Don asked me to bring my car to him (keep in mind this is a 1932 Ford Rat Rod truck and not easy to work on) so he could check it out. Not only did he pull the trans back out of my truck and correct the issue it was done in 1 day!!! Turns out his supplier put the wrong torque converter in the box with the correct part number! Getting my 2nd or 3rd transmission ( I can't remember) rebuilt here. It's a 30-40 minute drive for me one way. I'll drive even farther for quality work at such a reasonable price like this place. Taking my suburban in to get turbo 400 transmission rebuilt, I will update with the results which I'm sure will be fantastic as it has been the other times. Called to make an appointment with no problem giving straight answers with no fluff and giving a very reasonable price it's great to see this business has not changed at all. I was surprised to find out my suburban already had a 700r4 transmission, something I had wanted to install anyways which as far as references go KBL was the best place to take it for that conversion which you REALLY have to know what your doing when installing it. Transmission is running perfect, the owners really know they're stuff, when installing a 700r transmission into a vehicle that originally had a t400 transmission you have REALLY know what your doing other the transmission will not last long at all. This specific shop does a lot of conversions to 700r4 transmissions so I knew they were the best to get it done and i was right. Recently I purchased an older vehicle that is new too me. After driving the vehicle for a period of time I was sure it had a transmission problem. I searched for local transmission shops and positive reviews brought me to KBL Transmissions in Huntington Beach. I made an appointment and dropped off my vehicle, expecting to hear some bad news, but I was planning of having spending the money to have it repaired. KBL spent some time with the vehicle and called me not too long after I dropped it off. They found no problems with the transmission or the clutch, but they did find a very slow leak I was not aware of between the transmission and transfer case, that in their opinion did not need to be addressed at this time. KBL gave me a good professional assessment of the vehicle, and did not charge me for their time. Don Nickol, and the lady at the front desk (I'm sorry I can't remember her name) were very helpful, friendly and professional. They did not ask me to write a review, which is so unusual and refreshing. After my very positive experience with KBL, I have recommended them to a couple people already, and for any future transmission problems I will go directly to them. read more

I took my car to KBL because he did a good job on my son's car. After he rebuilt the transmission in my car it seemed to be working fine. Unfortunately I got sick about that time and couldn't drive for a few months so I didn't know that the speedometer was not working. I got under the car and found the speedometer cable disconnected and tied to the frame. I took it back and he replaced the cable which he said was too short. "He charged me for the cable which I think should have found when he rebuilt the transmission " I took the car home and a couple of weeks later I found it was leaking and the shift lever was moving out of PARK with very little movement on my part. Not wanting to to drive it I took it to a shop closer to my house. This mechanic adjusted the shift lever which he said was not tightened properly. He also showed me three fittings that were leaking along with the rear seal that goes to the driveshaft. He said I should take it back to the original mechanic and have him fix it but I don't think I can trust him anymore. read more

My 2009 Scion xB sprung a leak and started to ruin my newly paved driveway. I wasn't sure where the leak was coming from so I took it by Zito's Auto repair for them to take a look. While on the lift he showed my where my transmission casing met, the seal was leaking. He told me it was going to be a big job because my motor would have to be pulled to get to my transmission to reseal. He referred me to KBL. Have driven by this place for what seems like 20+ years. Never needed them so never paid much attention. We have had a 1990 Isuzu Trooper for a few years and coming home, transmission light went on. This happened shortly have we got it and it was slipping a bit when starting out until it warmed up and then fine so we went to another place and was quoted thousands for a rebuilt transmission. Our plan was just to drive it till it dropped and move on. But this particular day, I stopped in to see if they could help out. They were very courteous and offered a free diagnostic test and of course, was told I needed a new transmission. I almost said No, but she quoted me the price and I could hardly believe it. I had to rebuilt my transmission for my 2001 Acura MDX (common problem for this year). I got referred to Kbl Transmissions by my cousin. I will tell you 2 stories; his experience and my own. My cousin was informed by another mechanic that he need a power steering rack which would cost him $600 dollars. He of course shopped around and found Kbl Transmissions. Don, (the owner) informed him he just needed to replace one part and it would cost $40. He was ecstatic and referred me. After hearing about his experience, I decided to do my work with Kbl Transmissions. I am happy I did. Don was reasonable and straight forward compared to other shops I got quotes from. He installed a performance transmission cooler (which he did not need to add), but added it to make sure the transmission works efficiently. He also showed me the parts he replaced and explained the work he did, clearly, so I could understand. Don does not cut corners and will do the job correctly the first time. I drive a older BMW 1998 e36, like most BMW's It has a Borger Warner sealed "no maintenance" transmission. There is no dip stick to even check the fluid levels. I was surprised and impressed with Don. It was like going to a BMW expert! He knows the truth transmission need regular maintenance. Afterwards the transmission shifts smooth, and runs cool. It is SO important to have an honest transmission mechanic and Don at KBL is Honest. He will tell you what your options are and not talk you into something that you do not need. Think about it, the trans is Very complex and you have no way of knowing what is causing any problems. You can't even see it. Don told me I did NOT have to replace the whole trans on my Durango and just did the torque converter saving me $$$. It lasted for years until I sold it, no problems. He told me just a trans flush would take care of a minor issue on my 4Runner with 170K miles and it did!! again saving me $$$. I dropped my car off in the morning and by that afternoon he knew exactly what was wrong and had already fixed it. My 2002 Golf was having trouble getting into reverse and first gear. It has nearly 300k on it, so I thought for sure it would need a new transmission, a new clutch, or something just ridiculously expensive.
