I have mixed emotions about this Kane County forest preserve…read more On the one hand I love it because it's very "birdy" and for those who love to watch and count birds it is special. On the other hand I hate the bikes that go whizzing by and rattle the bridge just as I'm capturing a melodic or mournful bird song. There are some who politely slow down and call out "On your left" but some really seem to get a kick out of almost knocking someone over. If you walk over the two bridges and go down the path to the right along the opposite bank of the river you will be in Tekawitha Woods, a twofer! Bikes cannot go through there.

In early May the Forest Preserve was crowded on a weekday, people getting out during the Covid19 crisis I imagine. There's a nature center, miles of trails, a historic home museum and a one room schoolhouse. At the height of the coronavirus all of the buildings were closed, but these should definitely be worth a revisit.

I showed up to camp and found out the park has different rules than idnr or the reservation website and do not allow walk in for prime sites. All sites not registered online must sit empty. So my family was turned away, the site along with many other prime sites are going to sit empty all weekend. I even offered to pay double and I spoke to the deputy director of the park. Sad to see the park turning away money over a 72 hour online only policy

A wonderful and peaceful place to be if you want to get away from the bustle but not drive too far…read moreout of town. A must if you love great scenery and wide open spaces. Has about 5 miles of trails and recently they have added on off leash area for dogs, with plenty of room to run and play. The park itself is not as big as other forest preserves, but still big enough to be secluded and peaceful. The winding trails take you through heavily wooded areas and prarie areas... I come hear a lot to explore with my dog and go on walks with my fiance. Its nice!

You can never be too careful. Although this park is located in what many people would consider to be the "middle of nowhere", it's really not to those that live on the west side of STC. The park is a wide open space, and is visible from both Crane and Bolcum. In addition to the peaceful atmosphere of the park, there is a good amount of parking, playgrounds, and some ball fields. It's a great place to do an outdoor workout or meditate, as when I frequent the park I'm usually the only person there so I don't have to worry about looking like a jackass doing exercises. I mean, the people from the street don't get that good of a view so I'm not worried about being busted out. As always, please clean up after yourself! There's occasional garbage or dog waste which is naaasty!!
