Being the southern American girls that we are, we each wanted our own flight. The server told us that one carousel would be enough for whole table, so we decided to listen to his suggestion. For dinner I chose the shrimp and dill flatbread which was delicious and large enough in size that I had leftovers. The 12 wine carousel was indeed large enough for our table and we each found our favorites. One star down for the wait time. While it is customary to have a nice sit down meal in Europe, I did notice other locals seem to have to flag down the waiter several times.

A wine sampler is a must here as they have a wide range of Riesling and Rose wines. The setting is rather pleasant in a small square with pretty buildings. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well.

Delicious and wholesome!…read more I ordered my choices based on a previous Yelper's recommendations: the house apertif (white wine with peach liqueur) and schnitzel. Both were delicious, the schnitzel was served with a salad, and I was stuffed by the end of the meal. This place is famous for being old, and we loved the history behind it!

The food at Alte Haus was better. Menu available in English. FOOD: 4.5 out of 5.0. (names of foods are taken from the receipt) - Tapelspitz rosti: 4.5. Tender roast beef with a nice sauce. - Schweineschnitzel Wiener Art: 4.5. breaded mashed-thin pork. Beautiful aroma with herbs; served with lemon, salad, and fries. - Dessert - chocolate souffle with whipped cream and ice cream: 5.0. Excellent. DRINKS: 5.0 - House apertif: 5.0. This was really special. Cool Riesling wine with a touch of peach liqueur. - Wine: 4.5. I had a semi-dry; she had a sweet - we both enjoyed it. SERVICE: 4.5. She was very attentive and personable with a warm smile. We enjoyed paging through the photo book of Altes Haus and the village, including a 1950 photo of the owner (who prepared our meal) as a young girl. AMBIANCE: 5.0. Indoor and outdoor seating. Inside has dark wood decor with interesting older (mostly b&w) photos and other items on the walls.

The goulash was salty, simple, and good. The beef roll reminded me of braciola. A little tougher than I expected but not tough per se. The red cabbage was sweet and good. The bread dumplings were fine, but something was missing - maybe a vinegar or squeeze of lemon? The salad was also solid, kind of a quick-kimchi of veg and kraut. Everything was sound here, but nothing took it to the next level. 3.4ish rounded up to 3.5 and you know the rest.
