(In case you don't know what it is, it's some duct leakage test to make sure your house is energy rated.) I made a bunch of phone calls since I was on a tight deadline to get this job finished. Nathan was one of the only people to call me back, answer my questions, and then honestly tell me that after looking over our permits we weren't required to have a HERS test at all so didn't even need his services. When I offered to pay him for his time (hey I'm a business woman and I appreciate someone's time!) he just laughed and told me that this one was on the house, but if I needed his help with anything to give him a call back. So fast forward to the next day when the inspector came back out and insisted that we still needed this HERS test. Well we called Nathan back and he picked up the call. Nathan then spent time walking the inspector through our Title 24 permits explaining how and why we didn't need the HERS testing done and where, as a HERS inspector, he couldn't even do the tests since we didn't have any specifications to meet on the permits. Nathan answered every question the inspector had and by the time they were done the call the inspector was ready to pass us. If you've done any kind of building or permitting then you know how hard it can be to pass inspections. Nathan Krantz is the best HERS testing consultant you'll find. You can feel safe hiring him. He understands the code so well that he's helping city inspectors better understand what HERS testing is all about. Remember this is a new test!
