Has about 5 miles of trails and recently they have added on off leash area for dogs, with plenty of room to run and play. The park itself is not as big as other forest preserves, but still big enough to be secluded and peaceful. The winding trails take you through heavily wooded areas and prarie areas... I come hear a lot to explore with my dog and go on walks with my fiance. Its nice!

Our pups enjoyed their visit very much and although the small body of water didn't look the cleanest, we still let them cool off and enjoy a swim. The picnic tables in a shaded area were appreciated on a hot day. Bring lot's of drinking water for you and your pet! Also, as with most dog parks, remember that any toys you bring for fetching are likely going to be "fair game" to the many other dogs you might see here.

We made the mistake of going right when we left the parking area... Left was a better choice. But the area that is not part of the unleashed dog area is still beautiful. We walked out over the river on the newly constructed bridge and just took in the views. Then walking back we found another path back into the unleashed area which brought us to the river, which my dogs were all about, sprinting directly into the water before we could even catch up, it was a warm day. Overall I love this park, and it is well worth the trip for a nice walk. Highly recommend that anyone with a dog who loves to run, get wet, play with other dogs or just walk with you try this place!

We live in Streamwood, and it's worth the drive to take my dog here. The red gate road construction DID cut it in half, but didn't reduce the size of the park. They created a path for people on bicycles and joggers, that starts from the dog park parking lot, and goes across to the other side of red gate road, where the trails are flat. When you walk past a certain point, a sign warns to have your dog on a leash so as not to disturb bicyclist and joggers. Great for training your dog, because of the distractions, but no access to the river on this side. The parking lot side has trails, some that go down to the Fox River on steep downward inclines. If you want your dog to swim, stay on the parking lot side. Never been here before? Want to go to the river? Start out on the bike trail, but turn left at the fork. March yourself and your dog down the wide trail to the fox river, where there are several different places where you can throw a toy in the water for your dog to retrieve. But be forewarned: in the summer months there is a lot of boat traffic on the river on weekends, which can bother a dog that is retrieving in the water. Your legs will get a workout because there's now way to get back up to the parking lot without walking up some trails with good upward inclines. Expect many passersby, as people with dogs jog by, or people with dogs stop and let your dog make a new friend or two. My dog loves running and swimming here, and even if he doesn't swim, we enjoy the lengthy trails on both sides. Highly recommended! The bonus is - we've never come home with a tick on either one of us so far!

Schweitzer Woods Forest Preserve and Dog park has been a savior these past 9 months!…read more I've taken my dog to this park many times over this past year and he truly enjoys to socialize with all of the dogs and owners. Perks are large enclosed wooded area, free entry, sunrise to sunset access. Most of the owners are responsible and friendly, but we have run into some owners who should take more responsibility over their wild pets. There are two enclosures: a larger area (where most of the bigger and socialized dogs play) and a smaller area for tiny or dogs that aren't ready for large group play). We haven't had any issues with ticks or fleas yet and my dog is treated. It's important to check your pets frequently after woods play. I do believe that the park cleans it but I'm not sure of the schedule of how frequently it happens. On numerous occasions I have spotted the same poop and throw up in the woods. I can't believe owners just leave their poop without cleaning up after their pets. Y'all have to do better. Overall, it's a great place to bring your pets for exercise and socialization. Lots of friendly people I've met here so far and it's great for all ages. You can walk the dogs around the park too. This is free so no one mandates the vaccines or pets but it works out fine for me. It's about $30 a year for residents. Those coming from outside the city can get a daily permit. A permit is good for all the dog parks in the city. In addition, dogs need to be vaccinated from rabies. Amenities are a good thing, and there's a few for the dogs. There's a few water fountains, and poop bags can be found. Great place for a dog and their companion. It's got plenty more than just a grassy area to poop in. There's also a few trails.
