Falafel
Angela M.

We stopped in for a few quick bits after arriving on a late train and before heading to pub quiz. The hostess seated us promptly, only to have the server ask us to move since we were just 3 and had been seated at an area meant to incorporate a larger group. No problem, but tell that to your hostess, not your customers, especially since it's not like we asked for the larger space. We ate primarily from the specials off the chalkboard: Rocket salad with manchego Falafel Bocadillo con jamon iberico Tapenade The rocket salad was a winner, but then again, anything with rocket and manchego is going to be a winner for me. The falafel was on the dry side and pretty flavorless, and definitely not the crispy-outside-fluffy-inside that marks a great falafel in my mind. The bocadillo was mostly bread, though the meat inside was decently savory and fatty to provide some flavor. The tapenade was deliciously briny and a good portion. We probably would've eaten more, but we were already late, and didn't feel particularly welcome with the drama between the hostess and the server.

Holy crap this is the place to eat in Oxford. Wicked delicious tapas. Lamb, chorizo, cheese, breads....amazing. The price was phenomenal too. If you are ever in Oxford you REALLY want to check out this Moroccan inspired tapas bar. The wait may be long and the service may be slow, but it is well worth given the quality of the meal. I will be seeing this place again soon.

Wonderful place to grab a drink with friends and unwind after work or to take a special someone for an intimate meal. My friends and I sat in the booth by the bar, where it was a bit livelier, and had a lovey time trying all the different tapas! Pro tip: pair your tapas with the Moroccan Iced Tea - they're dangerously delicious!!!

Babaganoush, couscous, fish/chorizo, and lamb tapas.

Kazbar isn't my first choice of Cowley restaurants, but went along for the first time with a friend. Walk in and you're greeted by enthusiastic staff at the bar. This is a Morrocan/Spanish restaurant, so tapas or small plates are the bulk of the menu. The quality was excellent and we received our four dishes quickly. I recommend the lamb or fish dishes. With that said, get ready to holler at your table mate because this is a bar and it is LOUD. A little quieter in the rear of the restaurant. The waitresses we had seem overworked and irritable.

Excellent tapas especially Carne Picada - spicy lamb with houmous and pine nuts ;) You can relax almost laying on cushions and looking at amazing decorations to move yourself to Spain. Great customer service. Lucy was very competent advicing about wine. 3 course meal with bottle of wine and tip was around £60. Another time I went there for tea £2.5. Even simple mint tea is served like a king's drink. I love this place!

A great tour of the Oxford Castle & Prison…read more The tour was a fantastic experience. Packed with history, storytelling with a fun tour guide that all ages could appreciate. Well worth the time and money. The demonstration of a real pillory was icing on the cake.

The moderate climb to the tower is worthwhile as you get a nice panoramic view of the city. As the tour transitions to the use of the castle in more recent times as a prison, there is an interesting display concerning that era highlighting criminal justice practices over the past couple of centuries. The "mug shots" of prisoners held there were fascinating and often poignant. This was particularly true for those stories of the children incarcerated for things like petty theft, acts they committed just to survive. The instruments of "correction" such as stocks were also described in detail. Notorious prisoners held at the castle prison were highlighted and their tales were intriguing. The stories of Mary Blandy and the Black Panther were especially memorable. Our guide did a fabulous job of informing us about the history and significance of the structure in a very engaging manner. The Castle Mound at the front of the grounds is also worth climbing as the views are terrific. This is definitely worth the time and price of admission if you are in Oxford.

I went in on a Saturday lunchtime and found the service very efficient without feeling rushed. It was surprisingly quiet, so we forgot about the world around and were able to concentrate on the delicious food. The dishes are in the range of about £3.50 - £5.50 each and they're usually split into 2-3 bits, so can be shared if necessary. I recommend getting bread as well - it's great for soaking up sauces and is nice, soft ciabatta style with tomato sauce to dip it in. Particularly recommended: - deep-fried chicken soaked in garlic - not at all greasy and very tasty - potato with layers of goats cheese, ham and tomato - prawns with scrambled egg and asparagus (much, much taster than it sounds!) The sangria comes with a good amount of fruit in it and at £3 a glass is cheap and plenty enough to last a meal (if you can resist another one, anyway!). All in all a really nice place if you're into tapas and a great introduction if you've never tried it.

My favourites are the selection of cheese, the garlic prawns and the little ham croquettes. Try a jug of sangria with it - it's very well done here and compliments the food greatly. This is a lovely place, decorated in a way inkeeping with the food and very private. The tables are well spaced, so you don't feel cramped or overheard. I like this place for dates or for a meal with a good mate. Always busy, so best to book it unless you've got time to have a drink at the bar first (which is no bad thing here). Go for a great, relaxed meal on one of Oxford's loveliest streets.
