Location is hard to find, hidden in a non descript plaza off of Mavis & Burnhamthorpe. New-ish eatery with good service and a clean environment. You can tell they've put in effort to make it hip with lots of pictures and colour. My server Sarah was very welcoming upon entry and asked if I had been before. It was my first visit. Reading reviews is what prompted going. Had the Kaze signature combo that comes with 10 pieces of king tiger: deep fried shrimp, cucumber, avocado, crab, row, spicy mayo, unagi sauce and chips on top, 4 pieces assorted sushi and 6 pieces of spicy salmon. The sushi and maki pieces were large but not really impressive, taste wise. The concept of chips in a roll is interesting but didn't add much flavour aside from crunch. Service was quick. The eatery was relatively empty when I went, with one table of three people dining in.

Medium Maki + Sushi + Sashimi Platter & Tunapeno Roll

Ordered the Medium Maki + Sushi + Sashimi Platter (32pc) & Tunapeno Roll (8pc) and thoroughly enjoyed everything. The fish is extremely fresh and the filler + toppings on the rolls are very generous proportionate to the rice. The Aburi Salmon Roll is delicious! The spicy salmon is stuffed with a lot of salmon. The sashimi pieces were nice and thick. The service was very friendly and prompt. Our waiter was attentive in topping up our teas, but not being overbearing / interfering in our conversation. The restaurant itself is very clean, well-decorated, and inviting. There are 3 tables that seat 4, and plenty of bar seating available. Definitely one of the better sushi spots in the GTA - especially Sauga.

Kaze is a sister chain of Kamen Ramen. It's around 3-5 minute drive from Square One mall, a 2-3 min walk from Kamen, and it's located behind Kamen. We found Kaze through a free roll offer being advertised at Kamen. Since Kamen's wait list was long, we decided to try Kaze, and we didn't regret it. Kaze's atmosphere is warm and welcoming. It's a dine-in restaurant with high chair seating. They asked us to wait and sit for the free roll, and offered us water. The server welcomed us with a smile and attended to us very quickly, ensured that we had what we needed. We ended up ordering trays and a couple of rolls, in which they offered miso soups on the house to warm us up. There's also complimentary tea they offered to all the guests, which was a plus since it was pretty cold outside. They ensured that we understood all the ingredients in the dishes. For the Kamen Ramen offer, you are offered one of three (iirc) basic rolls like Spicy Salmon Roll, California Roll, etc. We picked the Spicy Salmon because I seem to like that one best anyway. It was so delicious that we ended up ordering another roll. The rest of the rolls and trays were also delicious, nicely garnished with green onions and these decorative little white balls. The portions were standard but the taste was great and the designs and style were innovative. We also went with the chef's choice rolls which were also interesting. A fun little info: if you also want to have ramen as well as sushi, you're able to order anything from the Kamen menu to be brought to Kaze. That's something we would've liked to know before ordering anything because we would absolutely love to have ramen with our sushi! So if they're running out of space at Kamen, Kaze would be a good alternative spot. It's so close to our home so we might make this our go to spot and will be coming back for sure!

Very small space. My family and I dined in recently and there was only one large table (already taken), so we squeezed into a smaller one. The staff there was very accommodating and made it work. The sushi was very fresh and tasty. We ordered 2 platters, a few rolls and an udon.

I've been a mainstay customer of this eatery for the past year. Service is quick and servers are very welcoming--a clean space for lunch or dinner with a small group. The place is hidden behind Captain's Boil so driving around is common when locating the restaurant. Tuna Maki rolls are my favourite - Simple clean tuna flavour with a decent price point. Tempura Udon is a nice meal with a generous portion of crispy shrimp and vegetable tempura. The rolls are massive with a lot of variations of flavours and texture. Check out their Lunch Menu special as well.

If you love Sushi this is the place for you!! I have been here maybe 5 times now and I'm never disappointed, the quality of the sushi is fresh and everything is flavoured deliciously. Service is great, they greet you upon entry and are very attentive during the dinning in experience! The location is a little small and can get full during dinner as they have 4 tables and 2 long bars. The restaurant is beautiful, there is a lovely mural on the wall and overall it's very clean! I also think it's very well priced for the portion sizes and freshness :) I will be back!

tiger roll and squid super fresh

New, hidden sushi place that's BEHIND Kamen. Saw this place on my way home after picking up some Vietnamese for lunch and decided to check it out! Address says that it's on Burnhamthorpe, BUT entrance is off Mavis. Restaurant is in an industrial plaza, and although it faces Burnhamthorpe, you cannot see it if you drive by. Full menu is online, so it's easy for ordering. Prices are in-line with my preferred sushi place which is a bit further for me. So it's great to have another sushi place that's closer! What Kaze has over my reg sushi spot is that there's more variety in the fish that they use for nigiri...although I tend not to order nigiri as much. Everything was good, fresh, and packaged well. I still prefer the spicy salmon from my usual spot. Would definitely recommend! One of the better sushi options in the area.

On this recent visit, the space felt more modern and brighter overall. The layout is still basically the same though - the centre tables feel more open, while the side tables along the walls feel a bit more tucked away. The family I was with still comes here pretty regularly, so they knew what to order. Overall, the sushi and other dishes were solid for what they are. One thing to note is that the rolls are on the larger side with a lot of sauces and seasoning, so it leans more "Canadianized" than traditional sushi - which is great as long as that's what you're expecting to get. Service was friendly and quick too, so I'd definitely consider coming back again when I'm in the area.

I decided to order the sashimi combo (no rice) with: 6 pieces of salmon sashimi 5 pieces of Nigerian sushi 5 pieces of dynamite roll 2 pieces of Shrimp and 3 pieces of vegetable tempura This set comes with miso soup, garden salad and rice. When i read "no rice", I literally thought the made the sushi and roll with no rice. But there were rice. I don't understand why the name of this set is sashimi combo with no rice when there were so much rice involved. The fish used were nothing unique. For the price, I thought perhaps there would be a special piece to taste. There are many Japanese restaurants that i want to try, but Tomo needs that something special for me to want to go back again.

Big mistake. On Nov 25, 2025, I ordered the MC5 Maki Combo (24 pcs) -- California roll, dynamite roll, spicy salmon roll. What arrived was a disaster: tired-looking sushi, off flavors, and a wasabi that came out as a strange dark green slime. I forced down a few pieces; my wife couldn't eat hers at all. To make matters worse, I was burping an odd flavor for hours afterward. This wasn't just disappointing -- it was unacceptable. After years of giving this place chances, I'm done. Sushi should never feel like a gamble, and I won't be rolling the dice here again.

The caterpillar role is pretty fat and so each piece is a mouthful. The maki are smaller, nicely rolled, and well balanced. It's a very nice assortment. They use a good amount of topiko in the sushi, compares to some places that skimp or skip it all together. We ordered by phone and pick up was ready in under 30min. As per covid restrictions, only 1 person is allowed inside at a time. The entrance opens to a pick up window. Not much else going on inside. Very happy with the delicious meal!
