Today was my first and last visit to KBB Salon. I booked a wash and silk press and, when I arrived, told the staff I had an appointment with Kelsey. I was told to have a seat, only to later realize Kelsey had been standing there the entire time and never greeted or introduced herself. About 10 minutes later, she came over and said she was running behind and someone else would wash my hair. Another employee did the wash and that part was fine. However, for my 11:45 AM appointment, Kelsey didn't begin working on my hair until around 1:30 PM after finishing the client before me. When she started flat ironing my hair, I asked what type heat protectant had been used. After that, the appointment went downhill. She asked if I had been to the salon before and implied I didn't understand how silk presses work. I clarified that I was simply asking what brand and type of heat protectant it was, but she never answered and continued working while repeatedly sighing. She burned me with the flat iron a few times and didn't respond when I mentioned it which made me really uncomfortable. When it was time for a trim, I looked in the mirror to see where she was cutting. She snapped at me to keep my head facing forward. I explained that I just wanted to see what was being cut since I hadn't had a trim in a while. She then abruptly turned the chair, sighed, and demanded I tell her exactly how much to cut. Since she had never done my hair before, I told her I preferred her professional opinion but still wanted to see what was being cut. She began talking about how damaged my hair was and suggested cutting several inches off. At that point, given her attitude, I no longer felt comfortable letting her cut my hair and asked for the minimum. The long wait alone wouldn't have stopped me from returning, long waits are common at salons in Atlanta. But the poor attitude and lack of customer service were disappointing. Everyone else in the salon was pleasant, but Kelsey's demeanor made the experience uncomfortable. I was asked to switch my appointment from Thursday to Friday . My appointment with Dr Jae was switched to 11 :15 Friday. I do not like dealing with Friday traffic, but after a recent tragedy , I felt getting my hair done would be relaxing because of my prior experience ( despite the pricing issue in which I was charged 365 without an explanation of services.)I wanted to be clear about the 90 dollar price she quoted me for a wash and style, so for clarity I reiterated the price she stated at the end of our last session.I felt she was irritated that I asked. She put me under the dryer, I lifted the dryer after it was done. ,I watched as she did customer after customer, at that point I had been there almost three hours. She finally seats me and the manager and her discuss what they want to order to eat and The manager leaves. As soon as the manager leaves, Dr. Jae starts pushing on my head so hard that I grip the chair, I thought it was some type of hair massage, but the force was so intense, I was-gripping my seat. She then rushes out of the salon while making phone calls . She leaves me in the chair for about five minutes talking on the phone. It was just strange. She then returns, and starts curling my hair. I jump because she is scorching my scalp. I jump several times. She was on my head for about 15, minutes, she kept stopping to make phone calls. I felt very traumatized. When I left, she did not say goodbye, she set behind the counter and continued to make phone calls.She couldn't even face me, I believe she knew this was wrong. The behavior was erratic and strange. A young lady took my payment and I left. it was almost 3:00. I called the next day and spoke to the manager and she wanted me to come back in, but I was still dealing with a tragedy that occurred a week before that. I am still getting headaches from that encounter. The manager documented it as a " missed" appointment, I simply responded,that this was not a missed hair appt , but an appt to discuss what occurred. by documenting that this was a missed hair appointment , devalues the seriousness of the Incident. I do not and will not feel safe in that environment. The manager saw me waiting that day and even spoke to me, why didn't she intervene when she saw me sitting there, all that time? Again, something was very strange about this whole encounter. read more

Miscommunication about what I was being charged for . I basically paid $170 for half blow dryed hair . I needed a prep for a sew-in . Ive never gotten my hair blown dryed before without having my hair sectioned off . I got home looked closely and noticed my edges looked thinned out , from all the yanking from her not bothering to detangle OR section my hair off . And I looked closely at my scalp and there's literally still dandruff in my scalp . Its crazy that I even had to ask them to blow dry my roots thoroughly. I am disappointed that the once full service salon has trickled down and only a few stylists and extremely high prices. I love to patron black owned establishments and love to see the growth in the community. I booked an appointment paid $40 in advance hold for date and time, only to get a rod set, steam and wash to come out paying another $148. That is $188 for a rod set. Now I know natural hair is a bit higher and I've been used to paying no less than $100/visit at other salons. I get inflation but almost $200 for a rod set that is now matted to my head next day is a bit ridiculous. I usually never leave reviews but I am not rich, nor am I Oprah. I just hope the salon return back to when it was vibrant and cost effective for clients. I am looking for a steady 2 week hair regimen and paying $250/month for services. And I pay for individuals hair skills and time that I don't have .... Good services cost. But once again, $200 for a rod set???? read more

I went to this shop visiting the Atlanta area and I was very pleased. The stylist who did my hair was Leah. What I loved most about her was she was nice and to the point. I hate going to salons where it is constant gossiping and long wait times. I did not experience either. It was even nice that another staff member inquired and verified who I was seeing just to confirm my appointment. Next time I hope to get color but I will be sure to specify that in advance. I've unfortunately NEVER been to a salon where I was in the chair within 15 minutes of arriving and never exited in under 2 hours UNTIL i visited KBB. They were fast, good, didn't hear profanity laden music and no one cursed once, no gossip. IVE FINALLY found a Cobb stylist after 20 years driving all over friggin Atlanta to unprofessional slow late stylists. I've been going to Kalena for about a year. A friend referred me to her. She has a great pesonality along with customer service. She's very confident in her work and she has proven that to me. On a normal basis, you're in & out within 2.5 hrs (depending on her capacity level). Her prices are affordable and she's proficient in short and long hair. She did a quick weave during Christmas-time last year and it was sooo pretty. It was a bob cut and I got sooo many compliments! I am throroughly disapointed with the service of this salon. The woman I had an appointment with took almost 5 hours (11:30am to 4:15pm) to finish my hair and consequently made me miss my photos with my prom group, made me miss my makeup appointment, and made me late to dinner. It had not been my first time at the salon, and I am always pleased with the result of my hair; however, the quality of the silk press does not make up for the lost time and heartache I had while sitting in the salon just waiting for someone to do my hair. My appointment was at 11:30am, but I arrived at around 11:20am. My mom explained to the woman that I had a makeup appointment at 2:15pm and asked if she could get my hair done by 1:30pm. The woman then told my mom that it would be more like 2:00pm for her to finish. Yet, she didn't finish until 4:15! The salon schedules other appointments within one hour of eachother so that the business can make more money. Therefore, she would stop doing my hair, sit me in a chair, and have me wait while she started on another person's hair. Rather than getting my hair done in a timely manner, they would rather get more money. I am furious with the disrespect the salon has for other people's time. Word of advice, if you're on a tight schedule or don't have all day to get your hair done, don't go to this salon. My prom day was ruined. The only reason why I didn't give it one star was because the silk press was good. read more

Great salon! Kalena worked her magic on me. My hair is natural, very thin/fine, and curly. That was not a problem for her. She cut and colored my hair and is everything Baby! Amazing. I appreciate that she really listened to my hair woes and knew exactly what to do to have me walking out of there feeling beautiful as ever. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this salon. I've been searching Atlanta for a long time looking for a stylist and after quite a few nightmares, I finally found "the one". Kalena is such a sweet and patient stylist. She's personable and really cares about her clients' concerns. On top of all of that, she's professional and she can really style hair as well as care for it. My hair is so much healthier since I've been going to her, and everywhere I go, I get compliments on my hair. This is the first time in a long time where I really enjoy myself at the salon. She's the type of person you can't help but to like because she's so friendly and funny. Other benefits: 1. Ample parking that's free. 2. Light-hearted environment (no messy, gossiping people). 3. People are down home and greet you (you don't walk in feeling like a stranger in a room of uptight people). 4. Stylists are professional (you don't have to worry about somebody eating food while doing your hair at the same time). 5. I feel some kind of way about my visit to this salon. First of all, Kalena was 30 minutes late. However, she was quite apologizing and she started immediately on my hair. There were a few things that I didn't like but I will point out the most obvious. She is a beautiful person and has a great personality...OK! I believe I was overcharged. As a first time customer you have to pay a $25 deposit before your visit. I don't like giving my card info over the phone to anyone but I really needed my hair done. Anyway, so I get there, wait 30 minutes for Kalena to arrive, my hair is done...and I'm like ehhh, not what I wanted but it'll do. From the pics online, I was expecting more style. And it was really plain, but cute. Then I go to pay, I tip her, and leave. While driving, I realized I was overcharged. She gave me a 20% discount and I had already paid $25 up front and I still end up paying almost $100 for a wash/style with a cut. She's a good stylist but I feel like I didn't get my money's worth. The customer service was great.. They were very friendly and welcoming. I was a walk-in on a Friday morning and they were able to service me immediately. I did have to wait up to 10 minutes to have my deep conditioner washed out, but it wasn't a huge deal. The reason they lost two stars in this review is because they were incredibly rough on my natural, 4c hair during the blow dry. She used a paddle brush and blow dryer and was yanking my hair everywhere, ripping through nots. I am not tendered headed but when I'm combing my hair and encounter a big knot, I stop to take it out with my hands..not rip through it. This salon would be great for my relaxed sistas.. But I wouldn't recommend for my naturalistas especially if you prefer your hair to be gently handled. I'll be searching for a salon that specializes in natural hair. read more

I normally go once every two months and see Eboni. Now I like the salon and I love eboni, even though last time I got my hair down I had to wait 45 minutes for her even though I was the first client. I normally have a wait anytime I come to the salon so I'm used to it. But what has irritated me is the fact that I'm trying to get a custom wig made and each time I call my information is taken down but the so called person that does the wigs " Melanie" is yet to call me back. So since this has been going on for a few days of me calling and no call back I think it's time to look elsewhere for that wig. But as for any other services I recommend Kalena or Eboni. P. Scheduled an appointment a week in advanced for today at 1 pm with Melanie and pay a 25$ deposit in case I'm a no show. I arrive on time to a receptionist with her feet cocked up in the chair who took 30 secs to long to acknowledge me because she was on her phone, but that's not even where it went left. Melanie not only wasn't in today, but guess my time and money didn't matter to her enough to call me or fit me in with another stylist. I asked for a refund and the receptionist gave me that but didn't try and do anything to save me as a customer or right the wrong. The absolute worse experience I've ever had. People have no regard for others time and money. People make appointments for a reason. So happy I found this salon! I called and got in same day. Great atmosphere and fun staff. Right when I walked in for the first time I felt like I had been there many times before. I was immediately greeted by Kalena and shortly after greeted by Ms. Carmen who took great care of me! As soon as I met Kalena she showed great interest in what I wanted to accomplish with my hair. I showed her a picture and we went from there! Great conversation and customer service the entire time. My hair came out beautiful, healthy, better than I expected and pretty much gave me life :)...she even whipped my eyebrows into shape in a matter of minutes. So Kalena's Beautiful Beginnings Hair Salon is one of the BEST in Georgia...It literally is like a hidden jewel. If you don't know about it you should. I flew into Atlanta on a Wednesday and needed my hair whipped. As you know, if you don't make an appointment before coming to ATL you may get to a salon at 10am but you won't leave until 7pm (walk-ins are basically shunned upon). Well I called my friend and she had been raving about Kalena's so she called and made me an appointment that day.....yes Kalena allowed me to make a same day appointment!!! So the appointment was around 3pm, I got there at 2:50pm, Kalena greeted me, and asked me to fill out some paperwork about my hair health (and yes this is EXTREMELY important). Once I filled out the paperwork by 3:15pm I was at the shampoo bowl....there was no waiting around....she was aware that no one wants to spend their ENTIRE day at the salon. We had an in depth discussion about my hair, how long I was natural, what my daily process was, what products I used, what I should be using with the texture of my hair, and if I had any medical conditions, I mean it was an in depth hair intake. But I honestly appreciated this conversation because not many stylists will ask if you're tender headed or if you have allergens to certain products, these questions are important and it builds rapport with your stylist. After I was shampooed, and dried, I sat under the dryer for a few minutes and then whisked away to her chair. While in her chair the attention was all on me, there was no moving from head to head. I also noticed that she cleaned her styling utensils (i.e combs) (how many times have you seen a stylist do that????) Overall, the service was fabulous! My hair was whipped and as a natural it stayed fresh for a FULL 2 weeks (usually my hair will only keep for a week, maybe a week and a half if the weather isn't crazy)! Kalena you were awesome, I loved your energy and enthusiasm, and the care that you took with my hair. Today was my first visit to Kelena's Beautiful Beginnings and my stylist was Shanice. My appointment time was at 1pm and as soon as I signed in and filled out an info card, I was off to the shampoo bowl to begin my service. My hair was washed by Shanice and when I say she washed my hair...honey she WASHED my hair! Three times to be exact. The wash was perfect, not too rough or too gentle just how I like my hair washed. After the wash, she conditioned my hair and this is when I started to hold my breath because I knew detangling would come next. My hair is natural and most stylist rip through my thick/coarse hair but not Shanice. She took her time, sectioning my hair off and twisting sections that she had already detangled...just like I do my own hair. It was refreshing to have a stylist take such good care of my hair. After she finished the wash, I sat under the dryer for a few minutes, then she began the blowout. Since my hair was thoroughly detangled, the blowout was smooth sailing. Most stylists use a brush to blow dry, but she used the comb attachment on the blow dryer which works better on coarse natural hair. My hair was flat ironed, curled, and I was out the door within 2 hrs. Next time I will come back on Monday or Tuesday because they have a blowout special of 35 dollars those days. Overall this was a very pleasant first experience. Hopefully the rest of my visits are just as great. read more
