I bought a Travelzoo voucher for historic tour for 2, and it was a little hard to book since I'd call leave a message and then they'd call me, leave a message... if you have a voucher you can't book online and they don't have email. I will say something came up the day before my first selected date and they let me reschedule without penalty. But then it took a few more calls to rebook. Parking was a little confusing; parkmobile said you had to pay so we did ($8/day); didn't know if Kayak Annapolis customers had to or not. Aside from the parking and booking difficulty, we loved the tour. Just the right amount of history, paddling, and resting. We were lucky the day wasn't booked up so there were 4 of us total, and it was sunny and a little breezy too. They had dry sacs to put your belongings and tie to the kayak and water shoes if you forgot to bring shoes to get wet in. Megan did a great job, rehearsed corny jokes but kept it entertaining. They offered us juice, water and granola bars when we took a break across from the Naval Academy. I liked that we were able to go into the middle of downtown Annapolis. This is a true small local business, 100% just floating in the water, which is cool. Would recommend if you're in the area! The regular price isn't a bad deal either; or they rent kayaks hourly. read more

This is a pretty enjoyable way to get a little history lesson about Annapolis, and see it from the water. Note: If you are looking for a workout, or to learn about kayaking, this is probably not the tour for you. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy myself, but this is much more about seeing/learning about Annapolis than it is kayaking. Our guide Dustin was really cool and did his best to make it interesting. They have a nice break at the halfway mark where you can get out of your kayak and have a snack provided by Kayak Annapolis. A few suggestions: The guided tour part is too long. It's a pretty smell stretch of water you are touring, so it's a lot of just sitting there. Cut the group loose after 1hr for paddling around. Price point a little too high. You can rent kayaks by the hour for 10-12 bucks. At $60ish per person, I know we are paying for the guided tour but that is a little too pricey. I think a fair price point is around 40 bucks. That's about it, it was a good time. Would recommend if you want to get on the water for a bit and learn about Annapolis. read more

You never know what you are going to get with a tour. When you sign on with owners & husband and wife, Pete and Kate, you get a fantastic tour of Annapolis via kayak. Pete is the historical guide and mouth piece of the duo. He shared information easily on Annapolis' history, boat building industry, US Naval Academy and more. Did you know that Annapolis is the sailing capital of the world? He gauged our group's interest and even told funny jokes. Kate is the facilitator and ensured the group was safe on the water. On the tour, you start from Truxtun Park paddling through Spa Creek to a point across from the US Naval Academy. We then made our way to downtown Annapolis and then returned back to our starting point. The tour is good for all ability levels, beginner to more experienced, and the pace is casual. They are laid back and very fun to be around. In addition, the sea kayaks, personal flotation devices and paddles are clean and well cared for. Always a plus! I loved loved this! My sister and I had a LivingSocial (or Groupon, can't remember, some discount which was awesome) for this company during the end of the summer. We showed up about ten minutes prior to them starting to fill out paperwork and all that jazz. The instructor was hilariously... corny, but hilarious. Alongside joined us about 10 other pairs and then we sailed off. The kayak itself was a very easy one, pretty hard to topple over. We went on a ride for a few miles and back around. It was so much fun and so relaxing! I saw the other reviews and don't know why more people aren't reviewing more and also giving them better reviews; I had a blast! They gave us some water and drinks along with an oatmeal bar and snacks halfway thought. They even gave us a small little educational lesson as we rode along. Got a living social deal as a gift and booked for a Monday in august before it expires at the end of the month. It's only says in ONE spot on the website that you have to be there 15 min before you check in. Of course I didn't catch that little tid bit at the bottom of the website because I had found where to book it using my voucher immediately so I clicked there first. Going along and booking the tour it ONLY SAYS the time that your tour is NOTHING about being there 15 min earlier. We get there when it starts and the man working that day tells us we will have to reschedule and for "insurance purposes" has to give all instruction and we were supposed to be there earlier. While we were walking down to the water though there was a boy who had run up to his car to get something. So according to the instructor for insurance purposes everyone needs to be there to hear instruction so since we weren't we were very rudely turned away but this boy who ran up to his car didn't hear everything either but of course he still got to go. I don't even want to use my voucher or set foot in this place ever again. Don't know if I could even use it because every weekend is booked. Ridiculous and rude the gentlemen was working there today. Katie and Pete are some of the best Annapolis tour guides around! I have lived in Annapolis for about 5 years and I learned so much about my own hood on this tour. So to my surprise, everyone gets out fitted into a double kayak. For those of you that are control freaks when it comes to water craft (like me), this may not be ideal..especially if you have an incompetent kayak partner. Luckily I had someone that was pretty good paddler for the first time. So having a good paddling buddy will make a difference. The tour goes from the Truxton Boat launch to the City Dock in Annapolis. While this is not a very long ways away there are alot of history lessons along the way. If you are lazy and don't want to paddle, you can get the same tour on the Spa Creek Tour on the Miss Anne from the City Dock. But you will not get a chance to beach and stop for some wine and cheese. If you have friends visiting from out of town, this is a great way to spend an afternoon on the water. read more

Had a great time on the 2-hour tour of Spa Creek/Ego Alley waterways. There ended up being a lot of people in our tour so we got two tour guides. They were very knowledgeable about the history of Annapolis, and made the tour relaxing, informative, and fun. There was a quick intro/refresher to how to kayak and some safety tips. Quick and to the point. We docked on a tiny beach in Eastport for a mid-tour break. The company provided water, juice, and granola bars. We did not have an issue scheduling the tour (but then again our schedule was more flexible and I like to plan ahead), even though we were using a Travelzoo voucher. We actually cancelled our schedule tour a day ahead due to weather and was able to get a last minute tour the day of. Not sure why everyone is giving the company such bad reviews on account of scheduling the tours. read more

I also couldn't find any information anywhere on the website that mentioned a dog policy. If it's going to be advertised, it should be explained for the customer. All the 5 star reviews below are spot-on. This was our second time in Annapolis and wish we'd done this tour 2 years ago. Pete and Kate are very friendly and know an absurd amount of facts about the city and its history. Most of the kayaks are set up in 2 people 'mode' but I'm sure that's easily modified if it's a smaller group. We had about 15 or so in our group but you could hear Pete without an issue. Nice snack/water stop about halfway through and you get to go down Ego Alley which was awesome; some amazing yachts only feet from you. Do this tour; you won't regret it! read more

What a fun way to explore Spa Creek/Ego Alley area of Annapolis! After living in Annapolis for a few years, i tend to forget about all of the "tourist" things to do. I think the last time i kayaked i was at summer camp, so I was a little uneasy at first, but by the end of the tour I felt like a well seasoned sailor. Captain Kate and Pirate Pete were excellent tour guides. Along with everyone in Annapolis, were eager to get back on the water after a long winters hibernation. As an added perk with the kayaking tour, our guides were filled with all sorts of knowledge about all things Annapolis ( hello trivia points!). I bought a LivingSocial deal and was really excited to use it, but it looks like I've missed the boat. It's only the beginning of June, but they're booked for their LivingSocial timeslot (10 a.m.) for the rest of the summer on weekends (the deal expires at the end of August). I didn't realize I had to make a reservation right after buying the deal to be able to use it at a reasonable time. The guy on the phone told me to take a day off to do it. Not all of us are lucky enough to be able to do that easily. He seems rather out of touch. When I broached the idea of extending the deal past August, he said, "Well, it's subject to availability." I bought 5 kayak tours from the deal site for my friends and me. I did read the fine print and knew I need to book ahead of time for weekend schedules. But I didn't realize booking more than 3 months ahead of time is still not early enough. When I called in to schedule, I was told weekend schedules are all out. She suggested to take a day off to do it. But having 5 working individual to take off on a weekday won't work. They still have lots of other weekend schedule that's not for 10AM, but they refuse to let us use it for those time slots but suggested we can pay pull price to do it. My friends think $65 for 2 hour tour is too expensive. We are also not allowed to cancel the deal. We are stuck. I have never had such an unpleasant experience dealing with such bad scheduling and company not willing to compromise in any way. I am always careful and book ahead, but this one really got me. This has been the worse organizing experience I ever had to deal with. read more

I bought two livingsocial vouchers for my parents to use. The deal's fine print explicitly states that the voucher is valid on weekends. However, my mother just called Kayak Annapolis and they will not allow her to book. They told her it isn't valid on weekends. They refuse to compromise and honor the deal. This is a disreputable business. I am very displeased and will never use their services again. UPDATE: I talked to livingsocial and the problem isn't that the voucher is invalid on weekends, it's that all the weekends on which it is valid are booked (as indicated by two reviews previous to this one). I emailed Kayak Annapolis to complain. They refuse to compromise AT ALL. Most companies will allow you to book an appointment that takes place after the expiration date, as long as you actually call to book prior to the expiration date. Not these guys. They made it very clear that anyone who purchases a 50% off deal is a second-class customer who doesn't deserve the same level of service as full-paying customers. "The reason why we don't allow a different time is because we need to leave those tours open for full paying customers, so we can stay in business. We love giving deals out but there has to be some limitations (subject to availability) to that deal to make it 50% off. People get angry when they buy a 50% off voucher then can't use exactly when they want, because it is a first come first serve deal and they have to come when there is availability." I understand that they are a small business and they need to make smart financial decisions, so if all their appointments get booked up by 50%-off customers, that's not good for business...But that just means they can't afford to offer as many 50% off deals as they do. It is a poor business model to have it built in that they can't offer full service to all customers. In the end, 20 minutes of complaining on the phone to livingsocial got me a refund. For anyone thinking of buying a living social voucher to book a kayak trip, either be prepared to book several months in advance, or do NOT buy. They won't be able to provide you with any service (if you work Monday to Friday). For anyone who wants to pay full price, well, the other reviews indicate that you will be very happy with your experience. read more

Yes! Went here on a living social deal and it was a wonderful experience. It was my first time kayaking, but my boyfriend has kayaked a lot in Alaska. This was a great place for a beginner to start yet still enjoyable for an expert kayaker for just a kind of chill day. It is pretty quiet around the area, the staff is friendly in getting you set up, and very cool homes around the area to see. We spent 2 hours there and at the end I was not ready to leave! This was my first kayaking trip. The staff are very friendly and make you feel very comfortable. Kayaking was very fun and easy! They provide water shoes if you forgot to shoes that you mind getting wet. They also provided water safe sealable bags for phones or other personal items. We didn't use these but it's an option. The area is very beautiful to kayak in, and there are lots of boats. You can head towards downtown Annapolis and kayak there as well. After kayaking there's a bunch of nice restaurants in the area. It was a great kayaking tour, a little harder than I am used to but a great time. There were a few reasons it was harder, I was the only one who had a single kayak because my Mom who was supposed to go with me hurt her shoulder and wasn't able to come. So I was never able to take a brake were others could and the other person would continue rowing. I am also used to kayaking on lakes and ponds and out in the open water with boats and wind and avoiding other kayaks and paddle boarders made it that much more difficult. Let me just say my arms got a great workout. Our tour guide was great and gave us some good information about the area. The only reason I didn't give them 5 starts was because, I got a Groupon and I was a little disappointed that I had to pay tax when I got there, I have never had to do that with Groupon before. I think it is better if they just charge a little more up front rather than charging you more when you get there. read more

The water and weather were perfect and it was so nice to get outside. We arrived early (which is a MUST). Don't be late or you'll get called out in front of everyone else. This was waaaay to expensive! We got a deal off CertifiKid and LivingSocial to at least save a buck. The guides were too talkative. I understand their enthusiasm, but we wanted to enjoy the weather. Honestly, I didn't listen to him most of the time. We only went up and down the docks and looked at some big boats and houses that went by. We were passing by all these neat little marsh trails and off the beaten passages that we wanted to see, but we had to stay with the group. A boat accidently cut us off and the guide ripped his head off!! Woah there! I thought this was supposed to be relaxing. The guide also took us to the most awkward turn around spot where we were basically on display for all the tourists to see.
