive an acknowledgement that she made a mistake. She just said "I'm sorry you feel that way". And then after that, she forwarded all the mail she received to me AFTER I discovered the court date by myself. It's been years since this occurred, and just thinking about the fact that I could have lost custody of my son due to a non-communicative, incompetent person that I paid $1,500 to help me file and update me on court matters still makes me panic every time I think about it.

I regret hiring Meseret. I could have calculated my own returns in less time than it took me to…read moreplead with her (unsuccessfully) to fix the ~$5000 in mistakes she made. The problems all started when I found a mistake she made in our returns, which would have cost us $4000: she hadn't claimed an exemption for us even though I told her we qualified for it. She initially refused to discuss over email, forcing me to come in person where she didn't seem to understand what I was saying, and instead inflicted a confusing lecture about how we couldn't claim it (we can). My impression is that she was not familiar with this common exemption. She seemed pridefully unwilling to admit her mistake. After many more emails in which I pled with her to fix this error detailing the exact form and line, with links to the IRS instructions, she changed her story, implying that I must have had undisclosed IRA transactions and was therefore attempting tax fraud. It seemed like she was not aware that IRA contributions can be made retroactively, and that confused her. I finally provided her with detailed month-by-month IRA account statements showing the exact dates of those transactions from a decade ago, and she relented, and recomputed our returns. As a finale performance, she unnecessarily had us claim the full amount of a lifetime exemption (first-time home buyers'), even though we only needed a portion of it. This would have eliminated our ability to use the remainder in future years (costing us maybe $600-$1000 in the future). When I asked her to fix it, she incorrectly claimed that the exemption can only be used for our first house purchase (false), and she stubbornly inflicted another infuriating lecture upon me. I finally decided to quit wasting my time and file the returns myself. I didn't pay her hundreds of dollars to spend hours trying to educate her while she accuses me of fraud and gives misinformed lecture after lecture. Meseret has a lot of good reviews from people who I'd guess haven't ever double-checked her work before - or maybe those people don't actually exist. Please double-check her work, or better yet don't hire her in the first place. It might be a costly and time-consuming mistake.

I learned about EAs from a community whatsapp and went in search of one. After looking for several weeks and reaching out to a few, it was Phuong's rapid response (by email and phone) and his kind demeanor that helped make my decision. Overall, working with Phuong was straightforward. After agreeing on an estimated cost, Phuong invited me to a secure portal to upload all of my documents. Alongside, Phuong provided a checklist to help guide all of the files/info that you should consider uploading. This was very efficient and helped expedite the process. From beginning to end, it took only a few weeks. It would've gone much faster, but I was delayed in uploading documents, so I caused the delay. Alongside, Phuong answered one-off questions as needed and quickly. And I had a lot of questions! But Phuong was always willing to help. The best part? Phuong confirmed I was actually owed a refund. I was stunned. Is there any better result than that? Of course, this means my quarterly payments were on target, but I'm not sure I would've reached the same result on my own. I can't recommend Phuong enough. He was fast, friendly and importantly, secure. I am certain I will be working with Phuong for all of my tax needs moving forward. Thank you Phuong!!
