Greg is wonderful! I can sometimes be picky and indecisive when choosing a frame and Greg is always patient with me, which I appreciate a lot! He does excellent quality work and his prices are affordable. I've had several things framed at KB Custom Framing and every one of them has turned out perfectly and within the estimated timeframe. I trust Greg with all my projects: wood frames, metal frames, mats, no mats, paintings, photos, prints. He does it all--and beautifully! I can't recommend him enough! read more

Always amazing - great framed and affordable. I have been going here for a number of years.

I've taken two pieces here to be framed and the service has been impeccable both times. The owner genuinely cares about the piece you're bringing him, is happy to help pick out the best frame and matting, and finishes when he says he will. I'm very pleased with how both pieces have turned out; they've been given conservation level attention. read more

Nothing but the best. Greg is who you need to see if you need work done. Solid and professional.

I can not believe that I have yet to review this gem of a place until now! I have been bringing collected art works to Greg since 2015. In total, he has framed 10+, he even made a frame that did not exist in his repertoire. I think that I subconsciously did not review before because I wanted to keep him a secret. I will add just a few photos to support my claims. read more

I wish I had six (or eight! or 10!) stars to give Greg at KB Custom Framing. He deserves them all. When we moved to Portland recently, we knew we wanted to get some pieces framed for our new house. We took several things to Greg after reading about him on Yelp. We were thrilled with his service, selection, and very fair prices. Usually any sort of framing results in serious sticker shock, but Greg is so reasonable, and you can tell that he's just a really nice guy who wants people to be able to enjoy artwork in their homes without breaking the bank. Plus, he does a fantastic job! He helps with every aspect of the decision-making process and he is both an artist and fine craftsman. We ran across a long-forgotten print when we moved, and it had some mildew on it from our improper storage. Greg doesn't profess to be an art restorer, but he was still able to clean it up and the damage doesn't even show. It looks perfect in our dining room and we enjoy it every single day. We have already taken our second batch of prints and some vintage maps to Greg for more framing. He is helping make our new house a home and we are so happy with every aspect of his business. There's really no reason to go anywhere else. It's great to be able to have fun choosing new mats and frames instead of having to keep one hand on our wallets. Thanks, Greg! read more

I've been going here for years having the artwork of my late mother in-law and my daughter framed. Many of these pieces have great sentimental value and I would trust no one else with their safety. The framing work is beautiful. read more

I had two precious photos framed here, both turned out incredible. Excellent framing shop in Montavilla.

The other day I found myself panicking because I had a art piece that needed to be framed for a show the next day. I assumed that there would be no way that I could have it professionally framed because of time and budget constraints. Because I live in the area I decided to stop in KB Custom Framing just to see if they had any pre-made frames that would work in a pinch. I could see hours of struggling with making a mat in my future. When I arrived Greg helped me look for a frame that might work. We found something but I thought that I would just ask how much it would cost for him to frame it for me. Not only was the price he quoted me astoundingly reasonable (I would have spent that much in wasted mat board alone) but he said that he could have it done by the next morning! This all happened around 5:30 PM. At about 6:50 (ten minutes before they close) Greg called me and said my piece was ready! He thought I might want it a little earlier as I was driving it to Eugene in the morning and might want an earlier start. I rushed over there to pick it up and he had done a beautiful and professional job. It looked great! I was so impressed that I came back the next morning with two more pieces for him to frame. He was in the middle of working with another customer (who needed a frame in an hour!) and said that he could have my pieces framed in the three days I needed them. Sure enough, he called the day before I needed them to say they were completed early. I'm so impressed with Greg and his professionalism and customer service that he has won another loyal customer. A chain store could offer me framing at half price and I would still go to Greg. I also doubt I'll be attempting to frame my own pieces again as I can not hope to replicate his professional framing jobs. Greg does such a great job and bends over backwards to please his customers. He deserves all of the business he can handle! read more

This little hole in the wall on Stark is easy to miss - just stop between Thatcher's and The Academy and you're there! We had an old watercolor painting we wanted rematted and framed, and the owner spent easily 20-30 minutes trying out different options with us. The final result is absolutely stunning! We are thrilled. He also custom-cut glass for my husbands Macquarium project. What is a Macquarium, you ask? http://www.theapplecollection.com/Collection/MacAquarium/IgorMusial.shtml For all of you Montavilla Marauders out there, support your local businesses! Make a day of it - grab a coffee at Bipartisan, drop your art off to be framed at KB, have a spa day at Sante (or Tub and Tan, if that's your style...), lunch at the Country Cat, pick out toys for Fido at Salty's, then grab a movie at the Academy. Holy crap, doesn't that sound awesome? read more

I was just looking up the details on this shop because Greg had helped me before on a few different projects and I realized that I had never written a review for him. Just like all the other reviews, I wish I had more money to throw his way because he does exceptional work at one of the best prices I have found. He did a project for me that most places wouldn't touch and the ones that did quote me something, quoted about 4 times the amount with the caveat that they wouldn't guarantee any results. Greg not only did the project for a great price, but knew that when he was done there would be no problems. The piece is over a few years old and looks just as good as the day I picked it up. I can't say enough about the work and service he is providing. Thank you for providing a superior service at affordable rates with an independent business personality! Robert read more

Absolutely the best! The owner does incredible work and is very patient and kind. I wanted to change out the mat I selected due to the location in our home I choose to hang it. Greg charged the cost of the mat, no labor. Great shop. read more

The hours the shop is open on Friday were listed from 10am - 7pm. I arrived just before 11:30am - the store was closed with a sign that someone was returning at noon. Since it took me about 25 minutes to drive there, I opted to wait. I grabbed a coffee across the street and walked back over a few minutes after noon. The store was still closed, but I thought perhaps someone was running just a bit late. I ended up waiting until 12:30pm, but at that point I had to leave. I don't mind when small businesses close their stores for a bit midday to grab some lunch or whatever, but I was frustrated that no one returned when the note said they would. If I had known it was going to be 12:30pm (or later) before anyone returned, I probably would not have waited at all. It sounds like Greg does amazing work, which is why I wanted to go here in the first place. If it's not an "on your way" stop (I made a special trip from SW Portland), I'd definitely call ahead and make sure someone is going to be there even if you're planning on stopping by during business hours. read more

Brought in a 24x36 inch metal print and Greg worked his magic once again. The canvas print I had him re-stretch last year(manufacturer's mistake, not Greg's) is still tight and hangs straight. I must say that Greg will be the only person I go to for my framing needs from here on out. I'm a local Portland artist and I was pleasantly surprised to find how involved and meticulous he was in helping me find the right colored mat and frame style combination for a drawing of mine that was to be featured at an art show the following week - and I was completely blown away by the finished result when I came to pick it up for the show. Not to mention, he is one of the nicest people in Portland. The only reason I've tagged him with only 4 stars is because I hadn't had any previous experience with a framing shop before KB; therefore, I have no true comparable except that it looks 110% better than my amateur attempts at framing my own art. I made sure to do my research before I made a decision and KB's glowing reviews regarding price and service were primary factors in my choice. First impressions are huge. Greg has definitely set the precedent by which I will gauge any framing service if by any shop other than KB. read more

Craig did an amazing job helping picking out mats and frames. Highly recommend their services

As a broke college student and frugal person in general, getting things custom framed is a luxury to me. I've never owned art that was valuable enough or had a photo that was sentimental enough to warrant getting them custom framed. However, I recently bought some paintings on a backpacking trip to Asia. They were on delicate rice paper, and were meant to be gifts so I thought it was only appropriate to get them framed. I browsed many frame shops online and was attracted to Kb Custom Framing in particular because it was a small, locally owned shop that was close in proximity. I came in on a Saturday morning. Greg was incredibly nice and patient with me. I'm usually not an indecisive person, but when there are hundreds of framing materials that come in hundreds of shades, along with hundreds of mat colors, the number of combinations possible is overwhelming. After 30 minutes or so of Greg hand holding me through the process and showing me what the popular materials were, I was finally able to decide on a frame and mat for each painting. As an artist and having done this for a long time, Greg really has an eye for what frame and background mat color would compliment the paintings. At the same time, I also greatly appreciated that he was cognizant of my budget and recommended materials that were cost-effective, yet still aesthetically appealing. The price for the three medium sized paintings (~12x18 in) was less than $150. Needless to say, I was extremely happy with the results. The framed paintings looked beautiful and I would have gladly paid more for that level of quality workmanship. Greg and Kb Custom Framing are true local gems. Highly, highly recommend! read more

KB makes me want to do more framing, if only so I could support them more often. It's places like KB that make you forget the few benefits of corporate monster stores, and make local shopping worth it. I knew I'd be in good hands when the owner of a semi-competing store sent me to see Greg at KB, but my experience was far beyond good. Greg, the owner, was genuinely kind, helpful, generous with his time and knowledge, and obviously passionate and skilled. He explained my options, patiently answered my questions, and gave me some great tips. My purchase was very small and yet he still suggested I bring in my art and matting so he could help with spacing and cutting out corners, and even offered to help with a project I had framed somewhere else! There is a good selection of premade frames in different sizes and styles, and he has scrap pieces from old work for sale. The frames are handmade in store, and the pieces he has matted and displayed are gorgeous (he said he did the paintings too!). It is (sadly) so rare to receive the kind of customer service that I did at KB; I normally only review restaraunts, but that experience was memorable enough to warrant a shout out! P.S.the quality of the frames I bought-like that they're real wood, the corners match up, the connections aren't loose, the brackets bend without breaking-are so much better than the Michael's crap i'd have gotten for two bucks less. read more

Greg does an amazing job. I've taken at least thirty pieces of art to get framed over the past few months and there hasn't been a piece I was disappointed with. Has good ideas on frames for art and when you get the finished product it looks like a museum piece. There is no place quite like this one to get framing done. This is truly the best of the best. Highly recommended and will be going back whenever I need more stuff framed. read more

After reading other Yelp reviews I knew I wanted Kb Framing to do my project. Greg really IS that good. He is so knowledgeable about his frames and mats, so generous with his expertise and artistry, and so patient. He had great suggestions and is SO nice to work with. I have been coming to see Greg for my framing needs for the last 4 years. You wont find anyone else who is this kind, competent, reasonably priced, and always at the ready to help with your artwork. I've thrown so many different kinds of work at him, and it always turns out immaculate. From very large scale pieces, to incredibly delicate custom work used to hold my professional license (complete with a swing out back for replacing it every few years when it's updated), and sweet simple cardboard backed prints that I hang low on the wall for my daughters to touch and play with. Hands down, Greg is the best, don't go anywhere else!!!! read more

I always want to support local businesses, but sometimes can't because of price concerns - not the case here. I've had several things framed at Aaron Brothers, and now would always go here instead because the prices are competitive to the chains, and the service is much better and more personal. The owner is super nice, knows what he is talking about, and will do custom jobs for about the same price as a chain place where the service is sometimes lacking. read more

I went to Kb because the reviews were the best and I haven't wanted to go anywhere else. Mainly because I don't have to.
